The WT has made plucky attempts to explain the points made by Dawn. I am not going to stand up for their views and I nowadays see less reason to have to find literal explanations for all the verses of Genesis.

The 7000 years thing was the first point that I ever disputed in my younger days . There is nothing in Scripture to support it . Of course the Society backed off from it and then talked of "Several thousand years"

I believe that the impression given in the thread is misleading.

The quotes may be authentic but they do not tell the full story of how the "anointed" view themselves.Granted, the Witnessess view is that worship goes to Jehovah,which gives a different view of Jesus than some other churches do. The scripture at Revelation 19. 7 -8. describes the heavenly marriage of the "Lamb" and the anointed are considered to be the bride.

Exalted - yes , but definately subordinate. In all my time at meetings I never heard it implied that they were on a level with the Christ.

She said that if you attach a numeral value to the letters of his name and add them up, it comes to 666.

I started working it out and gave up after the first "S".

i called my mother yesterday and for some reason, the conversation drifted into dub-talk.

she was upset that some of my siblings were still at home, not concerned about looking for jobs or pursuing some kind of job training (the acceptable term for "going back to school", apparently).

none of these siblings are baptized, so pioneering is not even an issue.. anyway, i suggested that maybe they were discouraged because people around them (dubs, in particular) were harping on the idea that armageddon was "just around the corner" and that it seemed like a waste of time to pursue those activities.

Hi Scully, It is sad when ones family are so fixed in the faith , so blinkered, you want to shake them to see reality, still as Random Task said

We all know just how hard is to come to terms with that brutal truth, that we have spent the best years of our life pursueing goals that are no more than pipe dreams. And that no matter what we thought, we are going to get old ,just like everyone else has done. I believe it takes a certain courage to face that. It is easier to keep on believing the lie and making excuses to carry on believing .

But at least we saw the light.

This person is a comedian - no seriuos dub would make a joke out of such a tragedy as brutal murders, and he is joking us in poor taste, nor would he present his "Truth" in a pidgin English.

People are not that daft! ... Any householder would see through that , any way is your god a different one to ours? Some years ago I recall a WT saying something similar and I thought ,even then as an elder, that it was a devious thing to print .

This caused a BIG argument in our car coming home . Sister Bluesbrother is now convinced that my main objection has been swept away , namely that it is wrong to preach the fortold slaughter of people unless they "Come into the Truth".

Unfortunately I do not think this is a major swing in policy. Rather the fudging of the issue as we have seen alluded to before - although not so boldly.When it suits them they say moderated things as above , but come the next time they want to crack the whip then it will be back to "Get out in the ministry because they will die unless you can bring them in", or similar .

Still , we will wait and see. .

It is good to meet on the board with others who think the same as I do. It reassures me that I am not the only one!
