What did you do with your books?
by imnottheonlyone! ini am curious...what did you all do with your jw books and paraphanalia?
i carted mine around for years and kept them in boxes.
i was like afraid to do anything with them, even though i was sure i didn't want them.

I still have them and don't plan on getting rid of them. I have a personal library that any congregation would be proud to have. My books go all the way back to CTR. Recently my daughter-in-law (the one who has had me banned from her house) tried to get my wife to donate them to a congregation (that ought to tell you just how extensive that collection is), but I'd rather keep them for critical research.

Keeping the congregation clean?
by heatherg ini just had an interesting experience today.
i ran into an old ex-friend that had just been released from prison.
he was sentenced for selling pot to the highschool girls he coached for soccer and for sleeping with underage girls.

"The next flash of light that followed was, of course, that it wasn't MY house." Willyoman
Interesting thought. I had an elder who'd just lied to a C.O. and the Governing Body in order to screw me over (another story for another time when the time comes that I don't care if anybody recognizes who I am) tell me that it was HIS congregation and if I didn't like the way he ran it, then I needed to just walk right out the door and not come back! I knew what he was trying to do, to run me out of the org. (he'd tried to D'f me without success but succeeded in D'fing a family member). But I didn't leave because I was not going to be RUN out, I was going to leave on MY terms, not his.
Of course his choice of words really struck me. It was HIS congregation to do with what he wanted, NOT GOD'S! That was about 20 years ago and I've never forgotten. It was also his congrgation and not mine. And he made the rest of our time there a living hell. His attitude, in my experience, is sadly not unique! -

First. One year does not and never has a college education made.
Second. If it is equivalent to one year in college, then it is not a very rounded year (perhaps the equivalent of the major courses required at the two-year level?). From what I've been able to gleam from those I've known who've been and other material, it is mainly training in how to research material in the WTBS literature. It cover's the Bible in it's entirety from the WTBTS point of view, which makes it very narrowly focused. And, at various times, the course may touch on WTBS procedures etc. for the foreign field. -

The Old International assemblies
by pratt1 ini remember back in the lat 60's earlier 70's the international conventions.
i thought they were great and we always had dubs from around the world who would stay at our house for the assembly.. .
one of my best memories is about a group of young sisters from the mid wet who had never really known any black people who stayed at my house and stayed in our guest bedroom during the 7 day assembly .. .

The last two were in 1973 & 1978. I went to the one in New Orleans as well(1978). All the friends in our congo were booked in the same hotel. And the elders tried to control every aspect of what we did! However, I did have a great time in spite of them! A young friend and I were among the ones who climbed up to the very top row of the stadium between sessions just to see what it was like up in the nosebleed section.
I remember how the word was put around that any JW caught on Bourbon Street would face a Judicial Committee. I also remember thinking how hypocritical it was when I found out that the rooming department was putting people in hotels on the very same Bourbon Street! Oh well, those were the days! -

INCUBUS
by sistaintheback ini have been dealing with one for the past few years.
not constantly, but about once every three months.
for those that don't know, an incubus is a demonic presence that only bothers women when they sleep.

With all due respect to our friends who look to a material explanation for everything, there are such things as inncubus and succubus. Before my time in the borg, I was involved in what many call the occult and most of my family stayed invovled. So I can speak to the subject.
The good news is that an inncubus is much more than simple night paralysis, which can have a medical cause. To understand the inncubus, one must recall the Biblical story found at Gen. 6:1. The reason that many of the Angels foresook their position in the first place was to have sex with humans. Let's face it, you gals out there are supremely pretty and desirable! Since the flood, these Angels have apparently been denied the ability to take material form. And they are still very horny! So an inncubus is a fallen angel who is still obsessed with sex.
They seek their outlet through various means. Sex through bodies posessed, as in various cult mediums having orgies during trances. Or through molesting people directly in the case of the inncubus/succubus. Apparently in those cases the power is the important thing much as in the case of rape. So an Inncubus will do more than paralyze a person. The person may feel as if they are actually having sex, they'll feel the fondling etc... They may be physically harmed, as in being bitten or scratched.
If your attacks aren't like this, then the simpler explanation of night paralysis/terrors may be the direction to look and the advise of a medical professional sought. Remember Occam's Razor, unless there is good reason to conclude otherwise, first go with the simplest explanation. It will more likely be the one! -

congregational cliques
by chuckyy init was my experience during my 13 yrs as a jw that congregations usually had a social clique.
in other words, there would be a group of people in a congregation that would only associate (and sometimes only go out on field service too) with people within that social clique.
if you were in the clique, fine.

Yep, there were cliques in every congregation that I've ever been in! And there was usually one, clustered around the Elders' families, that was the "in" clique. I was usually on the "out."

What a looney.
by Peppermint ini used to install double-glazing, during this period i was an active witness and worked with a guy who had just come into the truth.
now i don?t know if builders are the same the world over, but the first thing we would do when we got to site was demand a cupa and ask where we could plug in our beatbox.
this would normally be met with a sigh and a resigned look from the householder.

For awhile, I worked with a Glazier just as you did and we didn't do any of that.

Would Jesus shun anyone?
by JH ini can't imagine jesus shunning anyone.
on the contrary, he went towards those who needed help the most.
if the jw's followed jesus footsteps, they wouldn't shun.

Just my ten-cents-worth.
Quite some time ago, I did some research into this whole disfellowshipping thing and found a few interesting tibids on it. Due to a medical problem I am having at the moment, I can't give references. however, here are the highlights of what I found out.
1. Expulsion was started in the post-Maccabean Jewish Community. After the Romans added Israel to its empire, they restricted the locals' rights to imp[ose certain punishments for certain things under the local laws. Hence the Jewish leaders developped expulsion and shunning as a way to maintain discipline in the community.
2. The expulsion was NOT done in the secretive manner used by Jehovah's Witnessess today. They were treated in much the same manner as Judicial cases were always handled in ancient Israel by an open, public hearing before the leaders themselves with due process being observed. This is what made Jesus' hearing so remarkable as an injustice because it was held in the middle of the night in secret much like a modern-day JW Judicial Committee meeting in violation of Jewish law and tradition.
3. Although it appears that the early Christian congregations adopted the expulsion and shunning of the Jewish model, it appears that they followed the model as practiced by the Jews. Their is no evidence that they used secret tribunals to administer the system. It also ap[pears that expulsion was only used on those individuals who were NOTORIOUS in their practice of what was wrong, the man mentioned by Paul in 1Cor. being an example of someone who was involved in a gross sin that was even condemned by larger Greco-Roman society around them.
So we can see that the model followed by the WTBTS is a twisted version of the biblical. Shunning should be a last resort, saved for PRACTICERS of gross sins, notorious in the community for their course. The hearing should be held before the whole congregation with the accused given full opportunity to defend him/herself, as befits a people who claim to follow God's love. -

A thought on Quotes and the copyright thing.
by Forscher ini downloaded and reviewed the contents of the zip file that was thoughtfully provided of the content of quotes' sight.
i am not a lawyer, however in college i did take a number of law courses, so i'll give you my take on the situation.
