by AK - Jeff inall your christmas packaging and so forth?
i mean most houses have a ton of trash out front this week due to all the wrappings, etc.
we are faders to some extent, though being shunned like we are df'd - i am sure we will make it less obvious at the curb than the neighbors.

Since it came from the CO, it might represent new official policy. If it is, then we may well hear more of it happening as time goes by.

intelligent design
by truth finder ini have done extensive thought about the intelligent design theory.
the bad comments coming from the evolutionists are flagrant.
as a student seeking graduate study in philosophy, i feel that the teleological argument & the cosmological (although this is not from my understanding this one has no relation to intelligent design) arguments should be mentioned when a teacher starts making statements about our possible origins, since there exists a few scientists who do not believe in evolution from nothing (the teleological arguement has a greater following).

Truth finder is just using a highly technical way to get to an end. I am not sure, but I think he arrives at the thought that neither position can really be proven.
The problem with the dialouge (for lack of a better word) between orthodox scientist and their ID bretheren is one of a philisophical view. Basically, the orthodox scientist defines science as the search for explanations concerning the universe from a purely materialistic point of view. That view takes as axiomatic that there cannot be a creator other than material causes. Thus, any theory which admits otherwise cannot, by virtue of its admission, be considered scientific.
The orthodox scientist is thus locked into a particular philisophical outlook, materialism, and fits all data and observations into that framework. ID attacks that system at its very foundation. If it can be shown that certain results could only come about through an intelligent intervention, then the whole carefully constructed system of science based on the assumption that there cannot be such an intervention comes crashing down. That is why the scientific community is pulling out all the stops to supress ID. ID is a dangerous heresy as far as they are concerned!
Dialouge between the orthodox and the ID is impossible because they cannot agree on axioms to frame their understanding with. The orthodox scientist must see all the evidence through his/her narrow outlook and force it to fit that mold. The ID proponent, on the other hand, is more open in his/her outlook and free to follow the evidence wherever it leads.
The orthodox claim that ID is nothing but Evangelical Creationism by a new name is nothing more than misimformation meant to cloud the debate with rank ad hominism. True, many Evangelicals and other Christians have embraced it, but that does not mean it is what the propagandists would have us think. ID is a philisophical way to view the evidence, nothing more. It imposes no religious orthodoxy on science. ID does not demand that we believe in a six 24 hr day creation of the universe about six thousand years ago. It still demands that any evidence for creation must conform to what is known (that creation, if it occured, must be much farther in our past since light from many objects are known to have travelled more than 6,000 years). The tactics that the materialists are using to suppress ID will backfire on them in the end since it reveals them to be no more open minded than the religious fanatics they so claim to abhor.
Truth finder has it right. It is a difference between two philosophies! Either of which requires a certain amount of faith. that is the thing to remember about the issue.

Why do churches still make me panic ?
by Aiesha Harley ini'm really glad i've found this site a week ago.
reading some of the stories and comments on here has really helped.
there are so many out there who's lives have been ruined by the so-called truth.. i was brought up in the truth as an elders daughter, youngest of 5, a brother and sister had been disfellowshiped, other brother had left as a teenager and my other sister is still sitting on the fence aged 40 going on 15, if she'd made a decision instead of sitting on the fence i'm convinced she wouldn't be the alcoholic mess she is today!

I'll second Dansk on this one.
Don't feel pressured on the next step. You've left a very pressured environment, there is no need to jump right into another! Take your time. Look your options over carefully before you commit anywhere. And by all means, avoid any other controling group like the JW's. Seek out that which helps you grow.

JW Shunning is it really Biblical?
by greendawn inthe watchtower society has this practice of expelling and then shunning members for a number of reasons, often trivial, causing to the expelled a great deal of problems in the family, socially and psychologically.
but is there any real basis in the bible for this practice?
does it empower them as they claim, to expel people or are they once more twisting the scriptures to suit themselves?
-
Forscher
Yes, it does seem that the practice of shunning that the Jews carried on was adopted by the early Christian congregations for certain cases. I reseached the subject years ago and came to the conclusion that there were some very important differences in the way it was done then, as opposed to the way the Witnesses and a few other groups do it now.
For instance, did everyone note the example from 1 Corinthians that was cited above? First off, the offender was openly practising a form of incest, something that would shock even people in our jaded culture today. It appears that his actions were well known, he was not some teenager who'd gotten a little out of control in the backseat of a car, or was only suspected of doing so (remember the injunction by the Society in the elders manual that in certain cases there can be a presumption of illicit activity and the elders need no proof that anything actually occured?). The case was so well known and notorious that Paul, at some distance from Corinth heard about it. And note that no secret committee met with the man, Paul ordered the action himself. Such open and aboveboard actions go right along with the ancient practice of a public trial at the city gates.
Note also that the punishment of shunning was only invoked by the Bible writers for really serious sins, such as open immorality or subverting fellow Christians and the like. Christians were not expected to follow some long and constantly changing list of rules for which one could be cast out if violated. Honest disagreements over teachings does not appear to merit shunning. The impression I gleaned from reading the verses involved was that teaching which subverted the congregation (i.e. the teachings of Nicholias and "that woman Jezebel" mentioned in Revelation) merited shunning.
The problem with the Dubs, Amish, etc. is that shunning is used as a tool to keep folks in line, not to protect them. Just like the Amish, a Dub can find him/herself shunned, in the extreme, at the whim of a powerful elder/bishop with no genuine recourse. There is absolutly no LOVE in the process. That is what makes shunning as those groups practice it unscriptural IMHO.
