It's funny, but we have a copy of my inlaw's cards. The power of attorney goes to my brother-in-law, who is not a dub. He left the organization back in the 70's when a CO pissed him off. He never DA'd, was not DF'd, but left long enough ago that he's pretty much left alone. I know he goes on apostate sites and forums and may well be on this one for all I know. But they trust that he will abide by their wishes if things go down to the wire. I believe he would.
While I was in the borg, I had both a son and a brother, not Dubs, who I knew could be counted on to do as I wished and had no problem assigning them the power in the event my wife couldn't. What's my point? I think one can find a non Dub relative who will abide by the rules one lays down, whether they like it or not. The need to give that power outside the family is over rated.

What's this about hospital liason can get access to your medical records?
by crankytoe inhello, i think i read something like this last week, but i thought it didn't concern me so i didn't pay much attention.
a close friend of mine is being pressured by one of the "friends" to let them be their hospital liason, - or whatever the term is that allows someone from the hall to speak for you if you're incapacitated and in need of surgery.
they were going to do it, until i told them i read "somewhere" that this liason can get access to their medical records/history.

Did you know of any JW elders or JW pioneers that were "racist"?
by booker-t ini know this might sound like a question from "la-la" land but as a black ex-jws most of the white jw's that i did have contact with were really nice.
i was talking to a hispanic ex-jws the other day and he was telling me of some of the racist experiences he had as a jw.
i did not contradict him but i never experienced racism from caucasian jw's.

I knew a young black brother, the son of an elder in a different city, who moved into a congregation I was in for awhile. He started dating a white sister. Boy did the doo doo hit the fan! They were watched and watched until they spent a few hours alone somewhere without a chapherone. They were both DF'd so fast it blew people's minds. She was reinstated within a few months. The last time I heard, he'd not been and there was an understanding that without intervention from higher up he wouldn't be.
There are many other stories I could tell, but if I did, and the wrong person added them up and figured out where they were from, I could be ID'd. We wouldn't want that now, would we?
That is not to say that all congregations are like that, I've heard of a few that are different. But I knew quite a few elders who were.

JWs an adventist offshoot?
by greendawn inisn't it correct to describe the jws as an adventist offshoot and therefore part of the wider protestant world?
they obviously have no connection to the apostolicc church despite their claims.
for example they got the 1914 date and the just once a year ritual of the bread and wine from the adventists so where do they really belong?

Although Russell denied in his writings any real debt to the Second Adventists, I believe it can be said that the JW's are an offshoot from the advent movement with a little evangelical influence thrown in curtesy of Rutherford, who was raised a Baptist. Certainly ley he owed much to George Storrs and Stetson, Second Adventists, despite his denial. Even the WTBTS acknowledged that debt to some extent in the "Proclaimers" book.

Yeah. I dropped the news a few days after it was announced to the Bethelites to a MS in another town. His mouth hit the ground! He so prides himself on being in the know since his fsther-in-law is real connected. Apparently the news hadn't reached them yet. What is so funny is that I know alot more about what is going on in the organization now than I ever knew while I was in. I reckon the net is a good leveler.

Thanks for the info and links. About the time the other thread was up, I think I was concentrating on other things and didn't get on the forum enough to catch it. I met Sinutko before the the 1975 thing. Since I've faded, I don't often get the magazines or I would've noticed the Bio in '04 Awake.
Cheers!

David2002 Please Reply on Point!
by AK - Jeff inon another thread david2002 said; regarding, 1975: i have asked brother who were in the truth prior to 1975 about whether or not they believed the end was coming.
the vast majority tell me "no.
" i even know one sister who told me that her mother thought it was coming, but the daughter advised her not to fall into that conclusion.

I well remember those days. The motto was "stay alive 'til 75". In fact, if you google "Sunutko", you will find a link to an MP# of him using that motto in a talk at an assembly. I was discouraged from going to college as well. Just in case our friend wants to doubt that many believed what they were told, all he needs to do is look at the statistics for the time. Right after 1975, growth went flat and many people left the organization. It wasn't until the fall of Communism, 20 years later that growth figures would get anywhere near the levels they peaked at in the early 70s.

How much do you pay for your internet service?
by JH ina few years ago, i had dial up internet with netrover, and cost about 18$ a month, unlimited use.
but it was slow.. then i had videotron here in quebec, low speed internet (cable) for about 29$ a month which was about 3 to 4 times faster than dial up.
now i upgraded it to high speed for about 45$ a month plus tax of course.

About $40 a month for my cable modem. Since my son is an online gamer I pretty much have to pay the money.

I like the one about going to college because of the downsizing at Bethel the best. But I'd say don't rock the boat just yet RR. The time for better things will come!

What was your first Apostasy?
by Dune ini'm re-reading 1984 and the similarities between the wtbs and the "party" astound me, but anyway, it made me think of the time when i started to get doubts (thoughtcrime).. i remember once at this book study a sister commented about the 1914 and was reciting it's historical accuracy.
anyway, she went on to mention that the demons were probably learning everything about biblical prophecies from the wtbs.
i was 13 at the time but the comment made me cringe, i was thinking "why would superior beings need humans to interpret the bible for them?

When I watched a pregant rape victim shunned. I just couldn't believe that real followers of Christ could do that. So I started having a closer look at the organization's teachings. There was plenty there I couldn't agree with.
