June 1974.
I was 18. Stopped going to the meetings, including the memorial, a few years ago. Waiting for the hammer to fall when the elders get tired of the musical phone game.

by Jourles inyesterday was my 15th year anniversary of being baptized.
may 11, 1991. i'm not sure it counts anymore since i was df'd last feb. 3, 2005, but still, it is a remarkable period of time to pass by and reflect on what changes have occurred.. i was 18 years old.
the "internet" was barely a blip.

The WTS and its truth that was lies.
by greendawn induring their brief 120 year history the wts changes every so often its religious beliefs and what was the truth yesterday today becomes a lie.
the cumulative effect of this is that the jws have always believed in lies.
instead of apologising to the r&f for misleading them they have the attitude: "wait on us and we will eventually get it right".

Just before Russell died he authorised an edition of the Studies in the Scriptures which were printed after his death. In the foreword to the second volume he did print an admition that he'd been wrong in some of his conclusions as to the significance of 1914. In it he candidly stated that he'd made some conclusions "not authorised by the scriptures". Although he did appear to be trying to minimize the extant of the errors he was somewhat frank and certainly didn't do as Rutherford and the rest who follwed have done through the years. So I give him credit for that.

Well, I supose thats one way to look at it. I imagine though that atheists can come up with another way to see it. One's world view tends to affect how one interprets the data.

By the way.
Did anybody online ever draw a parallel between certain elders and the psycorps on Babylon 5? The way they acted like god and went around entoning "the corps is mother, the corps is father" always me struck as having to have come from somebody would been a Dub. It was just too uncanny.

Loved it Doc Jekyll!
My son asked me to save it so he could send it to a couple of his online friends. It'll probably be around the net in no time!

LOL!!!
She DOES have a bit of a go-for-the-throat attitude. Lets just say that life is never dull around her! My son has it too. He rarely posts here, but you'll know him when he does because his avatar is a kitten drawing a bead on somebody with a sniper rifle. He is an online gamer who is well known for his use of sniper weapons and explosives. When he gets ticked, the gloves really go off and his evil laugh as he kicks butt is known in some online gaming areas.

Yep folks.
After much thought I finally chose an avatar. The ugly mug staring at you is that of Geronimo, the Apache warrior and renegade chief. There is a bit of a connection because my wife and son are both descendants of a member of Geronimo's tribe, the Chiricahua Apaches.

JW cult stunts psychological & moral development
by rebel8 inin reading the many jw apologist trollish posts on this forum, it keeps reminding me of the various theories of moral/psychological development & has made me realize how much the jw cult stunts such growth.
many different scientists have come up with stage theories of psychological/moral development.
starts at age 11 or 12

I kind of like Freud's stages for that one. The organization encourages the anal stage of developement as the ideal with its legalism. Many I knew were pretty much anal-retentive as a result.

Teens who pledge virginity have difficulty keeping it up
by zagor invirginity pledges, in which young people vow to abstain from sex until marriage, have little staying power among those who take them.
more than half the adolescents who make such signed, public promises give up on their pledges within a year, according to a harvard study.
the findings have raised the ire of concerned women for america, a conservative organisation that endorses adolescent sexual abstinence.

It just kind of hit me as I hit the post button that it would be very interesting to do a study to see if abstinence combined with encouragement to masturbate if the tension gets difficult to deal with would bring better results than just abstinence alone. I am not trying to get dirty minded here, just thinking along research lines. Any takers on that one?
