Let's see. Hmmmmm.
There are a lot of folks I wouldn't mind meeting in good time. Auldsoul is a possibility since he doesn't live all that far from me. Maybe he can give me a PM if he ever heads my way (hint, hint). I wouldn't mind meeting Barbara Anderson & her hubby, Leolaia, the ole Gumbmeister (just to see if he is that way for real), Richie Rich (anybody with big ones like his has got to be fun to meet), Dogpatch, Blondie, Narkissos, and so many others!
Well, maybe some day I'll get to meet a few of the folks. Until then i'll just sit here in front of my monitor and have fun!

Is this site monitored?
Look what happened to our good friend Ritchie Rich? He posted some scans from an Elder's manual he'd gotten his hands on and very promptly had a JC knocking on his door! So I'd say somebody's watching! All I can say is behold and weep!

Elder says no to congregation picnic: Brooklyn says no large gatherings
by truthseeker inour congregation has really gone down in recent months.
the friends don't talk to each other, there have been many disfellowshippings and jc's.. an elder i was talking to in the kh after the meeting says that "he and the other elders would like to have a congregation picnic but can't because bethel disapproves of large social gatherings.".
i looked at this elder and felt sorry for him - it was like hearing a child cry because mother wouldn't let him outside to play baseball.. the cong.

Is my memory working, but didn't the concern about "large gatherings" and people meeting informally in groups to pre-study their WT (or the Bible, etc) happen about the same time during the Great Apostasy in the 80's. The rank and file tried to get the WTS to commit to a number regarding what was "large" because some elders were being so restrictive that wedding receptions were being held to 100 people...that caused a lot of nasty feelings.
Your memory is just fine Blondie. They did their clamp-down during the "great Apostasy" to control the spread of ideas they didn't agree with. First, we were told at the time by our elders that we couldn't have folks from outside our own congregation at gatherings. Then any gathering not presided over by an elder became forbidden where I lived. Even wedding celebrations had to have an elder present who supervised who and what was allowed. Just like the new DFing policy for talking to DEF'd ones, that policy was pretty much kept because it was so useful for controlling what the rank-and-file does. As noted elswhere, it is all about control!

What did Paul mean?
by AK - Jeff inhe stated; .
"all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of god may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work.
" 2 timothy 3:16,17. at the time of his writing this, much of what the universal [catholic] church later included in the now accepted nt canon was not written.

Obviously Paul would've considered the Hebrew writings accepted as scripture at the time among the "scriptures he was talking about. As Nark mentioned his and other's reference to things found in literature not among our modern day canon means that we don't know exactly what he and others took to be "scripture". I am of the group who attributes to Matthew a fairly early writing and personally think he May have included it in his mind though I am sure that Nark and Leo, with their reliance on higher criticism would argue that one Ad Infinitum. But that is my personal opinion. All that can be said for sure is that we don't reaaly know for sure which of "scriptural" works out there in his time was accepted by him, and the churches who looked to him, as scripture.

But hey......it's their loss.
Never forget that Rosey and everybody!
By the way, welcome to both Rosey and PrimateDave. I've read Crisis of Conscience and it is a very good start. Ray Franz walked the corridors of power within the JW organization and was privy to much of went on while he was there. Unfortunately for the Governing body he made extensive notes on the GB meetings he attended and they forgot to take them away from him when they booted him out. Although they made him pretty useless to the ex-JW community in one way by spread claims that he'd been booted-out for trying to start his own personality cult (I suspect that is the main reason he does'nt lend his name to any particular ex-JW group, no matter how much he might like) their lack in that regard came back to bite them in the butt when he used those notes in writing his book. His book gives folks a glance into the inner workings of the Governing Body, something I doubt they ever wanted to come into the light.
The big strength of his book is in its tone. He comes across as simply setting the record straight as to how he came to be hounded out of the Witnesses. His method of simply telling the story lends his book far more authority than any other agenda would and makes it a pretty good read. The fact that he has refrained from any active anti-Witness activities or organizations also gives the book greater credence than if he were invovled in the kind of work that folks like our fellow poster Danny Hazard are doing. It isn't all that hard to get and I'd recommend highly that you start there instead of going first with an obviously polemic work like th majority of books out there.
I haven't read his second book yet and can't speak to it's merits or lack thereof. I plan on getting it sometime. I like the attitude you expressed Rosey, as I quoted above, keep that great attitude. That is the way it really is.

PETA Protest Backfires
by Stephanus inhttp://www.gjsentinel.com/news/content/news/stories/2006/05/18/5_18_1a_kfc_protest.html
a human inside an injured-chicken costume, hobbling in protest on the sidewalk wednesday in front of a kentucky fried chicken restaurant, didnt achieve the desired effect, according to many who dined there.. brad steig called wednesdays protest in grand junction by the people for the ethical treatment of animals good advertising for kfc.. the protest consisted of four adults and one child holding signs in front of the restaurant, handing out fliers and dvds and urging people to not eat at kfc until the restaurant buys chickens from humane vendors.. steig, a manager for halliburton, said he heard about the peta protest on the radio and decided right then to eat at kfc on wednesday, the day of the protest.. not only that, but he bought seven of the biggest buckets of chicken and all the side dishes and used four trips to load them into his halliburton pickup to treat his co-workers.
i don't know if there's an "ultimate" right-wingers' fantasy, but collecting 7 buckets of fried chicken in a halliburton pick-up in front of a peta protester must come pretty close.

I was uninvited to a funeral a few years ago. The man had been the PO of my congregation for many years and the only elder who treated me with anything approaching respect. I'd been real close to his family so knew they'd expecvt me to be there. I recieved word from the elder who was going to preside and at whose home the after-funeral dinner would be held that I was NOT welcome at either event.
I went anyway. I showed up at the funeral where I found out that the famil;y had been upset that I'd not been at the viewing (I'd not been imformed of the dates or time for that) Since I had a legitimate reasonm for missing the viewing (My car's lights had gone out so I couldn't drive after dark) I was invited by them to the dinner and told they'd understand if I had to leave a bit early to get home before dark.
So I went to that funeral and sat in a prominent placem,I went to that dinner and sat on the pissed-offed elder's fine furniture while eating his fine food and grinning at him all the while, and had a fine time with some old friends!
It was the best funeral I ever attended! I wouldn't recommend that little number for a wedding where the groom has uninvited one. I think your friend handled it just fine. The payback would be to send and univitation to said person when HE gets married. Sure, if he marries that Catholic girl his old frined wouldn't be there anyway. But its the thought that counts!!
