After Katrina, do you now have an emergency plan?
by LyinEyes ini know many people who live down south louisiana , were raised to be on guard for hurricanes.
i thought i heard on cnn that 80% did evacuate out.
i can imagine trying to get the most valuable things in a car , get my money out of the bank, gas the car up, put water and food in case traffic is jammed, clothes , medicine, pets, contacting family..all of that would be exasperating if some of it was not ready to go.. every year we have tornadoes, flooding, but the ice storms are what we are afraid up my way nw louisiana.

I`ve lived in Florida most of my life on the Atlantic coast! Always ready to move, quickly!! I have downsized things alot through the years. Most things (pets included) are ready to go when we get the orders to evacuate. But thanks to some posters here I`ve picked up a few other tips too!

'that boy is a hero': rescue of family is silver lining for city .
a 13-year-old boy in biloxi, miss., rescued his entire family -- 12 people, including his twin sister -- during katrina's rage.

*applauding*, thank you so much for posting this! I`m still crying, but for a better reason. I have a son this age and my heart went out to this brave young man. What a fine man he will become, he has been raised well.

People are animals
by joelbear in.
new orleans is becoming an interesting sociological study.
when the artificial comforts of the human world are gone, all you are left with is your animal instincts.. people are reacting based on their life experience combined with their genetic make up.. some docile, some in aggressive attack mode

........and it`s very hot, and humid!! No sleep, no water to drink, let alone take a shower with. Comforts or not it`s almost impossible to exist in the south without the creature comforts as ice, food, water, airconditioning!!! ( or at least fans!! ) Makes one quite irritable, and hostile. I could not picture having to sit on the roof of my dwelling in the hot sun for a whole day, or 2, or 3 before any hopes of being rescued.
