In reality, the appointment of anyone to ms or elder is a popularity vote, yes they may have made you jump through a hoop or two but in the end you get their vote and you are in. What about when a forceful elder has to battle the body and gets you through? Was that holy spirit? I think not, just someone who can argue.

Living proof: Elders are not spirit appointed
by IP_SEC inwitnesses say that elders are appointed by holy spirit.
the bible is the product of hs and when the body prays and uses the bibles qualifications for older men in the context of the perspective candidate hs is involved in his approval or disapproval.
then when the co passes the recommendation on the gb (or who ever actually makes the decision) these spirit appointed men are influenced by hs.. all well and good, the only problem is, it does not work.

Some of my last stuff as an elder, was in reality some of my best stuff. Prayers that actually meant something, and praying for people like the victims of the tsunami in asia and not just the JW's. I gave an instruction talk on Bible Cronology from the si book, well i got my material from Jonnson's Gentile Times revisited.
I eased right up on any form of pressure to the Book Study that I conducted. If they wanted to do RV's or have coffee, fine with me. My book studies went to 40 minutes MAX. If I got to take the WT, just kept it moving, not getting bogged down or saying much stuff myself. Same with Service Meeting parts, use some of my own questions and keep the part brief.
Asking and at times stating the obvious say related to how many hours it takes to baptize one person.
Basically in JW speak......I was slack!!!!! and proud of it. AND glad to be out of it.. -

I have found that in the excerpts that were relayed here on the forum, that there is more confirmation that at time the WTS misquotes it's sources. Hell, if it would plagerize pictures and swap them from single magazines to bound volumes, and change the passages in the Bible by adding "Jehovah" where it wasn't, then why not misquotes others too!
Proof for me, will be proof for others when they come to where we are!
Thanks heaps Barbara and Mr. Anderson -

The society has a "protocol" and it was in a KM, that the record cards have to be kept for 8 years. If you move, then 8 years of cards should follow you. Periodically, the Body of elders get all the cards out, inactive etc and go through them as directed by their CO or the society and are then supposed to follow up and visit the "inactive ones".
They also use personal judgements [bias] to determine reason why someone wouldn't be called on. i.e he threatened to shoot the next dub that sets foot on the place, or that they are a hard nut to crack or........
But the magic figure is 8 years.
Side point, before I packed in being an elder/secretary, I shredded heaps of these cards.........naughty but very satisfying, got rid of all but the current personal ones too!! -

Death Notices
by geevee ini am wondering if this happens in your area.
recently two dubs have died in our region.
they were older people and have been jw's for many years and supposedly they have had many years of dub service.

Thanks for the replies.
My point is that when people die, their friends, work collegues, club associates, relatives and so on all place an obituary notice in the paper. It says that they well well thought of, loved, respected or a myriad of other things.
Sometimes these notices are in the paper for days and there are columns of them.
Our local paper will not print an obituary notice until the family has placed theirs. But then once that is done, everyone else can the place one. I know that they can be expensive, but if you keep it short, then it isn't so bad. It does let the community know that they were cared about.
But I cant recall the WTS saying that JW's cant do it if they want. It is just that locally they hardly ever do. Are they just tight with their money? Did they care about the person at all?
My two cents worth. -

A woman!!!!!!!!
by Gill ini was speaking to my mother and was informed by her that in their congregation, in the leicester area, a woman does all the accounting and paperwork now.
this is a congregation with 6 elders and 7 mss.. is this normal, that a woman has to do the secretarial work?
what's the point of having a congregation secretary then?.

Hi, this sounds unusual in Dub speak. It doesn't say much for the abilities of any of the elders or ms's. There are occasions where a sister might do some of those duties, but only if there was a shortage of "man" power, or if there happened to be no one, not even a baptized male who couldn't do it.
Hope she covers her head!!!!! ;-))
