Welcome to the board Shawn! ......I am quite enjoying your dialogue..since I happen to agree. There is no difference in any of the religions that you mentioned and the JW's - I have always said that if the watchtower primed their followers for a year solid to meet at the KH at a specific date and time with an assurance of armaggedon, and then passed out the koolaid, then the Jim Jones tragedy would be like watching a cartoon before a horror movie. sammieswife.

Has the WTS ever sued a "brother" or any baptised Witness?
by Shawn10538 inhopefully someone has some information on this.
i think it is an important question because from recent observation on another jw website, it has come up that some jw bethelites are suing the wts in workers comp cases after getting injured while at bethel.
this is big news to me since i have a similar case outstanding right now.

?? The gospel accounts read entirely different regarding the resurection??
by Lady Liberty inlast night i recieved a call from my sister and she told me to compare the last chapters of each gospel regarding the resurection of jesus.
she said she was blown away to read that they all had drastic differences.
i haven't had the time to compare this yet, but have any of you discovered this?

I firmly believe the bible is inspired,
I guess it depends on one's own interpretation of 'inspired' as to whether or not the differences would bother you. sammieswife.

We all know that there are elders and/or spouses/children and friends of elders - has anyone approached them with this as a news story and how do they feel about a possible change in the society? If the JC becomes an issue, it would end the way of disfellowshipping....the paperwork trail may change..and how would they feel about the watchtower distancing themselves completely from the elders? Would they remain in service and in position if they knew that there was a possibility that they might be taken to court for some reason and with no direction or back up from the society? swife.

This got me wondering whether, irrespective of whether or not Watchtower decides to appeal the Court's Denial of Writ, the above ruling will be transmitted to the IRS and result in Watchtower's losing their charity status, as they are clearly engaging in the business of property insurance?
If not, can someone here pass this information on to them?
Plus the Society loans out money to the congregations at about 6% interest to build their halls....sounds like business to me! Hmmmm..let's figure the taxes - how much per magazine would it be and how far back might the IRS want to go? This might also affect their bottom line with the buying and selling of real estate and capital gains..if they are a charitable organization and exempt from taxes are they also eligible for reduced capital gains? I'm not sure of the US laws around this but if they were entitled under charitable organization to reduced, delayed or zero taxes on real estate and the IRS went back and tallied up what's owing, it could be enough to sink them. swife.

BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS Twisting a life-affirming law into death
by Terry inturning a life affirming rule into a death-dealing policy is an amazing accomplishment.
we can thank the watchtower society for a mindset which makes this possible.. i've gone into great detail before about the watchtower blood policy itself.
it is a blatant and deliberate publicity stunt which takes the rather simple prohibitions of the laws of noah for gentiles on murder .

see it from a medical journal. your hate may run through your veins for this subject but its quite simple,
Oh yes superhooper..forgot - welcome to the board...now, as for that statement - you don't know if I hate anything and/or if I do what any of those things may be. You don't know me. You came into the discussion insisting that taking blood was not good - so why should I have to look up the stats? Don't you have those handy? I asked questions based on your statements. I again reiterate - I believe it should be a matter of choice. Not direction from cult leaders who use twisted interpretation of scripture to enforce punishment on others if they refuse to follow that direction. Not direction from cult leaders who martyr their followers when they die from obedience. That's like Jim Jones living to tell the tale having just put to death 2,000 people and praising them for doing so - sickening. There are many opinions - yours in regard to blood is just that - an opinion. When my sister who happens to be a nurse, needed blood after the birth of her child, she recieved it - 20 years later she is still as healthy as ever and the kid is all grown up and living a productive life. Now, had she not taken that course and died by abstaining - well, she'd still be dead and her kids would have had no mother. So I suppose not everyone in the medical community believes as you do - but I go back to my statement - it should be a choice. sammieswife.

Superhooper....could you provide up statistics to prove your argument? Could you provide stats on how many people are saved by taking blood and for what circumstances? Could you give the same on how many died after taking it, the length of time that death took place and the odds for or against their recovering with or without? I believe it should be a matter of choice and not an order to abstain by a cult who martyr those who sacrifice themselves or their families on behalf of the leader(s) of that cult by refusing blood. swife.

the Judicial Committee was required to communicate information it obtained regarding potential cases of child molestation to the Watchtower Society Headquarters." This is the most damaging statement found in this motion. This alone shows that the WTS sat on this information rather than handing it to the proper authorities.
My feeling and my point exactly jourles....that one piece of information in a written directive from headquarters has sealed their fate and as their own lawyers stated, by allowing this suit to continue it changes the outcome for hundreds if not thousands of other suits in the works. Some may even be re-opened and this could bankrupt the society or force it to change a lot of things - including the way it does business. swife.

Excellent, excellent, excellent! Just read the whole thing and this might turn into a tidal wave. As was stated, the local congregation reports the persons name, the crime and a few other pertinent bits of information on to the GB. This means that the sociey can be pulled in and held accountable because they had knowledge of the crime and would have done nothing if in fact it is proved they gave no instruction or direction. If the BOE letters state that the congregation elders are to let the society know ie; report to them the persons crimes as such - that proves direction comes from the top down and where does it say to report the issue to anyone other than the watchtower? Pulling the JC apart from the clergy/confession is fantastic and has the ability to change everything. They report that the JC is actually like a counsel or confession more than investigative and punishment which given it's very name of judicial committee is ludicrous. In the case of Cano, I have to believe that the speed of which they disfellowshipped him, there was no counsel - it was a JC for punishment. I agree with posters before that the watchtower has tried to pull away from a legalistic relationship with the elders - this will have to be enforced and mandated now if it hurts the society. What elder in his right mind would stay if he is open to exposure for anything he might counsel - even if he truly believed in what he was doing? swife.

Could he be DF??
by Lilycurly inlets say a father has an adult child that wrote a da letter.
they are not living under the same roof anymore, so, working with the wt's teachings the father don't speak to the daed person.
but he still continues to see the child regularly, going to the movies, eating at restaurants and sitting besides each other at family barbecues and gatterings.

Page 103 of Elder book says a relative would not be DF just for associating with a relative as long as he does not talk about spiritual things.
Is there any way to have this direction copied here word for word? Thanks. swife.

Would YOU kill someone if you felt they really deserved to die?
by gaiagirl incould be anyone, osama bin laden, oj simpson, pat robertson, someone who personally hurt you or your family, anyone at all.
would you pull the trigger, throw the switch, etc, which would end someones life?
would it make a difference if no one would ever know, versus everyone knowing?

I believe that Ken Lay dying before he paid the price for what he did to his victims pretty much proves karma is a moot point.
This is only a thought and not anything more, but I was watching the news and as soon as it was announced that Ken Lay had died of a heart attack, my first thought was 'smart, sneaky man'. By dying first, he spends no time in prison (his sentencing was expected to draw 45 yrs to life), his insurance can be collected by his family (and rest assured it's in the millions), his estate can be left to his wife and children who cannot be sued for his crimes..and I say this is all interesting. My first thought was that he popped some pharmaceutical to induce a massive heart attack - this can be done I'm sure. By doing so, he has safeguarded his family, made sure they are financially set and avoided prison. His estate was apparently worth about 9 million so if the feds stepped in and took their share, there would be nothing left but life insurance not being part of that estate and valued at over 9 million would pass directly to the wife and kids. Couldn't be touched. So what if he took matters into his own hands? swife.
