by unclebruce inthis evening i went for a walk near the mouth of the bega river, several kilometres from my place.

Do you truly WANT the Watchtower to collapse? If so why?
by nicolaou inthere are the abuses of course, the diabloical 'two witness' rule applied to allegations of molestation, the reckless 'blood ban' in all it's tortuous complexities (which by watchtowers own admission has resulted in many fatalaties) and the cruel punishment of shunning which has caused so much suffering and pain to many of us here.. is it for these reasons that you want to see the watchtower fall or is it simply that you want to see them humiliated and broken for what they've done to you?
most of us aren't bitter or selfish enough to want personal revenge against the watchtower but i'd be lying if i said i didn't sometimes think like that.. the reason for my original question is that i sometimes feel a bit hypocritical.
i try to accord respect to jw's and individuals of all faiths, (yes, even when i go off on one of my atheistic diatriabes) but whereas i allow myself to be hostile to the watchtower i shrink from being so forthright against other 'christian' faiths whose corrosive nature may not be so easily apparent but is there nonetheless.. i guess my question is; why do we want the watchtower to fall but do not wish all religion to fall?.

Because that's what it basically boils down to, you letting them do what they want with your
On a very base level you are right, but we as humans don't exist on the most basic of levels. Our emotions, experiences, our environment, our ability and capabilities - they all have much to do with who we are and how we react in some way. Your statement oversimplifies the reasoning behind a persons inability and/or unwillingness to leave a cult and their willingness to follow that type of leadership. Children growing up in families where they never come first, may not even comprehend that they can have a life outside the organization because all they know is service to the watchtower. Fear and threat of dying. Fear of the world. Guilt. Desire for a better life - Witnesses are forced to repress so much that leads to normal, logical thinking. If the Watchtower were to fold tomorrow, I think anyone who needed that sort of guidance in their lives would find it elsewhere. I think people have every right to be angry and bitter about having sacrificed their lives to an organization based on lies, manipulation, disrespect and selfishness - I could only hope that it wouldn't take over their life to the point they were unable to enjoy the beauty of life on the outside. sammieswife.

You Say I've Inherited What???
by Terry ini get a phone call last friday telling me there was a note pinned to the door of my old house (deserted and up for sale) saying to contact this person asap because i am an heir to something or other.. eventually, i get around to it this morning; i make the call.. it seems xto energy corporation is looking for me because i'm an heir to my great grandmother's mineral rights to a 4 acre strip of land in burleson texas.
the land is wanted for drilling purposes by the oil and gas drilling exploration team.. i met with the agent this morning.
he showed me my great grandmother's obituary and his copy of the family tree.

Did you get the new tract?
by kid-A injust wanted to run an informal poll to see how "effective" or hopelessly "ineffective" the borg tract assimilation drive has been.. i for one, have not received the tract, and i live in densely populated development.

Just stepped out of my car in a deserted parking lot at an Elk preserve up in Oregon - not a soul around - and in pulls a car. The lady hands me a tract through her window and says 'we're handing out this free tract worldwide and here's your copy' and quickly proceeds to drive off. Haven't had one JW come by my door for years - haven't seen them in service for years - and then out in the middle of nowhere poof! one appears! ...sammieswife.

Sorry for your loss--((hugs)).
I was married to an alcoholic for a long time - I don't despise him and never will. In the end though, I had to separate his addiction from my life in order for it not to destroy me as well. The effects of living with an addict and taking on that responsibility are enormous and I feel for so many of these souls that are driven by something broken insde. Take care - sammieswife.

Shredding the documents?
Lets see - if I'm not mistaken and any ex-elders and lurking elders should be able to back it up -
- elders (at least 2 or more) investigate allegations - if evidence is found to prove allegations, then it goes to a judicial committee - notes are taken at the judicial committee in regards to who said what, counsel given, a complete summary of events including the accusers name(s) and these notes are then handed over to the chairman at the end of the meeting - the chairman puts the notes in manilla envelope and seals it, identifying the records inside with the date, judicial committee names and the person they met with on the outside - the envelope is filed in the local hall office. If the person is disfellowshipped then the chairman puts together a synopsis of what happened and discloses the names of everyone involved - this includes the accuser and the accused - this record is then sent to headquarters for their files.
If one is reproved and not disfellowshipped for some offences (and I believe pedophilia/molestation are two), then a form would be filled out with at least the reason why the person was reproved and in certain instances, the full details would be disclosed ie the accuser/accused.
Therefore, if there is a database of names that silent lambs has that gives the names of all those victims, then there are back up records for each of those people. The records go back to the congregration which contain the notes, elders, CO's etc and include dates and so on. If the records are followed backward and suddenly the Watchtower says there are no records, then it becomes obvious that they have been destroyed. No one destroys records except by order of the Society and since the Society will not put any direction in print, this would be a verbal order handed down by the CO, DO or the Society itself..................................sammieswife.

I want to call my mom...any advise???
by megsmomma inmy mom has disowned me and subsequently, my 6 month old....and i am sick of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am so frusterated to let this stinkin cult ruin and affect my life so much.
has anyone had success in talking to a relative and saying something to get them to think for themselves?

It does hurt and it always will - time is a precious thing and to have it wasted by order of the watchtower is disgusting. It is sad when a person has to fill out a 'next of kin' form for any notification of accident, injury or death - only to realize that despite having a family - they have no family to notify. sammieswife.

Tried. Got nowhere. Tried it lovingly. Tried it with reasoning. My whole family is still in and there is no communication at all. In the end, you can try the 'I'm not a witness so I don't have to play by their rules' game - and simply call, write or knock on their door and carry on a conversation or visit as if all were well - but sooner or later that too becomes pathetic. Change addresses and see if any JW relative notices or cares. Change your phone number and see if it registers in their lives. My advice is that as hard as it is - let it go for now - it's less stressful than trying to change anything that can't be changed.

Are Faders "better" than DF'd or DA'd?
by ESTEE inthis is something i've been mulling over.
just would like to hear opinions as to whether faders, or inactive ones think they are superior to disfellowshipped or disassociated ones?
what is your experience with this?

If you were once an elder, do you think somehow you still have it over a mere once-publisher
No - I don't. We have all been victims.
