i guess i am asking because i have recently accepted a study again with the witnesses. many things i didn't believe before, i believe now and am wondering wether it is because it has been so many years since i left the truth or if it's because i'm just wanting to believe there is something better out there. more things make sense now than they did when i was growing up and it has me in kind of a pickle :)

Out of Curiosity...Does Anyone Believe Anything They WereTaught??
by confuzzed ini think the question speaks for itself?

i think previously i replied to specific person not the whole forum and i apologise to those people for that. i this instance i feel the need to write again. basically what i said was that everyone has theoir imperfections and everyone needs to realise this. although not in the truth anymore, there are some wonderful elders who have made a lasting impression on my life. don't judge all because of a few bad ones. that would be like never eating your favourite food because you may have encountered a bad serving. you would still try again would you not???

firstly we must remember, jesus christ is not jehovah rather he is used as a 'pawn' so to speak. it was jesus who came down to earth to speak the teachings of his father, jehovah. i am confused however as to why you need help with this scripture. please explain why and maybe i can help

If God did have a new system..would you want to be there?
by happehanna ini was a witness for over forty years and for most of that time the "new world" "paradise" was not a place i ever wanted to live in.. there are many aspects of life in the 21st century that are great and i wouldn't want to give up.
tv, internet, blues/jazz clubs etc etc.. i may be shallow.
but there were other better reasons millions of people would have gone, wiped out by god: this never sat easy with me.. i told my elder father that i wouldn't want to live five minutes in god's new system, knowing that people i loved, had been killed by god because they didn't love him in the way he wanted.. just telling my father that has made me really wake up to how i really feel about my ex religion.. does a paradise earth as jw's depict appeal to you?

hi all. i have read many of the postings here and although i am currently inactive, i find some of the comments listed here confusing. for example, the comments regarding the internet, jazz/blues clubs etc. these are material possesions. although these are things that are enjoyed by many people, are they really essential to our life?? sure, they are things of enjoyment, but i am sure jehovah would give us things for enjoyment and we wouldn't miss the previous things we knew because we will not remember that which would be hurtful to us. the paradise should be appealing in the sense that we can, anything else aside, live in perfect health forever. now for a person like me who suffers terribly from chronic fatigue syndome, this prospect is quite appealing. and only jehovah can offer us this perfection. he was the one who gave it, took it away due to mans sin, and only he can replace the perefection he originally intended for the world. so you think it is impossible for the world to return to a paradise???? jehovah can do anything if we have FAITH in him. all he wants us to do is serve him and live a clean, moral life. that's it!! everything boiled down means living a moral life with standards. is this really so hard? sure, we don't really know what is coming but if we look at the prophecies in the bible that have so far been historically proved by people that aren't witnesses, jw's are the only religion heading down the right track. sure, we are surrounded by people in this system that are imperfect in many ways but the end of evil and the beginning of jehovahs reign will see the end of these imperfections that plague us and often send us out of the truth. although i am not in the truth at this time, i believe most of what i was taught. finally i would like to mention the comment regarding how jehovah could claim to be a loving god and then kill so many at armageddon. sure this sounds contradictory but if we think back to the gardon of eden he said when eve partook of the fruit that if they thought they could do better, then so be it. but, one day he would put an end to it, after man proved they couldn't successfully run the world, and all wickedness would be put to rest and only the good that he had intended would prevail. these wicked people are already dead to him. we must remember that when in the truth, we are there for jehovah, not for the imperfect humans that surround us today! sorry for the long posting

i forgot to mention in my last post that the two dearest men in my life were brother john dungey also refered to by me as 'uncle john' and a sweet old man called dudley (i don't think many people knew his last name). uncle john shaped my life in so many ways and even when i left the truth, uncle johns guidance saved me from making life latering mistakes (well some anyway:)). and anyone would have to admit even as a reformed 'jw' that there are some things going on out there in the big wide world that what our parents and elders said about them was true. bad associations poiling useful habits should not just be used for witnesses. i got into many horrible things that have scarred me in many ways due to the influences of people around me when i left the truth. then, uncle dudley. he was an elder but as the years passed on and he was no longer coherent enough to be an elder, his wisdom, soft voice and kind words will forever be a part of who i am. although many elders have their problems, considering they are mere imperfect mortals, i have found that in a lot of cases, if you are ready to see the elders as a friend rather than an enemy, they can be very valuable in more ways than just to discipline us when we have done something 'bad'. once again, maybe i am being too forgiving!

hi there. i'm new to this site. i generally think that the impression everyone has of the elders is the same: that they are all ever dominating over every aspect of our lives. i guess we need to remember that in MOST cases, the elders really do have our best interests at heart no matter how they go about showing it. having said that, i have had some bad experiences with elders and also some good ones. i don't feel that they should be in the firing line any more than any one of the other brothers and sisters that may judge us for one reason or the other; the elders just make themselves known more. i dunno! i believe they all believe that what they are doing is the right thing. am i too forgiving???? :)
