I knew the Graham family from Gibsons, snowcanuck. I think the father of the family was an 'unbeliever'. I was really good friends with his son Farley before I DA'ed.

of course i wouldnt want to encourage speculation, but when i was involved in the jws there was sometimes talk of what would or wouldn't be in/acceptable in 'the new system'.
i heard some happifying comments like there wont be any electric guitars or transport, and we wont be wearing clothes but we'll still have seasons
I love how you snuck that horrid term 'happifying' in there pleasuredome!
I used to tease all the hot witness girls that I would soon be oggleing them naked in the 'New System', and that that would lead to compromising situations while picking watermellon sized grapes and such.
On a sad note all the hardcore dorks would speculate about what they would do to clean up all the dead bodies lying around.

the post about crisis of conscience in which the poster said he knows there's some bad in the watchtower (as brought out in coc), but there's some good in it too got me to wondering about people that stay for the good in it.. the united states makes some decisions as a country that i don't agree with, perhaps even object strongly to.
but i don't disavow my citizenship.
it's mostly a good place to live, so i stay.. if you want to live in a way that utterly conflicts with the watchtower -- homosexual, multiple sex partners, smoking, whatever -- then you have reason to leave.
I felt I had a moral obligation to drop the witnesses after I found out the truth about the org. There was no other conclusion for me to come to than to stay in would be morally dishonest and that I would be a party to allowing people to die and shunning people, deceiving people ect.. I'd like to think that if there is a God he would apprieciate that.

i'd like to think of god and satan as the same power...if you like, god can be evil and the devil can be good.
it probably doesn't make much sense to you but i think as reality is as grey as it is (and not black/white), then probably the higher power(s) are/is too.
i honestly believe that thinking in terms of devil/god is not very fertile thing to do.
:Even if Satan was good would you want to be on the loseing side if god is the most powerful force in all existince then why would you want to go against him?
Yet another great point showing how the Bible is just a bunch of fables and myths.

tonight i heard one of the most cruel and twisted comments i've ever heard at the platform.
the topic was the apocalypse and whether or not children will be slaughtered.
through one side of his mouth, the po stated that the bible is not clear on the matter, while out the other side he pointed to all those old testament accounts where children were killed.
Spoken like a typical upstanding exemplary JDub.

i'm new to the forum.
i've never been a jw, but know someone who is.
if it's alright, i'd like to ask a question from time to time to help me understand why they believe the way they do.
Welcome to the board! Ask away.

since i am still active (somewhat).
i have not read the book and you know what the org says about it.
will crisis of conscience surely send me into a tailspin?
Dude, don't get upset. Just read the book. When you read the book.. you'll understand why everyone has such a strong opinion of it.

funny story.
in the last week i have had my disassociation from the cult announced and taken over as manager at a new place of employment.
both are awesome things!!.
That was awesome man. These are grown men and woman here.. you almost gotta feel sorry for em being so conditioned like that. We're all in the same boat, I get severely shunned as well because I DA'ed.

I'll wager that if you don't read CoC and leave that org. you have a serious emotional dependency that has everything to do with the illusion of safety and nothing to do with actual facts. Reading that book is like taking the blue or the white pill in 'The Matrix'; once you find out the truth re. the truth.. you can't go back.
BOO!
