Do you think the world will end soon. If so, when?

predictions for the end of the world have been going on since the time of christ, and in every century since then.

during the past 100 years there have been more predictions for the end of the world than have been made in all the previous centuries combined.

many of these prophesied dates have since come and gone.. people look around and see the possibility of many different natural or man-made disasters by which the end could come.

During the black plague of old seeing entire cities wiped out and famines where people were forced to eat their fellow humans, I'm sure the thought probably sprang to mind, "This must be the time of the end!" There's always this facination with the 'end', when the 'end' will come to flush away all the 'bad' people. Since you can only make decisions based on your own reasoning its a waste of the human experience to even bother thinking about some supernatural 'end' happening at all. If by some twist of f**ked logic the 'end' does happen, you did your best and you can't do anything to change things anyway.

I never really had a relationship with the Bible character Jesus, but my view of him has changed since leaving the dubs. He believed in the global flood and the God of the old testament. I don't. I just can't take any of the scriptures seriously anymore. I think Christianity has caused so much pain throughout history that I don't want anything to do with it.

I liked the "it is better to give than to receive" bit though. Not so much the eternal damnation bit..

i'd like to get comments from people about whether and how much they were shocked, surprised, or otherwise bothered by the watchtower society's becoming an associated non-governmental organization (ngo).. note that i'd like to see these comments because they might lead to some interesting publicity, so please comment accordingly.. alanf

It just seemed too over the top, I couldn't believe they could do something so stupid. It was as if they were trying to rub it in the face of everyone other than the rank and file that they are a group of lunatic cult leader hypocrites.

It's like the biggest joke in the world that everyone else is in on but the JW's themselves.

well, my sil and best friend came to this site on my recommendation (jw).

i just wanted her to check it out without judgement as we have always been able to talk about everything.

she basically was disgusted, said it was full of crap and lies and would never look at it again.

Not to sound intentionally mean but if she read through this site looking for you for months, found you, then read all your post's and is STILL a witness then she BELONG'S in the witnesses. Those type's of people are the worst kind IMO.. they know about all the cover-up's and lies, they know how much pain that sick cult cause's people who call them on the BS, they have a good idea of why the blood policy is bullshit and why pedophiles get protected and yet they still pound away on people's doors trying to make new convert's.. you're better off without this person IMO. She needs to get a freaking clue and a heart.

All that you can't leave behind

that was the title of a fabulous u2 cd, but i borrow it here to ask you all, old friends, a question.. first, apologies for being absent for so long.

"real life" projects have cut into my online time, been so busy i haven't had time to turn around twice.

but you are in my thoughts, daily.. my question for pondering...how do you know what to keep and what to throw away?.

I had to move this weekend and I came across some old notes I had taken at a district convention a few years ago. IT WAS SURREAL. I couldn't even believe the stuff I had written down! The funniest thing was that I never even believed in the material I was copying down for over ten years but still, there I was, droning away copying that junk down like a good little robot. All I can see in the notes now are scriptures taken out of context to further the goals of the Org.

It would be fun to sit through an afternoon at a district assembly this year with a few beers and just soak in all of that brainwashing, in morbid facination at how I wasted years of my life in that stuff.

here's one thing i get a kick out at times--- it's when i see a new poster give "counsel" and advice as if they were still a jw elder or "eldress" or wannabe.

you know the authority types that genuinely believe they know it all and that we're all anxious to hear what wisdom might be imparted to us.
