i'm looking through the new awake magazine (great article on shoplifiting by the way) and this older sister comes and sits beside me.
she started talking to me about this great little piece in the magazine about fish or something that should be on my dinner plate, something that i don't really care about, then she turns to me and said and i quote " where else but jehovah's organization can we learn such things?
i sat there with a dumbfounded look on my face thinking " are you kidding me?

LMAO.. nice post. I actually ran across a couple of 'Asleep' mags last night as I was clearing out a bunch of drawers. I couldn't read that boring crap even while I was a child, it was so mind numbingly boring. Just flipping through it last night for like thirty seconds made me start nodding off.

To me its pretty simple. The truth is more important than any dream. It's even more important than peace of mind. That's how I feel about things, thats why I disassociated myself. Even so, I was pleasently surprised to realize how much happier I actually feel having learned the real truth about the religion. My happiness was a bonus.

i stumbled upon this site by accident and spent the past several days just reading through the forums.
i must say, i'm both horrified and fascinated at what i've read so far.
although several members of my family are jw's, i have never known much about the religion and quite honestly, have never really gotten to know these family members well.
Hi, welcome to the board. Just a related comment - if a person decides to formally leave the JW's (disassociation) they are shunned by family and friends as well. A disassociated person is even considered worse than a difellowshipped one because they have purposely rejected the sect. So the religion is effectively set up so that it is virtually impossible to leave and not be shunned unless a person goes into hiding (and they are still usually shunned by most JW's for not attending). Hope this helps clarify.

The JW's are a destructive mind controlling cult. If you pursue this you will probably bring nothing but problems for yourself and the girl. Tie a clove of garlic around your neck, get a priest to exorcize any area you may have taken this girl, buy an attack dog, and move to Iceland.

this has always been a personal thorn in my side for years upon years.
let's say that your meetings took place on monday-wednesday and that other congregations had the tuesday-thursday slot.
let's also assume that you just happened to go to the mon-wed meetings due to personal circumstances and that tue-thur meetings were not possible.. now here comes da man on his bi-yearly visit.
Because circuit overseers are closer to God than regular people.

i disassociated myself just over 2 years ago.
i grew up in the truth so now i feel a bit lonely and out on a limb with no friends.... feels so strange cos i had so many mates in the truth.
i still believe what jws believe and im not seeking an alternative religion or anything like that.
