Memorial Alternative

hey what do you guys think of starting up like a thread on the night of the memorial to just relate reasons why we are happy to have left the organization and things we are greatful for?

this is going to be the first year for me in not attending the memorial and i think it might be sort of strange.

believers and unbelievers alike still have reasons to be grateful and i think this could be a nice little tradition every year here at jwd.

Sharing birthdays with famous people

when my husband was convinced to be baptized back in '74, the jw who studied with my husband went with him to meet with the elders.

when the elder asked for my husband's birthday for his records, he said nov 12 and the jw says "not my birthday, he wants yours".

my husband says, "it is mine".

My Book of Bible Stories

i just got my hands on a copy of my book of bible stories ... (1978).

at first i was excited when a friend pulled it out of his bag, said he'd gotten it as a kid.

then i started flipping through, looking at the pictures, feeling the memories spin in my brain.

What is the most OUTRAGEOUS thing you've ever seen an apostate do?

hey i was just wondering if some of you wouldnt mind relating some crazy stories of things that apostates have done to get attention of witnesses and break them out of the trance.

i would think right after the 'stay alive till '75' fiasco there must have been some really pissed off and vocal people!

What's your take on morality?

as former jws we were part of a highly moralising religion.

we have experienced the disastrous consequences of it in terms of hypocrisy, judgementalism or pathologic guilt.

most of us have changed our "moral parameters" drastically, but how far have we gone in questioning morality itself?.

I think morality is the natural product of our evolution as a species. Most of us have an inherent need to be liked and I think that has been the driving force behind all the general goodness of human beings.. the real reason we have laws and generally treat our fellow man decently.
