by GetBusyLiving ina while back when i was a witness i was reading a book with some dubblie friends that asked interesting questions to spark conversation and debate.
one of the questions was this: if you had could choose to live a life as an entirely content simpleton (forest gump) or a tortured genius (pablo picasso) what would you choose?
i was really taken aback when a lot of my friends said that they would choose to be forest.

Where do you think evil (or bad behavior) comes from?
by wordlywife inbeing worldly i try to get my head around this sometimes, and wondered what others opinions are.
being that my husband is a long time witness i know what the witness view is, it is all satan's doing.
since most of you are "out", has your view on the source of evil/unacceptable behavior, (whatever you personally find just out-right wrong, for me it is child sexual abuse), changed?

That's because those things are imaginary and ludicrous to rational people. They are OLD school religious attempts to explain the seemingly meaninglessness of life. Think about how rediculously unfair this notion is. Invisible creatures floating around manipulating people. You can't understand it because you were never a cultist.
As far as selfishness and evil I think it mostly has to do with genetics and our natural dispositions as humans. People are products of their environments as well and all those factors make up how we treat other people in society. IMO.

by diamondblue1974 ini was reading the thread about the prospect of the wts releasing some new light shite about a prophecy to fulfil the fact that they are not growing and it brought back a really horrid memory, unintentional i know but horrid nonetheless.. the co visited the congregation were i was from and after the obligatory song and prayer, it was announced that the co needed to speak to us urgently on a local needs issue.
he came onto the platform his look was sombre and melancholy (nothing new there then).
he said he had an announcement from the governing body and that their had been a law passed that day which banned jw's in the uk that the usa and other world governments had notified the wts that they were to follow suit shortly.

i was not sure if i had understood correctly so, i brought it up to my bible study conductor maggie, i was appalled that she agreed with this veiw, we debated it back and forth, until i got the upper hand, then she told me that i was to "rebellious and strong willed", and that i "should never get married", that i way i would not have to submit to male "headshit" "headship".

Man it IS like a freaking acid trip! I LOVE it when people hit those conventions then relate details back to our group. My buddy who is also ex dub went to the district convention last year because of his parents and said that he took like 50 pages of notes in just one day! He was facinated at the bullshit he used to believe in!

Evil SMURFS?

i've heard mention here and there about some 80s rumours regarding demonized smurfs (or something) that got jws in a panic.
i remember when i was a kid my aunt telling my mother about smurf dolls with blood on them walking around, i think.

I heard that a smurf tried to take a short notice talk in the main school. When the overseer told him that he would have to become a publisher first he gave him the middle finger in front of the entire congregation and said 'Screw you. I've had enough of this shit.' and stormed out of the hall.
