  i have already posted bits and bobs about my "story"... i like the companionship i have found here and i feel it about time i get this off my chest, so here it goes.

  i am a 20 year old montrealer (it is me above!

  ) who was brought up a witness from the day i was born.

  1975 - Lest We Forget

  i find the topic of the 1975 end of the world scenario facinating, especially since i never lived through it.

  do you old schoolers ever feel concerned that people will one day forget about what really went down?

  with whitewashed tripe like the 'proclaimers' book informing dubs that it was just the false expectations of over enthusiastic apostates, are you at all concerned that the legacy of bullshit that is 1975 will be a forgotten moment in history blamed on you instead where the blame really belongs?

  Smart JWs

  most of us often talk about what we don't like in the jws and why we left but i think there are some smart persons/families/entire congs there who know how to play the system, they don't really give a toss about the wts ideology (or behaviour) but they stay there just to have a good social or family life in exchange for giving 5 or 7 hours to the org per week.

  to them it is a social club not a religion.

  have you seen or heard anything on this?

  "I prayed for you"

  if you aren't a "believer", does it bother you when someone says "i'll pray for you" or "i prayed for you"?.

  one of my colleagues is an incredibly kind and sweet person, and i know she says it because she believes she's doing something good on my behalf.

  i always say "thank you for thinking of me", because i know that's the spirit she's intending to convey and that she cares about the situation i'm in vis-a-vis my jw relatives, but she knows i no longer believe in god (at least not in the sense that she does) - i wonder does she think that a few prayers are going to change my mind?

  What made YOU drop Christianity?

  after i read coc and left the dubs for a short while i considered myself christian.

  the way franz explained it, all that is required is to have faith in jesus and to love your neighbor as yourself and then you will be 'saved'.

  the more i started pealing away at the onion though the dumber the premise of someone dying for my 'sins' seemed, and i just lost faith in it altogether.

  wouldn't it be nice if we could beat the wts at it's own game?

  basically set up a fake "religion" and use their books and lit., rewritten so there is no copyright.

  basically say that we are a new form of jws who have been told by jehovah that there is new light and he has chosen a new voice to say it.

  After I read CoC and left the dubs for a short while I considered myself Christian. The way Franz explained it, all that is required is to have faith in Jesus and to love your neighbor as yourself and then you will be 'saved'. The more I started pealing away at the onion though the dumber the premise of someone dying for my 'sins' seemed, and I just lost faith in it altogether. Now I just accept that I don't have all the answers and its impossible to know the real truth about God.

  However, claiming yourself a Christian is considered a safe move by most on the off chance that that stuff actually happened. I don't buy this because it IMO presupposes that 'God' would fall for such a safety net salvation game. It seems stupid.

  Anyway, why did you dump Christianity? (if you have, hehe)
