I know that this question was once submitted to Bethel by some real idiots, they were told to forget it, the guy was dead, end of story.

I've heard a couple of versions of this same story. Having been to China many times, having lived in countries where JWs are banned, I can tell you this story is a complete and utter nonsense.

Did You Think Elders Should've Been Able To Be "Elders For Life"?
by minimus insome of the stupidest witnesses are elders.
i've known more than a few that were basically "nice guys" but as dumb as a stump!
some never knew when to keep quiet and the other elders always had to cover for them.

"I think if the judicial committee meetings were open to the congregation it might solve some of the problems. I wonder how Bible Student groups today handle serious wrongdoing and doers in their congregations? Blondie" That's a really great idea, in fact I think all Elders meetings of any kind should be open to the congregation if they want to attend. It would make a completely different organization in short order. I believe that in Israel they conducted their business at the city gate just for that reason.

Hooray for Farmer's Branch is what I say. A lot of Texas cities are being crushed by the burden of illegal immigrants and it's time someone did something about it. I realize this is mostly a symbolic gesture but apparently a grow number of cities are adopting ordinances like this. The truth is that if things are made tough enough for illegals you won't have to ship them back, they'll go back on their own. It has happened before. I'm just disappointed Farmer's Branch backed off on the employers part of it, that's where you could make some real impact. Interesting that this happened in a city with the dumbest JW congregation I've ever visited.

Disfellowshipping in America- more commonplace
by dido inwhen i was in the states, texas to be accurate, i attended some congs and got to speak to a few people, and i couldn`t believe how many times individuals were d/f, sometimes 3 or 4 times, and they were also married the same times as well, in the so called `truth`.
i did feel that it made a mockery of the `truth` as in england, most people are only d/f once, very rarily twice or more.
i know america is more advanced in many areas, good things and bad, but i was shocked at the ratio out there.

In my experience it's very much a local thing. I know of congregations that never disfellowship anyone and then I know a congregation in a Dallas suburb that disfellowships someone every other month on the average, easily six a year and usually more. I would very much like to know the name of the reinstated Elder in South Missouri, I suspect that I know him.

Is there Racial harmony among the JWs?
by Amazing inwhen i joined the jws, racial issues were not really discussed much, other than some mention in the material given to me during my bible study in the "truth" book.
our kingdom hall had only one dark skinned individual, who is portguese, and one of the anointed.
i believe that he is now deceased.

Most of the congregations I've been in seemed to have no racist element at all. A few individuals had an issue that surfaced occassionally. I've been in congregations with several mixed race couples and no one had a problem with it that I could tell. I have seen some separation when it came to socialising, in at least one congregation it was absolutely the norm for white familes to incldue black families in their gatherings but it was rare for black families to include whites in theirs. I looked into it and found there was a whole separate black social structure that stretched over about half a dozen congregations. I talked to one of the brothers about it and he said it just kind of happened becaus some people felt more comfortable with it. Afterward, I was invited to a couple of these deals and everyone seemed fine with it, I was just one of the bunch. I never did really figure it out.

Meetings are BORING!
by 5thGeneration inwhy do the brothers take such offense when someone says that the meetings are boring?.
i can't possibly fathom how people who have been going to the meetings for decades can sit at the kh and listen, for example, to yesterday's wt study for an hour about adam and eve, cain and abel, how we are all allowed to pray, blah, blah, blah... and not be bored out of their minds!.

I dunno, the last KS school I went to they said most people came to the meetings out of loyalty, not because they were interesting or well done.

I believe there was a case in Iowa recently, the guy changed his will and left everything, or nearly everything to the local congregation. It was contested and they lost.

Bergman has absolutely no credentials related to mental health, or health of any kind. He is a Witness opponent, which is fine, but using his mental health book as a reliable source for determining the state of mental health among Witnesses lends no credibility to the discussion.
