How interesting. Do you have a link to that website?
Oh and take a look at the thread I started earlier today, it is about the intl. bible students, and you just answered the question I asked in my thread.
i was on the beth sarim jw reform site today and read some interesting threads from all sorts of folks, including some bible students (you know, of the ones that started off the watchtower but refused to follow the apostate rutherford when he succeeded in his legal coup for control when russell died).
i never could understand the doctrine of the paradise earth hope, which the jws seem to confuse with the millennial kingdom.
anyway, i stole a bit of someones post which i found interesting:there is not one scripture that relegates the hope for those who follow jesus in the narrow way to anything but heaven?

i keep jwd up at work all day.
i frequent this site throughout the day.
when i get home at night, the last thing i want to do is look at a computer screen.
I work two different jobs but don't have a computer at either one. So all my posting happens from home. I'm guessing that many, many people post from work, because the site always seems to be slower during the weekends, and then it perks up again, comes Monday.
Rebel8, where in NY are you? I'm between Utica/Rome and Old Forge
recently, i've been reading through the international bible student's website.
i really like it and i'm reading as much as i can in order to get familiar with them.. however, i don't understand where exactly they came from.
they mention the name "charles russell" often and they also have some pictures of him on their site.
Yes it is! I lived for over 10 years in San Diego, and went to the meetings throughout all that time, and NOT ONCE did any witness say anything about Judge Rutherford's house, Beth Sarim, being right there in the city!!!
OOHHHHH you've seen beth sarim? What does it look like? Does it look like a mansion? And who bought it? Individuals or an organization?
Of course they want to keep the beth sarim episode as quiet as possible, because the whole thing was such a blunder. The one thing I never understood was, since they built a house for the faithful men of old, so that they would have a place to live upon their return to earth, why did they build it in CA? Why not around Jerusalem or something? I bet that judge Rutherford got himself a nice place to live there. perhaps it being for the faithful men of old was just a cover... the good ole judge needed a fine place to live without sowing seeds for questions as to why the organization's money was used to build it.

Isn't it amazing how little modern-day witnesses know about the history of their own organization? And how intensely they are discouraged to learn about it? You'd think an organization founded on Truth; an organization which claims to be the One and Only True Religion, would be extremely proud of it's history and accomplishments. Makes you wonder......
That is a very interesting thought, sith, and so true. It makes me think of the time when I asked questions about "how it all began", because I really wanted to know, as it seemed important to me. But after asking a ton of questions, I finally realized that nobody really answered them, they always found a way around my questions and tried to direct my attention to something else (like how I lacked faith, lol). mj, thanks a lot for that explanation, that helps. So now I wonder if the international bible students are actually the true Jehovah's witnesses... they have no organization on earth, their members have the freedom to come and go, they don't get shunned when they leave. They recognize Charles Russell as the founder of their group, and they don't seem to come up with false predictions. I'm going to do some more reading on their website tonight, and try to find out what they say about "this generation".
besides my desire to hit 700 posts before noon (est) and a general base appeal for validation and attention (heee, hee), i would like to vent about something that just happened.. i was at an intersection with another vehicle.
he was in the left turn only lane (conveniently located on the left); i was in the lane very clearly marked as left or right turn only (conveniently located to the right of the other driver)...meaning i have the option of turning right or left, right?
so the light turns green and we both turn left.
Ouch. I go grocery shopping once or twice a month with a friend. This friend has incredible road rage. She will actually get out of the car at traffic lights and start screaming at people, calling them every name in the book and more. It is extremely embarrassing. I usually get out of the car too and start telling people "she doesn't mean it, she doesn't mean it.." One time she actually punched a guy in the face only because she decided that his car was parked too close to hers. Yes I know this sounds all too strange but it is true. My shopping buddy doesn't have many friends (lol), she is extremely hot headed, always has been. I always tell her, leave people alone, because you never know whom you are talking to. She also got pulled over a couple of weeks ago for flipping off a police car because the car passed her at high speed. She flipped him off and he stopped, giving her a ticket. Another time she started yelling at a police officer because -again- he was parked too close to her car. She called him a moron and a lowlife, and I was standing next to her, begging the police officer not to arrest us. You wanna hear some more stories about road rage?
*answer yes or no and you will be one post closer to 700* LOL

However, I don't understand where exactly they came from. They mention the name "Charles Russell" often and they also have some pictures of him on their site. My guess is that they were founded by Charles Russell, and that the JWs were at one point the intl. bible students, but they formed their own group eventually. I'm not sure about that, and would like to know more. I don't know if this theorie of mine holds, because they also have a link where they list groups that were originally Intl. Bible students, and the JWs are not on that list. I'm pretty confused. They also have a couple of links about the JWs, but neither one of the links works, unfortunately. I thought the links might explain how they are related to the JWs. Can anyone tell me more about them?
this has always been a personal thorn in my side for years upon years.
let's say that your meetings took place on monday-wednesday and that other congregations had the tuesday-thursday slot.
let's also assume that you just happened to go to the mon-wed meetings due to personal circumstances and that tue-thur meetings were not possible.. now here comes da man on his bi-yearly visit.
Same here, it always annoyed me. When the CO visited, our Thursday meeting would be on Tuesday, and our Tuesday bookstudy would be abbreviated and at the KH on Thursday, for the whole congragation.
are they assigned?
are they in any way related to status?
if you usually park in the same space every meeting, then one day you arrive to find someone else there...... .
At the KH where I went to, we were not allowed to sit in the back row either, as this was reserved for people with young children. As for parking, it seemed that most people always parked in the same spot, just like they always sat in the same spot at the KH. When I had surgery a few years back, I was "allowed" to sit in the back, because I couldn't sit on a chair for too long and had to walk around a lot. I ended up faking the pain for a few weeks longer than was necessary, because I loved sitting in the back.
.
hey guys check this out.
i was at the local farmers market where i am a vendor and came across a stand selling emu products, watch out candidlynuts emu hunting season is fast approaching...lol!
There's an emu farm in my neighborhood as well. Emu burgers are supposedly 97% fat free. I've eaten both emu and ostrich, but didn't like any of it. (I'm not a meat eater, but like to try everything at least once, just to see if I'm allergic to anything). Yeah, I'm kind of weird.
how many people that come to this board are faders only?
i am interested to know the statistics on how many people have left the borg because they have discovered their untruths or become disillusioned.. thanks,.
miss peache
I just read this entire thread and it sent chills down my spine. The power they have over people, over whole families, is amazing. Just imagine that someone who is not familiar with the JWs would read this thread. What would they think? Anyone should be able to walk away from any organization without consequences. If such is not possible, then it smells like restriction of freedom to me..
