Do you know of any "baptized" JW's that committed suicide or attempted?
by booker-t ini remember one of my childhood friends was found dead and the police said he committed suicide.
i just could not believe it because my friend was a "devout" jw almost franatical about it.
now years later since i have seen both sides of the coin i am beginning to wonder if my friend did indeed kill himself.

Yes, when I was a teenager but had already left the org there was a friend of mine in Lake Tahoe who committed suicide. It was quite a shock to me and at the same time that I learned of this, I learned that he had been selling cocaine right in the kingdom hall during meetings. He was one my my very good friends while I was in the religion

I truly agree with you about that. I too way humiliated every single day at school when I was forced to not salute the flag, when I couldnt sing the National Anthum, when there were parties that I couldnt attend, when I couldnt give Valentine's Day cards, when I NEVER received V-Day cards, (which incidently I think that the feeling I got when receiving one card is the same one that allowed me to accept crumbs being thrown by a significant other) etc...

Nevertheless, isn't there quite a bit of speculation here? I mean, why don't we just blame the elders for this tragedy? How does anyone know that the elders asked them to "work things out" and prevent her from getting a seperation? Honestly, no one here knows the particulars of the case, at least not the "Witness" side to it.

Strange disfellowshippings!
by AK - Jeff ina few years back a 'sister' in our hall was df'd for marrying a disfellowshipped man.
they were both free to remarry 'scripturally' - in their late-middle years of life.
i asked one of the local pharrasies why?

This is probably one that you all have heard a hundred times:
I was disfellowshipped at 14 years of age for "bringing reproach upon the name of Jehovah" because I first went to the elders about sexual abuse by my step-father and physical abuse by my alcoholic mother and when they didnt do anything about it, to my favorite teacher and the local police department. Since I had no witnesses to my abuse besides my immediate family (and they werent talking) the authorities were going to have to return me to my mother unless they declared me an incorrigible juvenile, which they did just to get me away from her. Incidently, after they returned me to her one time and I came back to them with bruises from my neck to my ankles, the police were able to document the abuse and keep me from her and make me a dependent of the court which means that SHE was the party at fault not me. Even after that, my step-father and her were not disciplined!!!!
