The context clearly indicates that only those who are disfellowshipped are shunned. As such it is probably a lie in the form of theocratic warfare, however it intrigues me given a situation in my family. The downside is that it could open up the disassociated to being disfellowshipped for not following the Watchtower's puritanical rules. Of course the rules cited would be unobjectionable to most people, who would agree that "drunkenness, adultery, and stealing" are 'bad.' Note that they do not say 'alcoholism,' which the general public recognizes as a disease, but 'drunkenness,' something that all 'good' people, including recovering alcoholics, should avoid. Was Clinton raised a witness, because I suspect that there are lawyers who also have English degrees and can't parse so deceptively.

Are the disassociated NOT to be shunned now?
by comment inrado vleugel pointed out on another thread that the current response to "do you shun former members?
" on the jw-media.org site represents a more hardline viewpoint as far as treatment of disfellowshipped family members.
once it said, "disfellowshipping does not sever family ties.

Is there a word for setting someone up to be convicted for a crime committed while in court on a trumped up charge? Not contempt of court, mind you, but saying "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses?" If not, I suggest "Caiaphasing" as the term.
Of course, in Caesar's courts you cannot be tried for something done as part of a trial in the same trial.

Good call on the chair possibly being a lawyer. I still wonder whether it is the same pedophile who Bill has declined to name, but whose being given a position of authority helped Bill to see the corruption in the system. If so, it would present a challenge: Such a person is not worthy of respect, least of all to sit in judgement; but it would be difficult to avoid a charge of legal slander by identifying him as such later, if he has not been convicted.
Interesting strategy here:

Good luck, Bill.

Bill, do you know who the elder chairing the meeting will be? Any chance it is the pedophile whose appointment you have opposed? That would raise some eyebrows!

So they admit you are denied the right to counsel. Remember this next time they try to defend their star chamber courts as just.

Kitten Burnt on Hot Coals (Serious)
by SYN in.
this is so horrible and unimaginably cruel.
i'm usually a very laid-back, easy-going guy, but if i ever saw people doing something this cruel to a helpless little kitten they would get to find out many painful things about the pointy end of a stick!

As I was reading the article, I tried to put myself in the shoes of the rescuer, and wondered how I might prevent the groups from escaping unidentified, perhaps by shooting a few photos. Just before reading your reply I though that maybe busting a cap in the asses would make it easier for police to i.d. them.

I stopped going to meetings at the end of 2000, but had not been looking for a couple years before that because I didn't want to bring my doubts into a Witness marriage. Prior to that, it seems almost every time I had an eye on a young sister who was apparently spiritual but not yet of age to date, she was already (often secretly) dating a 'marginal' brother, usually several years older. I'm not actively looking right now, but I am glancing.

by Visionary Man inthis is my first post on this forum.
i am by all accounts a witness, if not an ideal one.
in light of the reaction after the panorama program i have seen a mixed variety of responses.

For all the times we were told not to run ahead, think for ourselves, or behave as our own personality dictates; for all the focus that was put on relying on the Society to reveal and act on what is right; it is amazing how when the shit hits the fan we are faulted for not being rugged individuals.

I saw Milt up close at the '96 Internationals, then in '99 or 2000 at a KH dedication. Based on the trend I saw, he should be pretty much decomposed by now; rigor mortis had already set in when I saw him the second time.

The Coca Cola Corporation
by invisible insitting this evening with friends chilling out as you do, most of them anti-global capitalists and coca cola came up into the conversation.. you know, we couldn't come up with anything that essentially this giant corporation was doing or has done that might affect adversely other people elsewhere.
all they produce is one bloody great drink that everyone loves.. anyone else heard of or have something on this corporation?.

On a recent trip to California, I was seated next to a guy reading a Muslim newspaper on the leg from Philly to Chicago. I read over his shoulder an article calling for a boycott of Coke, consisting chiefly of unfounded or illogical accusations. I piped up that a Coke bottler was one of the largest and most reliable employer of Palestinians in either Gaza or the West Bank, as I had read a few months ago in either Business Week or Newsweek.
Three points stood out: 1) Coke supports Israel, although nothing specific was cited. 2) Coke sells small servings for very little money in poor countries, which uneducated mothers use in place of milk for their babies. 3) Coke has been accused of selling old product cheaper in minority neighborhoods.
