Waking up - introduction
by Dreamerdude ini am a male, born into the jw cult(ure), baptized as a teen, now mid fifties.
most of my life i dreamed of hugging pandas and lions, punctuated at times by nightmares of armageddon or jw drama and politics.
still going through the motions for still-in wife.

Your Thoughts: My wife said...her service friend. speculated Prince would leave his vast fortune to the Society!
by goingthruthemotions inso, talking with my wife yesterday.
she was out cart witnessing (barf) and one of the people she was with claimed to have know prince, or meet him or something like that.
well anyways...they or her or someone (they are all braindoogled) speculated or fantasized that since prince did not have any relatives or something or the other.

I read online that he has a sister, also a musician, aunts, uncles, cousins and half siblings. I'm sure there are plenty of relatives to distribute his money too. Unless his will stipulated the WTS gets it all, which I doubt based on his recent behavior; it seems to me that he drifted away from the witnesses in the last few years. -

Once I knew it wasn't the one true religion as I thought. I knew that I wasn't going to let my kids grow up in the religion. I knew that if I continued on going to meeting and service, that my kids would do so too. I also knew that if I stopped I may lose my wife and other family members. I felt that I had to stop and try my best to save my kids and if I ended up divorced I would still do everything I could to save my kids. I couldn't stomach the idea of my kids growing up as witnesses and then eventually shunning me. I really believe that if you have young kids you need to do all you can to save them and that saving them is more important that saving the marriage or other family relationships. I know it's easier said than done but many here have put everything on the line to live a life of freedom and to save their kids.
I really hate the JW cult.

AGREE? or DISAGREE? Popular Music
by Terry inhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip0wuwjbdmi.
"from 1955 till present, popular music has declined to the point where it is now consistently "stupid" and homogenous.

First of all that sounds like a statement an old person would make - an old person from any previous generation throughout time about a younger generation.
Second I would argue that crappy songs and lyrics could be found in any genre of music throughout time as well.
Third, music is art and art is subjective. Each listener has likes and dislikes; why would one person or persons claim to know what is viewed as quality by another person or persons.

Any here who didn't rebel as a teenager and were a goody two shoes instead?
by purrpurr inwhen i was a teenager in the borg i was a dyed in the wool, goody two shoes, squeaky clean,"spiritual " sister.
alot of my peers around me were rebelling and going off the rails but not me.
i was constantly praised for this and even felt a little smug about it ha!.

I was a goody two shoes. I would push the envelope a bit and listen to music that my dad didn't like but that was easy to do (he doesn't really care for any music). I did a few things that got me talked to by an elder or two but never any real trouble. Pioneered and went to bethel as expected. I don't regret my youth but I do wish some things had been different. -

what do you think is the main reason why so many young ones are waking up?
by Crazyguy inseems as though the number of baptisms even for the young ones is down from what people report here.
at my former hall the young ones are all in totally sheltered even while going to school.
expressing thier desires to pioneer etc.

From my experience with my kids:
1. Embarrassed to tell classmates about being a witness, even at a young age.
2. Internet.
3. School teaching critical thinking.
4. Me working my ass off to make sure they didn't fall prey to the WTS.

I'm fully out but my wife is 100% dub. But, she's sick and misses a lot of meetings. We've come to an unspoken agreement on many things over the last few years. The kids and I go to memorial but that is the only witness we do. In return my wife has some involvement in most holidays with us as long as no one at the KH finds out.
At first it was really tough and uncomfortable as she would get ready for the meetings and make the kids go too. But, it got easier as time went by and I spent a lot of time with the kids and developed a great relationship with them that was not built on the JW religion. In the end all my kids told my wife that they weren't interested in being witnesses.

Did you participate in a Drama?
by Hecce ini am bringing this up because even it was a lot of work, for the majority of the friends this was a rewarding experience.
camaraderie, joking, costumes, props and when the time came the celebrity status of being in the drama.. back in the 50s and 60s, conventions could be as long as 8 days and from about 1966 the dramas became an integral part of the program.
we had one per day and the brothers looked forward to their presentation.

Hecce, I think you're right. Everyone felt special and was getting more than the usual attention from the CO and even the DO when he came to a couple rehearsals but the hours involved were ridiculous.
Me, I just liked the girls and the food.

Friends of onacruise
by Onacruise2NephewBoogaloo ini was born into the elastic fact, tract & knock knock club, as it is known to some, but most often you will hear them referred to as "the worst thing i've ever been through.
"i had the typical jw early life of forced compliance by sadistic joy killing narcissists.
i learned early on that 'new light' doesn't come from stifled children and there was no suggestion box at my house.. when i was 6 my parents divorced and my mom quickly remarried and we moved from portland to the oregon coast.

she has decided to go to costa rica as a missionary (i guess that's what they are still calling them, unless that has changed, been gone so long i don't know if they came up with a new term for it).

Don't worry, she'll be back in a few years and be looking to borrow money or to have you help her with retirement. It seems the witnesses trust in J with everything they have....until it comes time to retire. At retirement it's all 'is your basement being lived in...?'
