a certain young person told me last night a jw friend of his from n.y. received an elder visit .
the suspect was told that the elders had been lurking about on myspace and had caught several young ones with accounts there .
they told this person's account was benign yet was counseled it was bad association to be on myspace.
Sounds like local elders with suspicions about the youth in their congregation. Apparently they were right.
The harder they squeeze the more sand that escapes their hand.
i received my first elder call yesterday.
he wants to talk to me today.
i have never been afraid of the elders but i also have no experience on what they are going to say because i have never ask for their opinion on anything and i have never been accused of anything either so, any ex or current elders here that can brief me about what to expect?.
Do not meet the elder. Do not discuss anything with the elder.
Come up with one or two sentences that work for you that can be given to anyone asking you for information.
Something like: "thanks for your concern, it's nice that you care about me. But, I've got a lot going on right now and I do not have time to talk/meet/sit down/discuss/whatever it is they want right now. If I need to talk with you about anything I will let you know. Again, thank you so much for your concern. bye bye"
Just something you can practice and spit out at a moments notice. Do not discuss any doubts, issues, thoughts, concerns or problems with them. Not just the elders, but anyone in the congregation. Unfortunately no one is to be trusted. Well, that is unless you really trust someone. :)
not an organized type, at least.
as an elder, i would try to bend the organization's rules so as to be more moderate and give the "sheep" a little more comfort.
but no elder or group of people could organize such a group and stay within the watchtower's (kingdom hall's) walls.
The GB is the head and the congregations are the body. I view the COs and DOs as the nerves running from body to head.
In this instance the body is changing and becoming weaker and not as focused, the nerves are telling the head this and the head's response is to tighten control over the body. I truly believe that the head doesn't know what to do.
Think about it. Most members of the GB and the other heavies that directly interface with them haven't had the proper training in how to run an organization of the dubs size. It takes college, tutoring and plain old on the job training to learn that stuff. Training that they've never had. I can just imagine them asking each other "what do we do to control the friends and make them listen to us?"
Running a billion dollar corporation isn't child's play - neither is herding the cats in the congregations (publishers are cats in this example)
a few months ago, a danish newspaper printed a set of cartoons about mohammad, the most important prophet of the moslem religion.
a few weeks ago, a small norwegian newspaper followed, and also printed the drawings.
moslems all over the moslem world are now rallying against both the newspapers and the danish and norwegian governments, which they hold responsible for this.
the end is near, the end is near
some believe that jesus christ is the salvation.
others have opinion that the organization is the salvation.
where is the truth?
These are some of the scriptures I've learned about how important a personal relationship with Jesus is and why we shouldn't be dependent upon an organization but the holy spirit.
john 16: 12-15 -"I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
1 John 2:27 -As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.
John 3:16-21: 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, [f] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. [g] 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." (from bible gateway)
John 3: 31-36: 31 "The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. 33 The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. 34 For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God [k] gives the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him." [l]
Matthew 18:20 -"For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
1 Cor. 11:3 - Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
i found this on touchstoneforum.com which is a totally pro (and full of themselves) website.
i may take a look at this over the next week or two to digest it, but has anyone already reviewed these points?.

Alright I am bringing this back up because I'm hoping some posters here have some comments. The last time this was dicussed JCanon killed my thread.
I am interested in this issue because I expect the society or individual witnesses to begin using it as a 607 crutch.
i've just finished reading the book...and i know most of it is fiction, but some of you might have read it too.
as an ex-jw, it really made me think...the author has an excellent way to make one think outside the box without making it look like he wants to ram his ideas into your head...you know, it's kind of subtle, amongst all the action and enigmas.
my father loves to read...i really want him to read that book.
I know of dubs who've read it. Dubs are reluctant to read it. Those that do are even more reluctant to tell others.
I thought it was a fun book. So was angels and demons.
do you stop yourself from doing something you might otherwise do because a witness is within vision?
does the watchtower still "watch" you?
does your conscience kick in because the organization's ideas are still within you??
They exert influence over my life because they control the life of my family. When I get my family out, their influence will cease.
yes i'm new to this forum and i have been searching the net and reading with interest peoples comments here and on other sites.
as most know reaching out as a faithfull jw to others outside of the congregation is difficult at first ,as i guess we think anyone outside the congregation is wordly etc.
and we can't open up easily to "strangers" as jehovah would not approve.
Hi wazadummy!! I'm laughing at your screen name. Read various experiences here and I think you'll find you are far from alone.
Please, relate the experiences that brought you into the truth. Perhaps you will find commonality with some others here. It has been my experience that the dubs have a long track record of converting individuals at weak points in their life or who are uninformed spiritually but searching diligently.
