i just spoke to a friend who was a witness years ago when we were kids and she told me an interesting thing.
when she went to the hospital to discuss things due to her being pregnant and going to have a baby at this hospital , they told her that the brisbane and gold coast hospitals were no longer going to offer jw's blood fractions.
they are sick and tired of all the unclear sayings and that ppl dont even know what they will accept or not , and they are having so many problems that they have a new form to be filled out.
However, if blood fractions are available and not used, when a witness will accept them, who would be responsible if the individual dies?
Doesn't a medical institution have to use what technology is available, and accepted by the patient, to save a life?
I hate the blood policy and worry about my family all the time. However, I was successful in convincing my wife that blood fractions are ok. I would hate to have her die anyway because the hospital would refuse to provide the fractions.

Quandry, those are all fine ideas. But, the reality is if his wife wants to go to the meeting she will view those things as him purposely trying to subvert her faith.
There isn't a way to win in this situation.
If you go you're miserable and your wife knows it and gets pissed.
If you don't go you're happy but your wife is miserable and she gets pissed.
I think one thing you could do is give her a sentence or two that she can memorize to answer those at the KH who ask about you.
Make it something simple and memorable. Tell her you know it's dificult answering questions about someone else's situation and this simple phrase should help. Perhaps some others on the board can suggest a good short phrase.
I do not help my wife get the kids ready. If she wants to attend with them she can get them ready. I watch tv or eat breakfast or sleep; depending on how I feel that morning. It used to cause trouble but in the last 6 months things have become fairly routinized.

You're so right, they don't actually listen to a thing we say.
In my opinion they actually listen to just enough to find a plausible (to them at least) error in your statement or reasoning so their justified in ignoring everything else you say on the subject.
the book study is one of the most useless meetings.
the same books have been studied 3 or 4 times.the meeting takes only an hour but takes up most of your evening.
and, it is one of the least attended meetings.. why haven't they combined the watchtower study with just question and answer and then follow with the book study with just question and answer?

one scripture you will not hear during the part is the one scripture jesus himself spoke of small groups getting together, this one:.
matt 18:20 "for where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there i am in their midst.".

My wife and I have come to an unspoken agreement. We don't discuss the truth unless I've drunk too much or she has pms. Not bad really, but these two circumstances tend to coincide all too frequently. :)
losing elders in the us puts the organization into quite a dilemma.
they hate large congregations.
but can't split without enough appointed local 'enforcers'.
I know and knew a lot of great elders. You could always tell who they were because they were talking to the friends and looked tired because they do all the work.
What I miss most?: hanging out and reading the announcement board during the meeting. Oh man I ved being out of my seat and roaming the back of the hall. Sometimes I would go out to the parking lot 'to make sure there is no funny business going on out there'. hehehehehhe - ahhhh the fresh air, I remember it well.

I would like to add that reading some of your posts sort of freaks me out. The use of the multiple third person narrative is uncomfortable to read. Might I suggest that each member of the group take a number and begin their posts under your joint name with 'this is A' or something of that nature. It's none of my business so don't listen to me.

two 5 minutes (one by a brother and one sisters) (assigned by the elder to members of the bookstudy group) - no signup for this assignment required, it's not officially the school but a preparation to join the school or better your speaking habits in a smaller more intiimate group.

a 5-10 minutes bible reading (by a brother, of course!)
The talks could be assigned by the BSO and his assistant. The added pressure of having a part may force certain ones to show up when they otherwise would not. It could also be sold as a means to prepare certain ones who are nervous about giving talks at the KH to do so and to prepare everyone for more informal witnessing.
PLUS, since we're so close to the end the WTS would easily see the rumor spread that this change was due to the persecution that they see 'right around the corner.'
Just my opinion.
an interesting side topic arose on another thread about praying with people at the door.
i did door to door witnesses for decades and never once prayed with someone at the door, and yes, requests were made.. by not praying with worldly ones i was following the instructions from the fds.
however, i never really understood the wts stance on this.. i would like to hear others thoughts about why praying at the door with someone would be scripturally appropriate or not.. i realize that it may be a loving and compassionate thing to do.
