Last I heard Yasko was a DO in NoCal. Probably still trying to lighten the mood by making fun of his name and ethnicity.

so my wife out of the blue says .
"i thought when we went under ban, everyone would still meet in peoples houses at the the book groups.
now they are doing away with that arrangement, what does it all mean.?
Most of us are familiar with how the elders really are.
They will do the smallest amount of work possible. Once the studies are disbanded it'll be like pulling teeth to get the newly titled CBSO to shepherd his little group.
Unless....the WTS makes the newly titled CBSO shepherd a separate family within his group each week. That would force the elders to shepherd and maintain control over the small groups. Of course, the elder wouldn't get a night off then. That would only last a short time before it sort of fades away.
please take a quick glance at the following as i am in final preparations for sitting in with my wife on her bs this evening...the sister is bringing along her husband, the po from the congregation to answer some of my questions.
i know there will not be time to get to all of this, but is any of it extremely good or extremely worthless to ask.
i need to remember to keep calm, respectful, and realize that i can not attack, there may be times when i need to ask for more time.
Interesting topic.
I don't have a copy of my NWT with references handy.
Does the NWT give any cross-references for the scriptures which seem to come from Enoch?
sat in on my wife's bible study tonight, next week the husband of her study sister is coming with her, he is actually the presiding overseer of the congregation.
tried to get me to talk about trinity next week, but the topics will be either generation or michael.. .
the sister pointed to the statement in matthew on generation, i believe it was matthew 24:14 and said that since jesus was talking to his disciples, that equates to the anointed.
insearchof,
The JW canned response will come from the Reasoning book. If you have it good. If not get it.
They don't come up with answers for every argument. They don't need to - they're right regardless of what you argue. They just rely on being right no matter what you say.
It's unfortunate but there it is.
The most they can do is use the CDrom and/or read the Insight and Reasoning book - which all pretty much use the same arguments.
so next week i have the talk " how should we respond to people who say we are false prophets?".
anyone have any suggestions?.
Uh-oh. A letter to all bodies of elders just left Brooklyn which asks all elders to submit the names of next week's number 4 speakers.
I would do the opposite of exposing.
Come off as really dogmatic and gung-ho.
There are times when a speaker was overly zealous that it turned me and others right off.
We couldn't disagree with what was said but we would always discuss how nutty the super righteous brother sounded.
a couple of years ago, my book study overseer told me he was considering me for the position of "special assistant" which is a grade below ministerial servant.
my duties would have involved conducting the book study.
i'm pretty sure this has been mentioned before but wanted to know if anyone knew anything about this.. .
Never heard of it.
Of course, there are always the brothers who help out behind the counter and offer closing prayer and stuff like that who aren't ministerial servants. I guess some bodies have developed their own terminology for someone in that situation. The CO would probably shut it down if he heard it.
You should tell the CO that the brothers are considering you for such a position and how honored you are. Then ask him if he can help you find the specific qualifications for the position so you know what to work on.

i just finished his book "combatting cult mind control", and was very inspired.
he is the world's premiere "exit counselor", or someone who helps others get out of destructive groups.
his web site here:.
Has anyone ever taken the briggs meyer personality tests?
They come out with personality identifiers like ISTN or ENFP and stuff like that.
What could be presented as a fun 'party game' to learn about yourselves and friends could actually be useful in determining core personality.
1 thessalonians 2:15 tells about the jews that they "killed the lord jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not god, and are contrary to all men" (kjv; other versions translate "oppose everyone", "are hostile to all men", "oppose all mankind" etc.)..
doesn't this statement reflect an anti-semitic attitude on the part of the writer?
we shouldn't forget that such a view about the jews was commonplace among the pagans.
When I read it in context it doesn't appear prejudicial. The writer (Paul) isn't saying every Jew is guilty of those things and is to be adversely judged for them.
He is saying that the gentiles suffered from other non-christian gentiles just like christian jews suffered from non-christian jews.
I will say that as usual JosephMalik, you've given me something to think about. I've never quite put together that the first part of verse 16 was referring to James and the circumcision group. I'll have to think on that awhile but it seems plausible and even likely. Especially if you tie this in with Romans 14:2 where Paul talks about those who eat only vegetables as having weak faith.
hmmm...
can anyone tell me which book will be considered at the next bookstudy and when it will start.
i believe revelation is almost done.. thanks..
everyone is thrilled that the revelation book is done and that the next two books are light reading.
My wife can't wait for Jan 09 when she doesn't have two mid-week meetings anymore.
