  becoming a jehovah's witness

  hello all who may read this, i am in the midst of writing a story, and a character who has appeared in the story is a jehovah's witness... i am attempting to gain a better understanding of the religion and its practitioners so as to present witnesses in a fair light... i am of no religious affiliation, but i assume that anything that a person believes is valid as long as they have put it through much consideration and thoughtfulness...

  ) of you are ex-witnesses, but i would like to know about what first attracted you to the religion to begin with... was it just passed down in your family, or did you make a conscious choice to become a witness?

  if so, for what reasons?

  Just curious--Did you finally leave? and also wondering--you said at the end, "The guilt, the guilt. To what are you referring. the guilt of what your daughter is now experiencing as a result of being a witness or what? Did your husband also see through all the bull. I sure hope so. i curous because I was in about that time also 1971. Actually got baptized in 1969. I was very lucky to leave in 1988. Still a lot of years, but now at last--I have built a network of real friends, although I lost family members and a bunch of jw friends. We have all been there, my friend, hang on in there. It's great to be free.

  I've forgotten so much!

  brigid and i were talking last night and discussing children and how we who were jw kids had to sit still for three or four meetings a week and how that sort of self-discipline has its good points and bad points.. when we were talking about the meetings, she had to remind me that the meetings on thurs.

  Written Review--oh my god. Have I forgotten that too. What a great feeling thinking back of those days and feeling the incredible relief to be done with all that. GOD--how lucky are we--how very lucky.

  I have thought about this many times--to just endure the meetings--get reinstated so as to speak with me family again and be there to help others that are confused and want out, but there's no easy way to do this, I think. Is it still about 6 months. Maybe you can write a letter of request after a couple of months. I think it might be worth the sacrifice for someone in your situation with so many family members. Let me know what you decide.

  Why don't people put anyting in ther bio????

  was just looking at the depression post and looking at pepole's biography.. why doesn't a lot of members put anything in there bio.. i undersatnd that many may not want to be identified, but i think bio makes it easier for us to undersand each others history.

  Was it worth meeting with the judicial committee?

  for those of you who met with a judicial committee and were subsequently da'd or df'd, was it worth the time and effort?

  did the elders let you speak your piece, or were they only interested in hearing that key word or phrase that would allow them to act?

  was there genuine interest shown, proboing questions asked, did they really want to know how you felt?

  Explaining Christmas to My 10 Year Old Daughter...

  i was talking with my daughter yesterday about the memorial.

  it falls on my day with her and i previously noticed that christmas falls on her dad's day with her this year.

  i have never had any problem with my daughter attending the memorial with her dad on my day but he has had her the past 2 years for christmas and he has issues with me having her for christmas on his day.

  How the WT/Awake! are just journals written by men. They are not inspired by God. They are merely the opinions of men. Only the Bible is inspired by God. And I want to share some scriptures showing how anything beyond the Bible is man's word and not God's.

  Very interesting that We, as xjw's are so used to having to quote scripture and prove whatever it is we need to prove, but why not go light. Christmas is fun for many. It just feels great. It makes people happy, families use this as a time to get together, etc, etc, etc. Your daughter seems very bright and I think she will figure out sooner or later that even the bible is Man's word, not Gods. God doesn't write books--men do. They need the money, God doesn't. I think God can talk to us in many ways---through our feelings, happy, peaceful thoughts. There are many ways God can communicate with us besides using words, especially words in a book. Stretch even furthur now and go beyond the Bible, then you're truly free.

  You cannot be a true friend as a witness. You have too many restrictions. You can't have an independent thought so how can you really love. Once u enter the cult and give your soul away, you can no longer be a real friend. So I disagree with you-- Gumby. They know exactly what the score is and in their heart, they agree to abide by it. They were never your friends, they couldn't be. Robots are incapable of loving. It may look like, feel like, walk like friendship, but it's just an illusion. The Robots are programed to love with very detailed rules as to when, where and how. The very nature and meaning of being a JW goes contrary to being true friend,.
