Can you be D/F in absentia?

i've often wondered this.

since being inactive, i smoke and drink like a trouper, have gotten up to various sexual mis-endeavours (lol) and played up generally.

i'm not all that proud of any of this, just the way my life has gone.

Yeah although I have been out for a number of years now, my parents, brother and sister are still JW, my dad is the PO of the congregation.

When I was DF'd 2nd time around I was 18, and moved out of home and got my own place shortly after.

I remember being at my parents home not long after being DF, talking to my sister, my Dad walked in, saw me talking, and boomed "What's this happy families?" and stormed off, chance would be a fine thing eh.

Whilst I wouldn't say I am completely cut off from them, but my contact with my parents is merely a token thing, my sister and her husband however, are a little less narrow minded, and I am in contact with them still.

favourite games to play as a child during boring meetings

my parents were both very strict, and i wasn't allowed any toys at the hall.

my rations included a copy of my book of bible stories, and a pen and note pad.

my parents were strict to the point of not allowing me to draw pictures, i had to "take notes".

Now and again I remember one of the magazines would have a biblical crossword puzzle, and filling it in would pass a little time, filling it in slowly however passed even more time...

I did get told off for this, the P.O. spotted me during the WT study, and made it clear I should be paying attention, not filling in a crossword. I would have been about 14/15 at the time.

Round the back of the hall, in the car park area, there was a wall, with a drop of about 10 feet. There was a skip almost strategically placed, full of coils and springs from a company behind the hall, I remember three of four us jumping from that wall and being bounced back into the air, we would then sprint back round and slip back un-noticed.

I missed out on my grandfather

thanks to that damnable cult i missed the last few years of my grandfather's life.. he died last year.

he was a kind man.

I had the opposite, still wrong though.

My dads parents were not JW, whilst my mums were, so I only had any real contact a few months before I was DF'd at 18, my Grandfather passed away the night it was announced I was DF'd.

Kind and considerate, or calculated and cold ?

Were You A Pain In The Ass To The Elders??

Not for 17 years of my life, then yes, I was a pain in the ass, I even appealed the decision to disfellowship (1st time ahem), how I stood a fair re-trial eh ? A 17 year old questioning the decision of three elders, I really stood a chance didn't I ?

Who here still finds it hard to celebrate Christmas?

i was raised a jw and as i've probably said before, i left when i was around 18... i'll be 27 in a few days, and as i get older realise how i do not really know how to celebrate anything.

being raised a jw we never had xmas or birthdays (or any celebration), and since none of the friends i had when i left the jw's were christian either, i have to this day never celebrated it... i am not christian and will openly admit that i couldn't care less about the religious side of christmas, but what i see around me, everywhere in the world are people who aren't really christian either, celebrating christmas, either for kids or friends or whatever, but i've never done that or had anyone around me to do that with... people look forward to this time of year so much, they buzz and rush around like it's a real event, and to this day i've never been able to feel that way.

most of my christmas/birthdays since leaving jw's have been spent by myself, completely devoid of celebration, i want to get into that feel good spirit, but i don't know how, and if i try to fake it, i know it is fake.

It's an interesting question.

I have been DF'd since 18, and still find it hard to properly celebrate Christmas. Luckily for me my wife and kids are great with the decorations.

The fact that my youngest son looks forward to Santa's visit is a nice feeling. Something that although I never experienced a witness child, I can share.

Firstly, this is my 1st post, and I am sorry for bumping an old topic, but I was searching on yahoo for "disfellowshipped in absentia", and there you are, ranked number one in the results.

Ok, I was disfellowshipped in absentia when I was 18, I had actually turned up to meet the three elders, but they didn't show up themselves, they did try and contact me in the following days at home, but I refused to take the call, which was a noble thing to do, my dad was the P.O. and he had just picked up the phone.

Also, that was the 2nd time I had been disfellowshipped, the first time I was a regular pioneer, just out of pioneer school at 17, and sat through the announcement on the Thursday night, after appealing the decision, for being disfellowshipped for lying, following a sexual relation with a recently re-instated "sister", I was the one who approaced the elders about it, it was the first time I had ever had to approach the elders in my life, I was born into a Witness home, and basically my "story of events" differed to her "story of events", wow what memories.
