My brother was df'd when I was 5. Well years later when I was going to be turning 10 in november, my brother called me, he was 26 at this point. he asked me what toys I wanted. I rattled off a list to him. He showed up with everything on the list the week of my birthday. He always had a way of making me feel special. Then I saw the look on my mom's face and I felt guilty. m. shamalan's movie deals with a village of "amish" type people who are too scared to venture outside the village since their "elders' tell them the forrest is full of demons.
they refuse to be "part of the world" and all medical care.
it turns out the village is in a nature preserve in the 20th century but the elders had bad experiences in the world and made up the demons to scare the young villagers into never leaving!
I couldn't stop thinking about the JW's while watching the movie. Funny thing is a friend of mine who was never a JW... her first thought was JW's when she saw that movie.

I sure did want to participate but I convinced myself god didn't want me to. I'm glas I got out before my daughter was 9. She doesn't remember that she didn't celebrate before that.

The reason God doesn't make sense is because he is an idea made up by confused men.
when i was growing up in the borg i didn't see much in the way of craftmaking except for a few who knew how to sew.
no one that i knew at any of the halls i went to knitted or crocheted or tatted or did much in the needle arts other than sewing.
i was introduced to knitting by a "worldly" woman who was my brother's nurse.. maybe this is just something i noticed and is limited to my borg experience.. josie.

I know what you mean. My mother made a baby blanket for almost every baby in the hall. She got invited to all the baby showers. But she would get mad when after she gave the baby quilt gift they never invited over for dinner or associate in any way with her.
Well that taught me that I will only knit a gift for my friends, if they were friends before they knew I could knit.
