  Fruits of the Spirit

  i had a discussion today with a witnesse and was directing her toword this site and the qoutes site.

  i was thinking though of how the organization used to continually stress the developing of the fruitage of the spirit, i then was reading a book entitled "leaving the fold".

  an excellent book written by a doctor who delves into the psychological aspects of cults and religions not necessarilly pointed at just jw's but all such groups.

  Excellent summary Low Key. That about sums up how far off they are from the 'fruits of the spirit'.

  As for faith, I would have to question where their faith lies. In God and Christ or in a man run organization? From knowing the witness mindset and having oral debates with witnesses over this very subject, I can most certainly attest that their faith is misguided toword a central body of humans within a religion rather then rightly directed to Christ and his Father. Most witnesses I think fail to consciencly notice this fact but if one really looks they notice that the witness puts all his faith in the society rather then in their leader the Christ, a fact that even ones who have had minimal interaction with the witnesses could agree with.

  The large quantities that went out did not always produce results satisfying to Russell. Said he in 1903, “Good results have come—though far less than we hoped for them from the vast quantity of printed matter thus circulated.” He was constantly put to it to devise means by which the tracts could be used more effectively and with less waste. He advised against using them for colored people or Roman Catholics, believing them to be less intelligent or open-minded than white Protestants.

  
  

  
  
  I found this statement to be an eye opener as too how their was a definate prejudice prevalent in Russel. I find it hard to believe that a christian could think such ways when the scriptures warn us from developing such views of eliteness among our fellow humans. From what I read in thoese first three chapter he seemed like a decent person, although somewhat misguided and a bit arrogant in his self views. A definate difference from the mindset of Rutherford though, in which Rutherford most certainly ruled with an iron fist which clasped tighter and tighter around the Organization. Interesting how sects start out and can overtime develop into cult like organizations. Wouldn't mind reading this book if one could find it.

  Thanks for that explanation IP Sec. I know just how you feel, it makes me sick too to see them twist what is actually their to make it serve their purpose.

  I still fail to buy the watchtowers explanation, it's faulty as we cannont be compared to the pre christian nation of Israel, which existed under the law covenent. All people from Christ death onward are no longer under law but rather under Christ, or the new covenent. So in my view I can not see how they logically could synchronize such thinking. They essentially have re-instituted the Law covenent back on the majority of its membership that Christ diminished with his sacrificial death. And all christians are supposed to be equal, yet they have elevated themselves in a two tier system. Its too bad people can't see this when they subject themselves to such false reasonings.

  does anyone realy know how many 144,000 are realy left?

  i have been talking to some friends of mine both in and out of the "cult".

  and the one thing that no one can come up with is how many of the socalled 144,000 are left, i would estamate there to be atleast 145,000 still kicking today.

  if any one out there know's of a number and not the number put in the watchtower, i mean realy do you belive all you read.

  It was interesting to view the photos of the existing governing body members. Sure not many of the original members left, almost a whole new face on the body. This shows embarressingly the faultiness of setting time dates and giving a meaning to the scriptures concerning 1935 that is simply not their.

  Perhaps if I'm invited to the memorial in 06, and decide to go (highly unlikely), I'll partake just to fu^k with em. That would be a lot of fun.

  You can try and it would be interesting to see the expressions on everyones face, but highly unlikely that they would record or take it serious especially if one is not a regular attender. Ticker

  Question about Christmas

  ok, i'm fairly new here and to the whole mess that is the realm of jws and the wts, introduced to this odd world because i'm dating an inactive jw (that's a whole other ball of wax, check out my other topic on this - http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/20/101985/1.ashx), but i've been doing some research and there's one question that's been really bugging me.. jws don't celebrate christmas, i think we all get that.

  they say that christmas is pagan and therefore satanic and all of that, so they've banned the celebration of christmas (among other christian holidays).

  i figured that it had been like this since the beginning of the wts back in the 1870s, but i've found references to articles published in the watchtower magazines in the early part of the 20th century that state that christmas is a good time of year, that giving and charity and all of these things that come with the christmas season are good and that celebrating christmas is a good thing.

  I agree with Blondie I believe it was an alienation tactic used by Rutherford. Not only did it distance him and the Organization from Russel but it also alienated the Society from Orthadox Christianity, thus effective in keeping converts restrained with its walls.

She discussed the fruits of the spirit and gifts of the spirit and it got me thinking.
  

  
  
  How can it make any sence for a JW according to the official societys teachings to ever develop the 'fruitage of the spirit' when they also teach that only the annointed recieve the holy spirit? How can the average witness ever hope to attain any fruitage or gift of the spirit according to their teachings if they are repeatedly told they are not of the covenent with Christ, and thus recieve no holy spirit? Does not one have to recieve the holy spirit to ever develop its qualities in ones self? This too me seems like another Watchtower twist on scriptures that leaves it confusing when it is molded to fit Watchtower doctrine. Does this not seem like a contridiction within their very teaching? Any thoughts appreciated and hope the questions are clear enough.

  While You Were A JW, What Things Struck You To Raise Your Eyebrows?

  i'll never forget the time the circuit and district overseers told the elders that from now on the elders would be solely responsible for all judicial matters and that if anyone was going to get sued, it was not going to be the society.

  at that point, the 2 overseers laughed outloud.

  i knew we were going to get screwed for sure because the watchtower society was already setting us up.

  The huge waste of time, resources, and money at the Rosenburg ass hall in Texas. I knew a bro that resigned from the commitee there because of it.

  I was just interested in information about this hall. What happened that made one come to regard it as a waste of time, money, etc.. I never did here any information about it that I can recall, is their a thread on it? Thanks for any info. Ticker
