i've just felt so touched at the heart by those of you who responded with such loving interest yesterday.

Gopher, TY for that quote. Is it no wonder the WTS and other religions have such an easy time hiding criminals in their midst. That quote shows the arrogance of the law enforcement agencies, namely that they think they do their jobs perfectly all the time. The NERVE of the prosecutor to tell the priest that he would be violating Church law in disclosing that confession.
What about GOD's LAW????

Sorry to hear of your turmoil. Dont feel that you will dishonor Jehovah by seeking therapy from a professional. Jehovah desires you to be happy. As you stated, the elders correctly told you that they are not qualified to help you in this area. After all, you wouldnt hire a plumber to fix an electrical problem.
Also, since you are feeling that your problems are of a spiritual nature(doubts and all), speaking to your elders at this time may NOT be a wise thing, as you correctly stated,

A good counselor will help you face your "demons"(psychobabble for "what ails ya"-not evil spirit creatures) without the guilt you are feeling, and will let YOU decide what to do with it.

i gather that most on this forum would agree that jehovah's witneeses do not have the truth they cliam to have.. but to what degree do we inform friends and relatives who are still belivers of this.. for many (assuming they come to the same conclution) it would come as a relief , but for others could it do more harm than good?.
for instance an elder in my hall recently died from cancer which he had suffered from for about a year.. what kept him going and happy through pain and suffering was the belief that he was in the true religion favored by god and would recieve a resurection.. imagine the heart break he would had suffered if people had convinced him that the society was a sham.. imagine others say like my parents who are in their 50's and have no pension who look forward to the future paradise.. would it be right for me to covince them that thier dreams for for future are all flawed.. i am still in my 20's and i'm not the type to get depreesed and all that, but i have to admit to being gutted when the truth dawned on me that all my hopeds and beliefs were likely wrong.. but can we be certain to such an absolute degree that all that witnesses belive is false?.
do we really have the right to preach with coviction to others that they are wrong, just like we preached when we belived?.

In all these comments, no one is saying to leave or give up their belief in GOD. The whole point is, whether or not to disclose info about a religious fraud.
I do believe it is a harder decison to provide such info to elderly ones in the Org, tho. Altho I didnt have the enlightment about the WTS when I was first DF'd as I do now, I knew I wasnt going back. But the last my Dad told my mom as he lay dying of cancer was that he wished he could live long enough to see me reinstated. That broke my heart. Naturally, if I'd had the info I have now, it would have served no purpose to disclose it to him.

I believe that providing information about the WTS and letting people make their own decision is the way to go.
Who knows if the WTS will EVER change significantly. Perhaps if they are hit hard enough in the pocketbook. The R&F are a major source of $$. Even this may not be enough.
Since you made the statement about your parents having no pension, let me ask you this:
Suppose your parents had invested their life savings in a company which you found out was defrauding folks out of their $$. Would you not bring this to their attention so they could get their $$ out, reinvest in a reputable company, and therefore have some financial freedom in their GOLDEN YEARS?
Likewise, millions have invested their lives in the WTS whose so-called "TRUTH" is just the opposite. They are being defrauded of their lives by being brainwashed into nothing more than drones.
Freedom only comes with the ability to look at the facts, and make an informed decision.

Thanx for revisiting the original article. I do believe the judge saw the KIDS as victims, rather than the women, as continued irresponsibility by this man (term used extremely liberally) would only serve to further affect his children in a negative way.
However, I understand the points you have been trying to make. The author said as much when she stated that women basically have more choices when it comes to deciding whether or not to bear children. Of course the ultimate choice is to protect onesself if children are not desired, but if BOTH adults fail along those lines, then women have ALL the choices and men have NONE.

I didnt mean for this to become a "who's right-or-wrong" when it comes to child support...LoL. That issue has to be decided in favor of innocent children.
I did, however see a dangerous precedent being set tho in a court deciding who should bear children. I saw another good point on this issue today. Suppose a poor couple, whose religion forbade contraception and abortion, had 9 kids, and barely the means to support them? Would mommy and daddy go to jail?
