when i was still a jw, i hated gossip.

What effect did the gossip mill have on your attempt to go back?

The gossip mill is what made me wanted to leave in the first place.

Did you find out there were stories circulating that had no truth in them whatsoever?

Never DFed but I was still the victim of gossip. Here's some of the rumors spread about me:

When my husband and I eloped, everyone thought I was pregnant.
My brother spread a rumor that I correspond regularly with Ray Franz
I was blamed for other relatives leaving the "truth", even though these people only contacted me after they decided to leave
I was blamed for corrupting the minds of my nieces and nephew
That my mother kicked me out of her house when I was in town for my grandmother's funeral - the truth is my mother was physically and emotionally abusive to me as a child and I had no intentions of staying at her house

My husband had the following lies spread about him:

He was the reason I quit going to meetings
When he left his ex-wife after she cheated on him with 2 different guys, her family claimed that they were divorcing because my husband was abusive - my husband doesn't have an abusive bone in his body
When we moved out of state because of his job, they spread rumors that he was a bad father

If you never went back have you found out about the rumors about you and what you supposedly did?

My husband and I are related to so many JWs that they can't say anything without us finding out about it.

My Dad died this evening

i thought i would let you know that my dad, passed away a little while ago, tonight, january 23. they called me at 6pm to tell me.

he had been failing rapidly for the past month, and had completely lost his hearing and was totally blind.

the dementia was extreme too, and he still knew me on thursday, but didn't wake up to know me in the following days.

the "freeloader" pioneer sister who lives with us asked me this morning if she could "look" up something real quick on my laptop.

i was not prepared for this and quickly told her the system was down and i would let her use it later.

how do i get rid of all the recent sites box that you can scroll down to.

To keep Internet Explorer from filling out forms, go to

Tools ----> Internet options ------> Click the Content Tab --------> Click the AutoComplete Button -----> Clear all the checked boxes -------> Click clear forms ----> click clear passwords (make sure you have your passwords written down before you do this)

Generation Change

i left the org slightly before the change in the "generation that was alive in 1914" thing was announced and wondered, what were peoples in the congregations reactions after this was announced and did it you notice people falling away because of it?

has it had a damaging effect?

I was beginning to fade before the generation change mainly because of the lack of love and all the legalism. Once the generation change took place, my husband and I never went back except for an appearance or two at the Memorial for his mother's sake.

The generation of 1914 was beat into my head since I was a child. 1914 is what made it the "truth" and what made the FDS God's sole channel. Taking that away just made them liars and false prophets.

I would say that about 75% of the kids I grew up with left the WT. I doubt they left solely because of the generation change but I'm sure the change just cemented any doubts they had.

do you like being alone most of the time?

i don't know if it's due to the fact that i don't have many friends, but i get along fine all alone.

just posting here i don't feel alone.. .

What a social butterfly! Your answers showed that you like being with people, and don't often get the urge to be alone. Your outgoing nature has likely helped you form many meaningful relationships and brought great experiences in to your life. Make sure, however, that you're able to be happy on your own. While it's wonderful to be social, it's also not healthy to depend too much on others for your happiness. If you always need to be with other people to enjoy yourself, consider breaking away from the pack from time to time and doing some stuff alone. Even if it feels a bit strange at first, you'll surely find it grows on you. Then, when you come together with the people who matter most to you, you'll have interesting things to contribute to the conversation.

does anyone know where the article is in the awake that says birthdays are a conscience matter?

and there is the spiritual aspect, where the Creator of life is taken into account. The manner in which a Christian would deal with having a baby shower would put emphasis on the sacredness of life.

I was a JW for over 20 years and in all that time I have never been to a JW baby shower where Jehovah or the sacredness of life was mentioned. It was always a typical fun event with presents, games, food and cake.
