Just to expand a little on the short but to the point post I did... I'm hearing more and more people ask this question. Everybody should follow the ten commandments and everything would be better or, if everybody follows the bible the world will be better (Mostly from my JW parents eh) but throughout history it has been proven that following these concepts does not bring about world peace.
It's like this, almost every concept is perfect. The concept of democracy is pretty much perfect if everything falls into the right place. Communism is perfect if everything falls into the right place without anybody questioning or doing anything opposite. But the Human aspect of these concepts muck everything up. Communism usually tears down the health and well being of it's occupents. This democractic Republic we live in does not work flawlessly since we have leaders that, once their elected, have too much freedom to do whatever they want without caring about popular opinion.
The ten Commandments and whatnot just won't work because we will need people to enforce it no? There will always be "defects" from this Ten Commandment concept so we will need to make more concepts on how to enforce it, and even more concepts on the interpretations of them. Sure it would be nice if people didn't kill their neighbor and whatnot, but social pressures just won't allow that. So rather than just giving off commands that the average 10 year old can come up with, how about we find out a way to really educate people from natural positions that have a hard time proving false or having doubts with.

Life is the most meaningful thing possible. I find it amazing how many people talk about life being meaningless without God. I can not believe a somewhat competent human being will just step on all the things human beings have to be thankful for. They are calling love meaningless, they are calling art meaningless, they are calling themselves meaningless. I just never understood that.

The part I hated most was the Obey the father because he is the head and he owns you nonesense. The mother and the daughter came back from getting a dress that was somewhat short. And of course the submissive (I cant make a decision on my own) mom was like, "Oh that's a nice dress, and it was cheap too DUUR!!" Then the father talked to them for a minute and they immediately changed their minds and praised jehovah for it. Sheesh, the GB acts like people really have arguments like this. What if it was the man doing that and he wouldn't change his mind since he's the head?

Intellectual starvation among JWs
by zagor inwanted to write another topic entirely, but after quite some thinking i thought that one particular topic should be addressed.
especially, for people still feeling confused.
we often wonder why so many dubs looks like zombies, why it is hard to make them see the real truth about the truth, why cant they discuss any topic in depth without resorting to reasoning book or other wtbs literature, why it is that they are so easily manipulated, why it is that they are filled with apostate state of mind fears (fearing to question anything), why, why, why?

The thing that helped me break this even though I studied philosophy a bit and started to critically think on my own, was one of my online friends saying, "You won't believe how much there is out there in the world" (paraphrased) and even though I knew the JW's were crap i still believed that there wasnt much else out there. But the way i somewhat overcame that was just keeping her words in my head while i researched. And Ive never learned so much.
When you just think about it... you can spend your whole life researching a small country, every second of the day and never learn everything about that country. Now that's just one country... theres plenty of countries and theres even more subjects than countries and even more subtopics than those subjects. It's amazing. And this is just academic, let's not even get into emotions, feelings, personal philosophy, fitness, and a plethora of other things. Sheesh I can't believe how the JW's can say theres nothing for you in this world. That's just ignorance. I'd die of old age before I could finish all the good things in this world. -

Hibs is hilarious. I wonder if she will acknowledge herself being wrong or just go on another baseless claim like she has done many times before.

JW kids who are currently in college LOVED the convention drama!
by urbanized inhere's a transcript of a post about the 2005 godly obedience convention (which i read about on this board and seemed to highlight a drama in which a biblical story was highly distorted in order to discourage higher education) from a jw youth group on www.myspace.com.

That's how the brainwashing works. You'll be shunned, not loved by jehovah, a plain bad immoral person if you don't agree. First you won't think it was all that great (if you're ignorant about the truth about the truth) then you hear all these people talk about how great it was then they ask you and everybody looks at you intently to see what you say (I got this at lunch after the DC, God it was freaky) and of course you have to say it was good. And of course if you tell yourself something long enough you're bound to start believing it. Add a little family pressure and constant talks about how bad this world is and you got a cult member. Saying how great something is.
My sister's in freakin college too and she cried during it. It was obviously anti-college yet dunno, people like to hear what they wanna hear. -

I think most people here know what light years are. And I'm sorry for this statement but in an argument it doesn't really matter what you believe. It doesn't make it fact, this is a characteristic of a person who's making a claim before accumulating the evidence. A serious logical fallacy.

Ingrained Belief Systems.

that is something that many people are not willing or able to do.
at least not quickly or easily, if not at all.

Facing your fears is one of the greatest tools for advancement. Many fears are totally unfounded, face them and attack them with everything you can and you will see the fear as what it is.
