Exchange of Literature between God's Organization and Babylon The Great

i read a similar thread concerning scars that a boy got from and alligator and from his loving mother and how that was related to scars in our life from satan and god (jehovah).

reading this and other threads here that shows how witnesses use material from "babylon the great" for spiritual uplifting made me think of an couple of experiences my wife shared with me during her field service.. .

one experience was when she was out in service with her dad.

There was actually a sister in my home congregation that would accept religious literature when householders offered it to her, reasoning that she couldn't expect people to take her literature if she didn't take their's. She once even referenced L. Ron Hubbard's Dianetics in a comment during the WT study. Thankfully most of the uneducated JWs in our small rural cong had no clue as to what she was quoting. She caught a lot of hell for trading literature from the elders and others, but she remains an active witness. She's actually quite a cool person and I like her more now that I'm not witness than I did when I was witnes---and I liked her a lot back then.

And even though it's totally unrelated and she was old enough to be my mom, she was a very attractive woman :)

Getting my GED so I can go to college

i've been trying to get my ged for a few months now.

i bought some books and have been working through them on my own.

i came to a road block working on my own, and i decided to go for free classes offered by my local school district.

Good for you Noni; this is really awesome. Don't worry about being a little weak in math skills. I dropped out of high school to pioneer. A few years later an elder and his wife helped me get my GED and encouraged me to go to college. Even though I didn't finish my degree then, I went back a few years later. I'll graduate this coming May and will be going to grad school next fall-- despite being a little weak in math :)

It's all gonna work out for you because you're doing the right thing. Way to go!

I was actually contacted by two people in the last few weeks who recognized me from my past posts. On the one hand it made me realize that I perhaps be more discreet in my postings, but on the other hand it was really really great to hear from both of them and to learn that they've both come to realize the truth about "the truth."

Jehovah's Witnesses on Facebook

i am surprised how many active jws there are on facebook.. has the society ever put anything in print discouraging facebook in particular?

would someone on facebook be viewed as "weak spiritually"?.

was facebook named in outlines of convention talks?

I've seen many active witnesses with facebook profiles. I've also noticed that most Witnesses have locked their's recently. I've also noticed that some Witnesses, such as my aunt, closed down their facebook profiles that included witness and non-witness friends and then set up seperate witness and non-witness pages.

I actually do have a few active witnesses on my friends list. Some are family members and others are just Witnesses that have sent friend requests to me. One "sister" from my home congregation and I converse fairly frequently---but she's always been a bit of an independent thinker, a trait that made me dislike her when I was a Witness, but that makes me happy and gives me hope now.

Is the WTBTS mistaken or deceptive?

when i look back at history, i see the great lengths people have gone to, to prove their devotion to god and to carry out what they though to be his will.. do you think the watchtower organization is truly trying to deceive people and cover things up or do you think they are honestly misguided or mistaken in some of their beliefs and policies ?

if so, what purpose would they have for doing this?.

The Watchtower Society is deceptive. Many, maybe most, individual Witnesses are simple mistaken. I'm not sure that any individual since Rutherford has truly gotten wealthy off his leadership with the WTBTS, but power and control over the lives of millions of people is a strong incentive to keep your subjects in the dark.

Are the Watchtower numbers right for membership?

according to what appeared in written newspapers and that we can add up, the real number of people who assisted the summer district assemblies in the province of quebec, canada is : 13 500.. .

assembly at quebec city: 7000.

1st assembly at sherbrooke : 3500.

A number of witnesses from western Quebec would attend the conventions in neighboring Cornwall, ON where four conventions were held with expected attendance of 16000.

Inactive = D/F in 3 Years

is it true that there is a now policy that if you are inactive and not attending meetings that after three years you will be d/f'd?

i have a friend who is very concerned that this is now policy.

can any shed some light?.

This is not the policy. If it is it is not enforced. At one time I was a ministerial servant and pioneer. I was disfellowshipped, then reinstated and then quit attending a couple of years later. I have been inactive for about 8 years. I have been openly gay for 7 years. I am in regular contact with a number of witness relatives, including my uncle who is an elder in the city where I live. I occasionally (very occasionally) go to the Sunday meeting in my hometown, where I am always warmly greeted and made very welcome. I recognize that the elders in the last congregation I was associated with are just lazy and probably consider any dealings with me to be a waste of time, but the elders in my hometown and in the city where I currently live are under the impression that because I was inactive for a period of time before I took up "wrongdoing" and no longer consider myself to be or present myself as a witness, there is no need to take judicial action.

i ran into a jw lady i have known most of my life a couple of weeks ago.. she told me that she had left her non jw abusive husband and that she was still very upset about all that had happened.. the elders had been 'visiting' her.

infact visiting is probably the wrong word and should be replaced with harrassing.. they kept telling her that 'jehovah hates a divorcing!

' she said that they wanted her to go back to her abusive husband as she should not have married a non jw in the first place.

I love the reasoning "you shouldn't have married out of the truth in the first place"

My mom was once asked by the P.O. "what did you expect to happen when you married out of the truth?" This was over 25 years after the wedding day.

My mom stayed. Eventually quit going to meetings. Dad got help for his probs and their marriage is better now than ever. However, I have seen so many sisters stay and put up with so much abuse. It is very sad. Your friend should leave and stay gone..from the husband and the org. Continue to be there for her.

It is not that uncommon for witnesses to use old meeting halls, union halls, churches. etc as Kingdom Halls. I know of at least a couple of Kingdom Halls here in the US that were formerly churches, and it is quite a common practice in Europe. And I know of a lot of former halls that are now churches. The fact that witnesses used an old masonic hall is not proof of any sort of collusion.

What bugs me the most about this article is that Witnesses put over a million dolllars into this bldg..so why is it being sold?? And, no doubt, after putting that much into it, the proceeds from the sale went to the WTBS, with the local witnesses again having to come up with the funds for their new hall...what a scam!
