last april, my mom passed away from pancreatic cancer.
she was still a very active witness until the day she died as is the rest of my family.
Personally, I want a Requiem Mass when I'm dead (listen to Mozart's requiem, you'll see why).
As for JW funerals, I've only seen the peddling to a certain extent; however, there are some people who used the dead person's life as a way of peddling, which I'm sure that the dead person wouldn't have minded.

If a language properly conveys its meaning, then it can be considered valid. i'm wondering what the funniest thing you ever saw at the memorial was?.
for me it was when one of the mentally ill ladies in the congregation came to the kh with the back of her dress cut out because she said she was telling the demons to kiss her butt.. she walked right up to the front row, past everyone and sat down.. there were brothers running to block everyones view but it was quite clear that she was not even wearing undies.. this particular sister was always talking about the demons.
Nothing except for COMPLETE BOREDOM. My brain starts to die just thinking it.
i was just wondering if there was anyone else out there whose "friends" came to the elders and told them a bunch of fabricated crap about you before your "meeting with the elders.

" i had also been known to "host seances" in my parent's basement.
Y'know, since these elders meetings are more like ecclesiastic courts, you'd think that you should get an ecclesiastic lawyer to represent. Unfortuantely, this doesn't happen and they don't want it to happen since they don't want the actual truth to get out. It's all about politics and power... for some people.
What are the libel laws like in the States? Perhaps you should complain to the police that they are harassing you, perhaps that would shut them up.
PS: Don't necessarily listen to my advice, as I don't make good decisions all the time.

This article has one major thing in common with JW publications: no proof (ie., citations). All this is is hearsay.
If inter-galatic aliens wished to introduce themselves to humanity, I think they would've been able to overcome the various 'secret' agencies of Earth. But if there really are aliens conducting secret anal probings and spying on us, who cares? I'm not a redneck.

Though you would need archaeological evidence of crucifixtions from that period to be 'sure.' However, considering that the sign of the cross began as a private devotion in the 2nd cenutry AD, it would seem more than probable that it was a cross rather than an upright stake.
since i stopped being a jw i haven't prayed.
so the other day i went to supper at my parent's house who are still jw's, and they prayed before we ate.
it was a very strange feeling, and it stirred up alot of weird feelings.

Since most drive around in cheap, gas guzzling automobiles, I'd say absolutely not. Of course most probably would'nt be able to afford an efficient car.

i was both perplexed and unsettled tonight at the hall.. the second last part of the service meeting, the brother started reading a report from hq regarding the tsunami and jw deaths.. indo, there were no jw's living there so no deaths ( other than possible holiday makers ).
phuket, there were no jw's living there so no deaths.
so and so a place, same as above.... some other place ( sorry for forgetting i was almost asleep ), 1 jw death as well as a few inactive jw deaths.. luckily it was then mentioned, all jw's ( except the 1 above plus inactive ) were at the meeting which was on high ground so they didnt die ( implying that being at the meeting saved them ), but their huts were completely distroyed.
Seems that their bible lost that pesky little part about the Good Samaritan.
