New songbook? ...It's about time.
by truth_about_the_truth ini saw this on another thread that there are rumours of a new songbook announced at the dc.
i hope they get rid of all those "heav'ns", "giv'n", "tho", "e'en", "vivacious", "efficacious" lyrics.
with thise lyrics you can party like it's 1899.. also, please get rid of that song that sounds like the warner bros. bugs bunny song.

That songbook has to be the most annoying thing ever. Its like a book full of jingles. It lacks.... DIGNITY and CLASS. I suppose most JW events, buildings, and books lack those anyways.

I live in Canada, I don't get lots of snow. In fact, the flowers are starting to bloom and it feels like we are on the verge of spring. :)

I Q
by stillajwexelder inalready got a thread on intelligence but any of you care to state what your measured iq is/was last time you checked 9had it checked)
-

I wouldn't trust online IQ tests as a measure of intelligence... for one thing, there's the guess factor. Theoretically, of all the questions you don't know, you have a 25%, more or less, chance of getting one correct. I've done 3 IQ tests: 169, 130, and 108. Personally, I'll trust the 108, but I never do good on online or practice tests anyway (e.g., on all my Math practice exams, I got around 86-92%, but on the Provincial Examination, I got 99% - go figure).

A question about baptism
by fairchild inthis might sound silly, but it is something that bothers me.. for the longest time i had the desire to be baptized as a jw.
recently, after joining this forum and doing a lot of reading around here, i have come to understand that there is a difference between being loyal to jehovah and being loyal to the wts.
if i don't join the wts, then i will never get baptized, but people in the bible clearly got baptized.

Heres what the Catholic Church says about baptism, which would make them believe that most Protestant baptisms are valid and real: "In case of necessity, any person, even someone not baptized, can baptize, if he has the required intention. The intention required is to will to do what the Church does when she baptizes, and to apply the Trinitarian baptismal formula. The Church finds the reason for this possibility in the universal saving will of God and the necessity of Baptism for salvation."

Lines lines and more lines
by truth_about_the_truth inon the train yesterday on the way home from work, i saw someone sitting in front of me reading a km.
apparently a sister studying for the service mtng.
the funny thing was that i noticed that she was underlining every word in the article she was studying.

My old philosophy/english prof. used to say that when the page was filled up with underlining or highlighting as you described, it means you aren't really reading or paying attention. I think its because there aren't much high level abstractions in the magazines, just fluff or real stretches of "logic."

What are Y O U talking about?
by robhic inexcuse me if this has been discussed before but i've been meaning to ask.
why is the word you or your always capitalized in the nwt?
) of the quotes i've seen always capitalize the words but i've never seen another bible do this.

We should all switch to the southern "y'all" to indicate second person plural. Likewise also y'all: reckon yourselves to be dead indeed with reference to sin but living with reference to God by Christ Jesus. Fits well with the "reckon."

Culture or the lack thereof
by Justin into belong to a culture is part of being human.
yet, jws and evangelicals are told to avoid being contaminated by the secular culture.
the evangelical movement, however, has created a subculture of its own.
-
the_classicist
No. I think the "Christian Music Industry" adds stress. To quote Bart Simpson: "All the best bands are affiliated with Satan." Can you imagine having your mind daily impailed by the sound of Christian rock... think of being a poor evangelical teenager, listening to songs that basically talk about Jesus as being the love of your life (almost in the eros sense). Anyways, most JWs take selectively from secular culture anyways, although there are a few uber-jws that view everything as "false-religion" or demonic.

Are the JWs ===THIS === Freaky ??
by Lampokey inif anyone perceives the jehovah's witnesses as a strange bunch , then please do take a look at this site:.
http://www.landoverbaptist.net.
regrettably, a condition of registration is that their beliefs are not to be questioned on the forums.. i will find a way around this by careful syntax .

Quote taken from site: "Believe on Jesus Christ and his Republican party and you will be saved!"
Just think that there are Americans you actually believe this
