What would you think if?

if a dud came to your door and said, we no longer shun ex members let's become friends again.

if the wt said the preaching work has ended.. if wt encouraged the members to vote in all elections.

may I suggest you do some research about the voting issue in France...aparently, the WTS does encourage witnesses to vote there (NY Times July 5 1998)

Where in the bible does it say this? Before I left the org, it was according to "scriptures" that witnesses were not allowed to receive or donate organs. 15 years later I discovered that ban was lifted. Who is to say that sometime soon the blood ban wont be lifted? There is no biblical basis for the ban, just like there was no basis for the ban on organ donation.
If the WT annouced it was okay to celebrate holidays.

They already are like any other religion and they already do follow the traditions of the Governing Body. Many years ago they did celebrate holidays, and I think that many still secretly do.

it's been a strong desire of mine for the 20 some odd years since i've beeb df'd.. what do you guys think?

should i go this year and make everyone's jaw drop??

any advice as to what i should say if i am interrogated?

JWS are a long way off when and if they describe themselves as christians....

My desire to partake is more of a shock thing. Over the years, even while my status of DF'd is well known and my "independent thinking" loud-assed mouth can be heard for miles, many JWS would knock at my door and give me an invite around the same time of the year. I saw them circling my block again this morning and I thought to myself 'it's about that time again.' My mom doesnt shun me, however, there has always been a certain distance between us since my DFing. She has been pestering me for 20 years to go to the Memorial, so in the back of my mind I want to give her something to talk about this year.

I still dont know if it is a good idea, but, hehehe, there is this side of me that would be giddy with amusement if I did!!

PS I am reminded now of the 1979 Memorial when a sis from my congregation "felt the urge" and ate the crackers and drank the wine. She spent 6 months at a psych facility after that incident!!! It was such a big big deal back then!!!

They probably did.

The Watchtower reported a gross earning of $951 million in 2000. My take on this is they are a huge real estate conglomerate, investing in properties because they know for a fact that the ROI (return on investment) will be grand, thanks to the average brainwashed JW who wholeheartedly believes that the "world wide publishing work" is just so important, and that Gawd frowns upon those who don't contribute (visualize the CO at an assembly saying this from the platform).

i couldnt help but think to myself "what a waste.

" i have family members and friends who are so talented and so gifted in many ways that i am not, yet they choose to remain witnesses.. even the small handfull that know its all a lie, still choose to remain that way.

tee hee hee.... aparently we were thinking the same thoughts today.....must be something in the water.

I also posted for the benefit of some family members of mine that I know lurk here....I hope sometime soon they will come "out" if we all prod them enough. That is why I like this forum; very often someone will come and post a really great topic refuting some of the most fundamental beliefs that the JWs have, sometimes with their own literature. I love it when those type of things just fly in their face!!

I had gotten a few minutes to myself this morning and I was looking through some old photo albums of my family and such. I couldnt help but think to myself "what a waste." I have family members and friends who are so talented and so gifted in many ways that I am not, yet they choose to remain Witnesses.

Even the small handfull that know its all a lie, still choose to remain that way. I have contact, despite being DFd over 20 years now, with the more open-minded family members, or so to speak. I ask them often why is it that they remain. I know for a fact that they lurk, sometimes even post messages in forums such as this one or H20, and often times they don't defend the WT on many issues. Yet they will never leave the Watchtower, not for a million $$$.

I remebered this morning while I was looking at some pictures that in fact, being a JW is an easy way to live. While I was a JW I could easily refuse certain types of responsibilities at school or at work because "its against my religion." I could cop out of having to buy christmas gifts or birthday stuff for that same reason. I could basically go thru life avoiding everyone and everything, if I chose to. I didn't have to be ambitious, goal-oriented or personable. Especially back in the heydays of 1975 I could almost drop out of mainstream society, like some of the folks who moved into the KH in my area circa 1973. I wouldn't have had to work, go to school, nada, just walk around town and pretend to be in field service.

I just hope that my friends and relatives, who I know are probably going to read this, wake up and smell the coffee. Yes it's easy alright to have someone think for you, but having experienced the glorious freedom of thinking and doing for yourself, I am so glad I am not in their shoes.

Worldly Husbands

larc has an interesting thread going about why jw men choose to date (and beyond) worldly women in lieu of dating the seemingly overbundant supply of 'horny' sisters available.

i recommend it.. it set me to thinking about yet another interesting phenomena in jwdom.

that is the situation where the jw woman has, as a husband, a 'non-believer'.

lol i know its not limited to jws, but I also think my auntie got to get her cake and eat it, if she missed any meetings because of hubbies no one was going to berate her over it, if she had to cook turkey for dinner at christmas she was just being wife in subjection,
to my mind she had choice of takin jw life home or leaving it behind when she left the kingdom hall.

OHHHHHH this is soooo trueeeeeee..........
I remember when my aunt, who was born and raised in the JW, strayed for a few years outside of the org, smoked, drank, etc. and when she finally "repented" she came back to the org but now with a hubby and one child. My mother urged her, pleaded with her that she MUST do everything possible to make her husband and child a JW before 1975 rolled around. One day I "accidentally overheard" (snicker) my aunt talking on the phone to one of her worldly friends and her exact words were "there is no way I'll let my son nor my husband become JWS, I like things as they are now, I can have my cake and eat it too ."
My uncle there made really good money, and my cousin basically grew up w/o any pressure to be a witness, but for my mom who kept insisting with my aunt that he should. Anyway, time went on and my cousin became a witness, threw dad's money around the hall, and these "sisters" threw themselves at him. He married a JW woman, but around my way he was notorious with the hookers and call-girls. Everytime my mom mentions my "good cousin Ralphy" it makes me want to puke. [8>]

My mother had major surgery on Jan. 4th. She needs at least 8-10 weeks bed rest. I had contacted one elder in her congregation to have, at least once a week, a sister come to my mother's house to help her do things so she wont overextend herself. He assured me, with his disapproving "I shouldn't be talking to your DF'd ass" look that this would be arranged. Well, as it turns out NOONE has shown up, and I KNOW there are some lazy motherf!!!!ng JWS that live right in the same goddam building as my mom, and they wont even check in on her!! But wait, that's not all. My 75 year old uncle had to come over to her apt. and do laundry, mop floors and cook!! He is not a witness!!! My mom does and has done for everyone, and I mean everyone in her damn congregation, but now that she need from them, noone helps??? HOW FUC*** UP!!!!

I could'nt believe my eyes!!

i was hanging around my mom's house yesterday, and i just happened to leaf through the january 8th afake!

magazine, about the wtc disaster.. no doubt that perhaps many of the sept. 11 experiences are real, but what i mostly read were these shameless advertisements for the watchtower complex in downtown brooklyn!!

i was appalled!!

I think that you make some valid points, however, as I was there personally, it wasnt just one building I checked out. I spent a good two hours in the area just trying to figure out a way to get into Manhattan; the cops would not let me across the Brooklyn bridge. I remember the residence that my sister stays in and the building where she works, those were actually the two first places I went to (right off of Jay street) and the buildings were locked . I know that JWs aren't that easy to spot, like you said, they dont dress like Amish people, however, that's not the point. My point is that the articles just shamelessly drew unnecessary and exaggerated attention to the Watchtower building up on Columbia street, when in fact, that street was completely blocked off, and noone
other than NYPD was in sight!

PS SF, Please email me, I am in fact interested in talking to some reporters about what I saw. The old contacts I had with the Mayor's office are, well, some of them perished with the towers and some I lost touch with because they moved from NYC. Well anyway, just drop me a line.
