Mention of Jehovah's Witnesses in popular entertainment

i don't know if this thread has been done before, but can anybody think of times that jehovah's witnesses were made mention of or joked about in music, tv, or movies?

for example,there are a couple of simpsons episodes, one were marge alludes to being so desperate for company that jehovah's witnesses ran away when she went to get them more lemonade.

another time, two jw's approach the simpsons' house and one turns to the other just before ringing the doorbell and asks "ruby, do you ever think we should get real jobs?".

My son just reminded me of the one in the movie "Airplane" where the captain is walking thru the airport and someone offers him a Watchtower--I think he punches him!

i thought it would be fun to find out information that you think we would not know about the area that you live in.

last night on the news i learned that london has been closing its pubs at 11 p.m. and they are about to change that(i didnt know that before)

i live in the south (usa) and heres some things that you might find interesting:

i remember this big family in my old hall that i grew up in the late 70s and there was a young brother that was very good looking and all the young sisters in the hall wanted to date him.

i was about 13 or 14 at the time and did not know much about gays and lesbians but somehow i felt this young brother was gay.

i just could not put my finger on it but just minded my own business.

Elder-speak....How do they manipulate us?

can you help me build a glossary of elder-speak?

you know, those phrases and arguments designed to appease, coerce, or guilt congregation members in to a desired course.

by exposing elder-speak, i hope to reduce the power of the words.

This remark was directed at me after not attending meetings for awhile: "It's so nice to see you here as a family." I guess if I am not attending meetings that we are no longer a family! If my family is blown apart it is because of my hypocrit husband who looks so good when he is at the meetings!

Do you know of any "baptized" JW's single sisters that got "pregnant"?

i was just curious about this question.

when i was a jw i remember a young baptized sister that got pregnant and she was unmarried.

i was waiting for the elders to either disfellowship her or reprove her but nothing happened to her.

I remember a girl who had been studying and coming to meetings for quite awhile. She always wore tight clothes and pranced up the aisle to her seat. Well, she started wearing the same dress to every meeting--not maternity but not like the tight stuff she usually wore. I remember thinking that she looked pregnant and mentioned it to the one who studied with her--got chewed out for that!

I was right--she was pregnant by a brother! She also made it very obvious that she had a thing for my husband--SLUT!
