Brotherly love in action ?
by lancelink inkind of a strange experience here, maybe someone can make me see what's going on.
my parents live in another state, to visit them would require at least a 22 hour drive, no trains, .
planes are fine but since the airport is in the middle of nowhere tickets are getting quite costly ($$$$$$.

Oh, one sister was being paid to clean their house and it got back to me that she was insinuating to sisters in a car group that she was being taken advantage of. I told the sister that related this to me that it wasn't true--she was being paid! Funny thing--one of my in-laws neighbors told us several times she would only stay at their house for 1/2 hour. I guess she was a dishonest pioneer! Imagine that!

Similar situation with my in-laws. They went to the same congregation for at least 40 years-contributed much and helped ones at the hall that needed money--but they were not to be found when we needed help taking care of them! Some helped but expected to be paid.
We were even told to move them by us so that we could take better care of them--they did not want to leave their town.

Stupidest thing a JW ever told you
by Nosferatu inwhat is the stupidest thing a jw ever told you?
we all know that they say a lot of stupid things, but what really topped the cake?.
for me, it was an elder telling me i was progressing really well when my meeting attendance was down and my field service hours were slipping.

"If you miss the Sunday meeting, then you shouldn't go to the congregation picnic that afternoon!" (from an elder)
I also remember my husband telling my son if he didn't go to the Sunday meeting, he couldn't do anything the rest of the day! I let him have it for that statement!

Have you ever seen someone else abort a fade?
by Mickey mouse inthinking back i've seen a couple of examples of brothers who have almost slipped out of the organization.
stopped attending meetings for months, inactive in field service and then come back with a vengeance.
in the two particular cases i'm thinking of both came back as real company men and have risen through the ranks to levels they previously hadn't attained.. i sometimes wonder whether they were consciously struggling with apostasy and chose for whatever reason to plunge back into the organization?

I remember a couple who stopped going to meeting for close to two years back in the 80's. They came back and have been at meetings ever since. I always wondered what happened.

Do You Think Jehovah's Witnesses Are Truly Happy?
by StAnn ini've been wondering about this a lot lately.
when i was a jw, i was always miserable because i was so busy trying to keep up with everyone else, i.e., field service hours, dressing appropriately, having the right attitude, feeling guilty about desiring things not approved by the wts, such as an education.
my own experience as a jw was so filled with unhappiness that it never occurred to me that anybody in the wts could actually be happy and have a joyful life.

I think they spend a lot of time trying to convince themselves that they are happy. I never felt like I was good enough, yet I claimed to be happy.

How Many Here Still Attend Meetings Sometimes?
by shamus100 in?
if so, how often.. do you still attend the memorial?.
i never go, ever, and haven't been to a memorial in about 6 years (been too long to accurately remember) - i'm too far gone.

Skipped the memorial the past two years and haven't been to a meeting in almost 3 years. Sometimes I think about going and then I slap myself!

The problem is that medical technology keeps advancing, so those people are living longer and longer. But we're sooo close to the end now.
This statement is soooo freakin' funny and sad at the same time!
