I remember when I used to play football with them. Once this guy got hit so hard at a football game after the meeting that he was taken to the hospital for a concussion. After that the elders banned playing football between congregations and they even gave a local needs talk about it. I remember playing basketball against some of the elders and when they would guard me I would bump them back into the lane real hard to back them up and enjoy while doing that. It was the only time when roug physical play was allowed with the elders playing and I made sure they felt it. When playing football we usually made teams pitting congregations against each other, so we would always pride ourselves in who would hit the brother from the other congregation the hardest.

Sport: bringing out the worst in JWs
by Pleasuredome inin my time involved with the jws, i used to play a lot of football nearly every week with the bros. i used to find it amazing and laughable how some, including elders, would start name calling and getting aggresive, sometimes to the point of making threats.
it made me realise that football and other sports can show the true character of individuals.
has anyone here experienced things like this when playing sports with jws?

Michael Jackson at Memorial again
by startingover in.
after reading this i'm certain he did attend.

G Money how can you confirm that he was at the Memorial and Sunday meeting? Nowhere in those articles its mentioned that he attended. Of course you are going to hear people say that they saw Michael Jackson at the meetings. I went to this past Sundays meeting and I saw Shaquille Oneal, and he sat right next to me (sarcasm). Anyways what is the big hang up with having Michael Jackson attending meetings and such?

violent videogames and kids
by doogie ini didn't want to hijack the thread about videogames at bethel, so i thought i'd start another.the indiscriminate killing of policemen, the ability to kill prostitutes as well as ordinary citizens, the drug culture that is reflected in san andreas, these are all things that the young ones in my community strive for, they look up to the thug, the pimp, the hustlers who sling rock in my community.
theses are not the things i would want my child to concentrate his attention on.
the language is absolutely deplorable, and theres more to come.

While I agree that these video games very violent, they are not intended for teenagers or kids. They clearly state that on the box before you buy it. They are intended for adults, rated Mature. Now if a place like Walmart allowed teenagers to buy a Mature game then they should be fined just like a theatre would be fined if they would let teenagers in a Rated R movie. Why put the blame on the creators of the game? Instead the blame should be put at the parents that allow their teenage kids to play these types of game. Now, I have played all kinds of games including Halo and GTA and I don't feel the need to go out and start shooting cops or anyone for that matter. I think that the problem boils down to parenting, why are we so fast to blame everyone else when it should start with responsible parents. If the government starts banning everything why stop with violent video games? Why not continue on to ban violent books and violent sports? Heck why not ban the bible, as we all know there are explicit stories in the bible about violence.

why dont KH have windows?
by Buck inis this to save money?
thats the only reason i can think of.
-
R6Laser
It depends the location of the KH. When I was in Puerto Rico all KH had windows and all the windows were open during meetings. When I moved to the US I noticed that there were no windows at the KH, but why would you need any in a hall were there is air conditioning during the summer and heat during winter.

Who was told that the New order would be here before......................

etc and what year were you told?.

I was told by the elders in my congregation that I shouldn't worry about finishing college because the end would be here before I could finish it. The funny thing was that one of the elders that told me that had a son and a daughter that were both at college. This was back in 1996, since that talk I never went back to the meetings.

"Do what I say, not what I do" witnesses
by JH in.
i remember elders giving talks and giving good advice they didn't even keep themselves.. saying, don't listen to this or that kind of music, and when they get in their cars, that's exactly what's playing on the radio, or when they said to obey the law and then they go faster than the speed limit and say it's ok, i'm just following the other cars.. do you have any other examples of "do what i say, not what i do" witnesses?

I remember the elders telling me not to do things that their sons were guilty off. To be honest so did I. I used to be a ministerial servant and I would give my talks about not doing worldly things and keeping away from worldly friends but right after the meetings I would go out with my friends from college. So I guess I was living a double life.

I stopped attending after a meeting I had with the congregation elders one night. They were trying to tell me how I should live my life and what I should do with my future. It was then that my eyes opened and I said to myself, "What am I doing here following advice from these old men on what to do with my future?" At the time I was attending college and was missing some meetings due to school and work so the elders wanted me to focus on the spiritual things since I was also a ministerial servant. They still want me to go back and counsel me but I have chosen not to speak with them since that last meeting.

I took the "1914 Generation" prophecy seriously. Did you?
by nicolaou ini was born in 1964, a convenient 50 years after 1914. even in my early teens i was doing the sums.
i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!
i figured that i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!

I was a ministerial servant when I started questioning the WT teachings. I was attending college even though all of the elders were telling me not to worry about my education because even before I would finish college the Armageddon would be here. I even remember on one of the CO's visit he asked me if I could become a regular pioneer so that I could go to Bethel, and I told him I couldn't because of college and he looked at me like I was crazy. The last straw was when all of the elders decided to meet with me one night. They were all accusing me of not doing my duties and following worldy goals. I told them that I wanted to have a good job for my future but they kept on saying that the goals I was looking for were not going to mean anything. Well that was the last night I attended a metting, I never went back. I'm not disfellowshipped so I still have some friends inside that I talk too but I haven't stepped back in a Kingdom Hall for a couple of years, and I never regretted my decision.

The CO was visiting my mother's congregation last night and my mother asked me if I wanted to join her. I told her that I didn't want to attend and see all the hypocrisy in the week the CO visits. I remember when I was attending the meetings during the week the CO visits all the elder's were kissing the CO's butt. They were in all of the meetings and some would even take some time off from work to go preaching while the CO visited the congregation. But as soon as the CO left their service was back to normal.
