Oh wow its 7 years instead of 10! But seriously why is it that everything news related to the jws is a big event to all of you here? Were most of you really screwed that bad? I just left and nothing ever happened to me. Its called taking control of your life and moving on.

You mean like V's thorough breakdown of the Revelation book updates before the JWs even had their KMs?
Are you referring to the most recent blood doctrine debacle in the November KM that we have a month ahead of time?
WAC was showing that there was a progressive move toward these recent and ongoing cutbacks in Bethel personnel by referencing articles leading to that end , i.e. "The writing on the wall." I don't think he could have been more clear without spelling it out for you in block letters. Why are you so peevish? If you were half as publicly critical of the things that go on in your congregation...you wouldn't simply be faded.

I'm going to go back and search for 'Big Announcement' threads in the forum there should be at least a few going on today talking about something big that's supposed to be happening in the secretive world of the jws, so it should be fun.

i always thought that my dad was a smart man, that he still had his common sense, but now i see that's not true.

and for some stupid reason, this has really got to me tonight.

i'm sharing the content of this discussion so that maybe someone else can see the ignorance of this horrible religion of people who cannot really love because their evil bible won't let them.

Nutcase? He's the one saying that its no big deal. And that's how most jw's who are in still see it. So the wts used the library in the UN. So what??? Its us who can't seem to stop talking about it, its us who are making a big deal.

He is right nobody is forced to do anything, that was a decision each and everyone of us made when we were part of it. Live with it. Then most of you will start saying 'Oh well, if I didn't comply I would've been labeled as a spiritual weak person.' Once again, So What??? Where's the downside of doing your own thing and not following what others say. They won't talk to you anymore? LOL, if that's it sign me up I don't mind not being talked to if I didn't agree with something and didn't want to do it.

Sorry to hear your issues and problems. But this is how life works it throws us curves every so often. One thing I would recommend is to seek professional help if you are seriously thinking about suicide. An internet forum is not really a great place to seek life changing choices.

Ok I read most of the replies, so which one is it. Did the Watchtower specifically mention the 1975 date or not? Many of you come with an article then somebody else contradicts it. Like I said saying that most elders mentioned it doesn't mean a thing. My uncle elder said a lot of things that the wts did not say.

Oh, and Jim TX don't try and bring that 'houlier than thou attitude'. I can appreciate that you were doing air raid drills long time ago and lived thru it. But those were just drills, I currently have to live everyday of my life running to bunkers because of attacks on our military base and these are not drills, this is the real thing. So please just stop it there. I don't bitch about it because what I'm doing is my decision, and I wouldn't even think of bitching about doing drills if I were you back then.

Obviously you were not in my Hall or my Circuit or my District pre-75 in Ft.Worth, Texas ! EVERYONE I knew of that was a JW including all the O's...PO's, CO's, DO's, that I worked with as a Reg. Pioneer absolutely believed it would be 1975 !

And how is this proof that the wts actually was the one who said this. Where is the written proof? Once again we are going by what someone said or what the PO's said. That's the whole point. That's what current beleivers would tell you, you were following what someone said not wha was written down by the wts. Once again just because someone is up in the front preaching doesn't mean a thing, I was there and I made much of the stuff I said from the platform. It wasn't really what the wts had outlined me to say. So its not really proof.

If anything this is proof that most were following what people said, did the wts encourage it? The wts encouraged the life style of giving everything to further their spirituality according to them, but never was anyone forced or told what to do, the point here is where is the proof that we can take to current beleivers that the actual 'wts' said 'Ok, everybody the end is coming on such date get ready.' Fact is there is no proof besides what some speaker or some elder said or a comment that someone might've passed down. This is basically a religion that will always, no matter what, preach that the end is near no matter how many years pass and how ridiculous it sounds they will always preach that the end is near and that nobody knows the date or hour but Jehovah itself. I just don't care how many people you heard and followed that the end was coming in such year, it can't be proven besides saying that it was said from someone in the platform or some elder.

We were told we were wasting our time trying to make a life in this system. Some of us tried to follow, to the letter, what we were taught. No education, no house, no saving for old age, and in some cases, NO CHILDREN! I remember the words of the speaker who said, at a D.C. at Dodger Stadium "this is NOT the time to be having children". My wife begged me to have a child, but I had second, third and fouth thoughts about it because of this speakers words. If we had done what he said, we wouldn't have the beautiful 20 year old child we have now

I understand what you're saying. But I'm going to go back to my own point and mention that this was not said by the wts, it was mentioned by a speaker who put his own words into it. I know what it is like to be told something like that, my own uncle(who was an elder) told me I wouldn't need to worry about college because i wasn't going to finish it due to the armageddon getting here before I would be able to finish it. But those were his words and nobody else's. I didn't beleive him them because I knew my uncle was a hardcore jw and he would always put spiritual things first, everything else comes second to him.

That is where I'm trying to get at, to understand them you have to know that to the really zealous type of jw, the spiritual things comes first, even before family, jobs or anything at all. I know because I lived it, my uncle was like that my mother still is. To them it doesn't matter if they find themselves without a job tomorrow because they still beleive so much in their system. It is a real challenge to try and reason with them because they will not be convinced at all. I learned this with my mother. Now to me is better just to let her be happy with her beliefs. Which is what I'm doing. My point of view is, why try and change them if they don't want to change? Eventually if they realize and open their eyes and change, then I'll be happy. But if not I'll be just as happy and not try and change them forcefully. Afterall that's what most in the wts religion try to do.

Lady Liberty, thank you very much for your post. That is the same thing I'm trying to say, just not as eloquent as you put it.

Lets say I want to explain to my family that the wts planned all this, well first thing they want me to show is where did the wts print this. Obviously the wts either covered its tracks too good because I can't say for certain that I can come up with a printed copy of the wts saying 'specifically' that the end was coming in 1975 or 1994 or whatever date you want to say.

And saying that some one in the wts said it first is not going to cut it as proof. There's a lot of things said by elders that have no proof and that's the whole point, many people in the kingdom hall come up with some crazy ideas and propagate them as the truth. Example being my own uncle who was an elder telling me that I would never graduate college because the end would come before that, and I was wasting my time. Where did my uncle get that idea? I don't know, because I never read it in any publication. But it was mentioned and I agree that many of the folks who were part of the congregation beleived the same thing.

On the other hand you had other members of the congregation who lived their lives just normal, their kids going to college, trying to get better jobs and so forth. There seemed to be different types of folks in the congregation, those who took everything seriously and did everything they were told. And those who while still attending meetings but at the same thing kept things leveled in their own lives, looking for a way to better their own future by whatever means necessary and not getting caught in ridiculous teachings.

The JWs still blind to the implications of the 1995 generation change

in 1995 the wts as time finally caught up with them, they had to yield to the inevitable and admit that its hitherto interpretation of the so called 1914 last generation was erroneous.

to all intents and purposes the end was indefinitely posrponed it could be centuries away according to the new explanation.

yet the r&f do not seem to realise these implications and are apparently suffering from collective blindness they still believe the end is as near as it was before 1995, just round the corner.

I truly believed what the watchtower taught about the last days and this generation, UNTIL They changted their definition of what a generation is.......back in 1995

I don't see how that pictures proves anything. Ever since there has been a wts or a jw they have always taught the we are in 'The Last Days.' This hasn't changed. If you bring this up to them they would say that to Jehovah what seems like a long time to us is just a day or two for God.

Let it be 1975 or 1914 or 607BC, the bottom line is that the watchtower is going beyond what's written.

Sure its the watchtower and not individuals who are going beyond what's writtten?

Once again I go back to my original point. If I were to explain this to some family members of mine still attending. First thing they would reply back to me would be, "Where did the society say that?" I would go back and say "Well, it wasn't really written or said by the society but it was eluded too, and some over zealous jws went with their own interpretations and came up with specific dates."

As far as your picture, it doesn't prove a thing. Ever since I can remember the wts have been preaching and telling everyone how close we are to the end and it would only be a short period of time, but once again I see no specific dates. The only dates I heard of was when people were taking things and coming up with their own conclusions. Example would be with the generation lasting 70 - 80 years. I was still a member when this happened and I rememberd many were saying that the armageddon would be in 1994 because 1914 + 80 = 1994. But I don't remember reading that in any publication, this was just mentioned by people who were thinking in this manner. Still this proves nothing besides that some people actually went ahead and calculated it and came up with that date.

So how would you explain to someone still in the wts that the society specifically mentioned the specific dates the end was supposed to happen?
