Tina,
I was going to reply much the same way: that what we see with the children on milk cartons is a heightened awareness of something that has been around for the ages--the subjugation of the weaker of the species. But I see it getting better (people at least want to change this). We are screaming collectively to evolve. However, the attitudes of some, (i.e., teenagers who shot up school) are evolutionary throwbacks (not going to debate evolution of humans, I use word here to mean social progression). However, there are much more of us now--when maniacs crop up in the group of over 6 billion of us, and now they have semi auto's instead of bows, arrows, or slings, it makes a HUGE rift in the human family. Also, we live in the age of information--mass media makes these occurances accessible to everyone, so everyone feels it. Which is a good thing, because the majority of us who want change collectively brainstorm and take action to end it.
HOWEVER, at this point, I don't even want to discourage UnclePenn from his work. I chuckle at the thought of two unsuspecting dubs at his door "come on in!" our Uncle Penn says with a welcoming smile. I know he won't do them any harm, they get in out of the sun for a few minutes, and at least, if only for a moment or two, they have to actually THINK, as he questions them. And we all know how dubs hate to think about questions that don't have the nice neat, pat little WT answers. Then, once they start thinking, who knows WHERE they could end up?
hehehehe....

OK, This is what I have to say
by peacepipe ini need to put my two cents in about this even though i'm reading it a couple days after the last post.. when i think of the death of those i care about i usually have no problem picturing them going to heaven forever: some people just to me seem like there is nowhere else they could be.
those who i've been close to that have died that i'm questionable about them actually going to heaven i feel like in some way as long as there are those of us here to remember them they are still kept alive somehow.
when i really think about my own death i have a panic attack.

Penn,
Are you sure you were never a witness? You just sound so much like one sometimes: the way you turn your phrases. Were you ever in close association with any?

Can I just give my two cents on the heightened enlightenment that we see unfolding in civilization? You are seeing pockets (small but rapidly growing) segments of population growing exponentially in enlightenment (read Gary Zukav's "Seat of the Soul" or visit www.zukav.com). With this change comes much upheaval. I see a huge difference in the way we, as humans have grown, not just intellectually but spiritually. Penn gave the example of the 40's morality compared to today's morality. I would not have wanted to live in the 40's for anything. Look at how much our ideals have grown as a species. Look, at the way blacks, or any minorities were viewed back then. Growing up in the south just in the 70's and 80's, I can tell you that MANY of those I knew of from that generation viewed them as subhuman--a notion that any enlightened being totally rejects. The 40's might have been a great world for the christian white male, but look at the lynchings that took place, (not to pick on the bible, Penn--but I sense you attempting to make the argument that if we'd all just turn to the bible, we'd live in a hunky dory world, so, I have to look at what the bible has truly given us), but much of the prejudice took place with the core belief that the black man was the offspring of a cursed grandson of Noah, and therefore deserved it. And not to mention the way women were viewed.
Anyway, Penn, you wrote one very insightful thing (of many): "something tells me that we are not going to change each others views."
True, but I have to say once again, I appreciate your style. You don't give one the impression of "foaming at the mouth", your arguments are usually fairly well thought out, and you ask intelligent questions, I like that! *sigh* if only all fundies could be like you

Peacepipe!
you wrote: "people are only DREAMING that reality and there are only a handful of minds who dare to escape and go to the TRUTH which isn't all that pleasant."
*sigh** everytime you post, I'm heartened. The ancients called this illusion maya, the Hindus had another name for it. But this concept is very ancient; that we are actually living in a "dream" or illusion, however, the reality or truth that we are asleep to is VERY pleasant, but our fear is what holds us back from communing with "god" (the reality). I can't wrap my mind around it all, I'll admit. I have ascertained only this in my path (which has no name, no denomination, no "group"), that the highest thing we can do, is to love one another. Humanists do this as a matter of course, adn out of feeling for the species as a whole, and don't want anyone legislating it, which makes it more solid, but christians and some other monotheistic religionists are mandated to love, which makes it more malleable, if said legislation suddenly mandates that we "hate" and kill someone who's different. But when you love, you are speaking "god's" language.
Now, as for Adam and Eve--it's very interesting to note that there was a very benevolent agricultural goddess whose symbol was a serpent in Cannan. The worshipers of El (who later became Elohim, who later became Yaweh, who later became Jehovah) felt very threatened culturally by this, and so it is surmised that they developed the myth of (woman + agriculture [apple] = unleashing of all evil upon earth). Or so I've read. I'm a student on this earth school. Very few things do I know for a certainty, except that we should be nice to each other.

Saint Satan,
Now there's an idea! "No jw, mormon, muslim, christian, or larouchians (you know) allowed to peddle or push their religions, either from door to door or in any public place..."
I've often wondered about biblegod's need to employ multi-level marketing techniques. At least the old gods and goddesses have a little dignity. They do not feel the need to have their adherants hawk their wares on the street corners, door to door, or on TV infomercials. No offense to followers of biblegod, but it's actually a little embarassing to watch at times.
You KNOW when one of the ancient ones is inviting you to get to know them. "God" is best heard in complete silence....
how's your meditation going?

Oh and, while I'm not Julie, can I butt in and say, I beleive enlightenment is DEFINITELY growing. No, not in every individual--but in pockets, it's growing in leaps and bounds. Many sociologists are calling this another rennaisance. And yes, in the first rennsaisance, you saw GREAT upheaval in human society. But you also saw some of the greatest scientific ideas, art and philosophical growths ever. As a result, unfortunately, the church attempted to stifle free thought, but thankfully to no avail. She came around, as will the church today.
I enjoy your style, Unclepenn. At least you make me think instead of sigh, or chuckle!

Tallyman, you asked: "if some Watchtower Leaders (of whatever rank) were tried and convicted
of harboring/aiding/abetting Pedophiles (the SilentLambs issue)
would you want to see those put in jail?"
Yes, wholeheartedly. One, it is just (not that being jailed for sedition, isn't, but hear me out.) It would be FAR more difficult to wrap themselves in the martyrdom banner with child molestation, than sedition. Simply a matter of public opinion. Anything to do with the harm of children (myself included) and we (Joe and Jane Public) go nuts, and don't want to hear lousy excuses. Even those of the Rank and File (whom the WTS view as merely amaharets--dirt people) would take notice, it would be the straw that broke the camels back for many mothers (and fathers). Now, sedition is so very subjective. I can see the ACLU getting involved, the WTBTS wrapping themselves in the Martyr flag (12 old, decrepid men, going to prison--a basically "harmless" organization--blah blah blah). Not to mention the Rank and File, who has been taught that the government is literally Satan's organization would see this as an attack on their beloved, innocent leaders by Satan and it would positively strengthen their faith. They see NO PROBLEM whatsoever with sedition. They in fact see it as their duty to detract allegiance away from earthly governments. Whereas, shedding light on the pedophile issue would cause a lot of people to see the truth about the trooth.
Your posts are always intriguing, Tallyman.Bridgette

Mox, you wrote: "attach a stamp, and drop the book of in the mail and the postmaster will have it sent to the soldiers on the front."
Now, THAT'S interesting!! Not something they tauted when they were retelling that particular part of their history.
Now, to answer the poll, Tallyman: No.
But not for the reasons you might think. This organization, esp. their leaders are collectively paranoid to the point of psychosis. If they are put in jail, can you imagine? Martyrdom is what they crave. It would whip up a little bit of fervor if only for a moment, and feed it for a little while longer. This religious corporation, like any outmoded corporation is dying, as it does not sell a useful product. Let it go of its own natural causes. It goes the way of the dinosaur. Its people tire of empty rhetoric filled with fear mongering, lovelessness, and oppression. The organization, being solely dependant upon these R & F, who grow weary, will die out, or evolve into something totally unrecognizable from what it is today: something useful to the human race.

Dear Peacepipe,
Thank you! You made my morning! One other item from your post stood out, too:
you wrote: "No one can afford to have any anger in their heart at this point. Love can only start with one to another, in our homes, on our computers and hopefully maybe somehow it will reach to the far ends of the earth and maybe just maybe all will be well. I just don't know"
That is a very wise statement. You are on your journey--it is YOURS, take heart. I agree there is a lot of negativity. People here are just working through their own stuff--try to just dismiss negativity (I KNOW, easier said than done--don't always do it myself).
I agree that there is a growing presence of negativity here on this board. I have started to channel my energies elsewhere. I still have no plans for leaving, this board, there's so many people here I love to read and hear from. But I recognize there are definitely more productive things I can do. I just joined Amnesty International. Anyway, walk your path. It's a wonderful journey.
Love,
Bridgette
