  Talked to a friend of mine...

  over the last week i have been telling a longtime friend of mine from my hometown about what i found.

  we were best friends all growing up and he had some real bad physical abuse probs in his house and so when he graduated he left the truth and has just recently started coming back.

  he?s been studying off and on.

  Of course, at the end he asked, ?So if the JWs don?t have the truth, then what is the answer??

  I didn?t handle that so smoothly. I basically said that I am still looking for that, and admittedly, what keeps many people in the Organization is that the JWs ?seem? to have the answer for everything.

  Call him back and tell him you've found The Truth now, and it is this: There is no way to prove any religion or belief about the supernatural/the universe/God. All of it is based mainly upon faith. Therefore, no set of faith-based beliefs can be thought of to be superior to another. (ie, "There is good in all religions.")

  I'm going to trade cars and remove my towers and antennae so it looks like the apostate sold the house to someone who may be 'sighing and groaning'.

  Oh, ick. I had forgotten about the "sighing" etc. saying. Ewwww.

  What's up with the towers and antennae? Does that make you look less "receptive" to indoctrination? LOL

  Maybe you should just put up a sign on your door: "Attention JWs: Sighing and groaning within."

  i am completely surprised by the amount of posts over the last couple of weeks of people (lurkers) signing up to the board and introducing themselves.

  most still part of the jw cult, but thinking for themselves and wanting real answers.

  i?m still a newbie to the board so i would like to know if this is common.

  Interesting topic for a thread, and coincidental. I wrote a book about emotional recovery after leaving the dubs, and it contains 10 steps. This a.m., I read over this thread and the links in it, and they are strikingly similar to what I wrote about. I guess that gives me confidence that I'm on the right track! I hope to get my book published within the next month. Just finishing up all the technical details, ugh.

  I can see both sides of this issue. I do believe that, although WTS encourages healthy behavior in many ways, some of its teachings do lead dubs to believe there is not much point in maintaining health...after all, The End is coming soon and all their health will be restored...either that or J will heal them if they pray enough. The literature bears this out. You can find quotes that encourage health awareness, and you can find others that indicate prayer will heal them.

  Thank you for starting this thread. I was just thinking about the warping of young minds by WTS propaganda. There are so many teachings and subtle messages that are damaging to children. One that comes to my mind is the constant liking of children (especially girls) to animals..."sows" in particular. I was taught repeatedly that I was, by birth as a female, an undisciplined primate with corporal punishment and strong control as the only way to keep me from constant misbehavior....and of course a budding temptress that would inadvertently "stumble" the brothers if I didn't wear clothes that covered my entire body and were loose-fitting....or if I kept eye contact w/a male JW too long, or if I was too nice to them, etc.

  What are others people recall?
