"Dissociative disorder" is not the same thing as "Dissociative Identity Disorder".
You can Google the definitions of these things but they has nothing to do with cognitive dissonance or typical cultist behavior.
Unless Hassan's using the common/dictionary definition of the word dissociation instead of the clinical definition/diagnostic criteria sense), then I completely disagree with him. And even if he is, that is not the same thing as DID.
Calling cultism medical disorders mucks up the issue. Once we can understand what it really is, we can reduce it, but calling it something else eliminates that possibility.
Cultism is not a disease. It's a lot of things, but it's not a medical condition.

i've, over the years, looked into many religions.

obviously, from those that have seen me post here, i've become an atheist simply because i couldn't find any reason to believe in god.

I went through a similar process too.
It's kind of like the Santa Claus myth. Each culture and generation added something to it. Before you know it, Coca Cola does an ad campaign with Santa wearing the same red in their product. Then Santa's always wearing red, and no one remembers that he wore anything else before.
Humans revise myths all the time as they gain momentum. They become a part of us and we forget how silly it all is.

My coworker inserted some comments into Excel cells. It's really cool. She said all you have to do to read them is click on the carrot.
Today I combinded several spreadsheets into one.
Does that make since?

There are lots of free, safe things that help a sad mood. Have you tried these? Avoid alcohol and depressants, exercise, stop isolating yourself, start a project you enjoy and stick to doing a little bit daily, don't use tobacco, talk therapy, get enough sleep, meditate, eat healthy, laugh.
Fake it 'til ya make it. Do this stuff even if you don't feel like it, and your mood will lighten.

It's always disturbing to me when posters preach a new religion to people here. To me, it just mucks up the healing process, like taking Valium several times a day instead of drinking.
Anyway OP, help your friend. Lend a listening ear. Give him a hand up.

I've said this many times and I'll say it again.There are many ways to accomplish your goal without playing by their rules & validating their self-appointed authority over you. The notion that you need them to perform a mean religious ritual on you for you to feel better is preposterous really (sorry).
- Closure?
-Block people from your email/phone/Facebook. Return mail. Don't answer the door and notify them not to trespass on your property.
-Do a little closure ceremony of your own--bury or burn magazines, write an unsent letter, etc.
-Announce yourself publicly as a non-jw. (Ex: tell coworkers, neighbors, Facebook, etc.)
- Deprogram? Make a list of your fears and beliefs caused by being a jw, then systematically confront them. (I went to a church, went to a bar, befriended a homosexual, swore, celebrated holidays, got an education,etc.)
The biggest step is to FORGIVE and AGREE to ask help to FORGIVE when you can't on your own.
I am sorry but I could not disagree more. As a former behavioral health clinician, I know this to be totally untrue. This 'forgiveness' thing is a religious teaching, not something required for mental health.
Acceptance is needed. Moving on is needed.Those are the only aspects that affect mental health.
Forgiveness is separate from that--forgiveness means you're saying what happened is ok. Not only is that untrue in the case of jw/wts, it's unhealthy to pretend it's true.

Are you sure you have mild depression?
I treated lots of folks in the psych hospital whose illness was greatly worsened after taking St. John's Wort. They probably would never have required hospitalization had they not taken it.
