Gerald Garner (AKA Goldberg) - Dr. Ron Lapin's Lawyer
by OrphanCrow ini have posted this information on another thread, but i think it is important enough to have its own thread.. i have been doing research into the roots of "bloodless medicine" and naturally, the "bloodless surgeon" ron lapin that the jws hail as a hero, has come under my scrutiny.
this post concerns the lawyer gerald garner, who represented ron lapin during the 80s and 90s when lapin was being investigated for dangerous medical practices, and for being too eager to slice open patients by burning them with a cauterizing knife.
garner was received to the new york bar in 1961, and was suspended in new york in 1984 for his role in an adoption proceeding.

Damn.....totally not diggin this....
by brandnew inok, im gonna try makin this as short as i can, cuz im still pissed.. my father is elderly, needs me to drive him to meetings.
it takes 30 minutes to drive there, so i stay for the meeting, i dress in slacks and a nice shirt ..in respect for pops.
going back home , would be pissing in the wind.....i would just have to turn around 20 minutes after getting there.. well elders asked me to the back room, and said im doing a good job taking care of my father, and that it looks like im well on my way to getting reinstated soon....wtf???.

Well to each his own, but I personally couldn't stomach helping someone participate in that dangerous, abusive cult. Worse than buying an alcoholic his 6-pack, in my opinion.
In terms of your reinstatement, they can do whatever they want. So if you want to influence their decision, do visible things that would make you ineligible. Wear a cross or something.

Futility of being right
by JWdaughter inso, on another thread, about pluto, grreat teacher said something that speaks to my feelings about religon.
"i've kinda been sad since pluto has been demoted to dwarf planet.. you talk about 9 planets and all the little kids at school will correct you real quick and tell you that now there are only 8 planets in the solar system!".
nothing in the universe has changed but the opinion of men.

I don't think you come across that way, jw daughter.
On the one hand, you're right, of course. Basic politeness is important.
On the other hand, respecting wackadoodle ideas/beliefs is not a good thing, in my observation. It gives credence and perpetuates the snake oil. Check out this article about the fact that ridicule is effective--very interesting.
Maybe a balance can be struck--respect the person, not the false belief.

My introduction and confession
by elderINewton inwell another big bad elder here just wanting to say sorry.. i'm sorry that so many were treated like crap, and shown that god's love is not to be found around jehovah's witnesses.
i'm sorry that inadvertently i've likely taught many to judge and as such see that racism permeates every corner of the jw world, else why else would someone be of the world, or even inactive.
i'm sorry i sat in on a jc, and voted to df.

Welcome and thank you for your candor.
When I was a little girl, I used to wish my parent would leave the borganization. I understood then it was misogynistic, and that was depressing.

My sister is being harassed by the elders
by opusdei1972 insometime ago i wrote here in this forum about the case of my sister, who decided to stop attending the meetings because she realised that the watchtower society is an evil organization.
this happened more than one year ago.
i am not living in the same country of my sister, so i learn about her case when she calls me or when she write me through whatsapp.

Asking for laws to be enforced is an effective strategy, not only for your sister, but potentially for reducing cult growth.
Good luck to her.

Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act
by Oubliette inin light of anthony morris' latest propaganda piece, i thought it might be informative for members of our community to see what is typically required of mandated reporters.
here is what a credentialed teacher in the state of california must agree to as part of their licensing and credentialing.
(this is a requirement of both initial credentialing as well as renewals).

jws should not need Caesar to make them do the right thing.
Caesar grants a special privilege to ordained ministers--the ability to perform weddings. That implies the minister has responsibilities to ensure the wedding is conducted legally.
With privilege should come responsibility.

How many Atheist organizations or irreligious organizations have been accused of the covering up child abuse?
by jwleaks ini don't know of any but would like some references if anyone does.
of course not all atheists or irreligious people need to belong to an organization.. studies on the demographics of atheism have concluded that self-identified atheists comprise anywhere from 2% to 8% of the world's population, whereas irreligious individuals represent a further 10% to 20%.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/demographics_of_atheism.

Oh it is. Oh crap, The Onion got me.
It is a pretty realistic story, especially when they mentioned the teeth being Satanic.
