Yep - Upside / Down, you have it there - remember being at school during games lessons? All the boys were on the field, (or girls when it was Hockey or Netball) and 2 were chosen by the teacher to make 2 teams - in turn they chose from the remaining kids who they wanted on their team ? Ring a bell with anyone ?

congregational cliques
by chuckyy init was my experience during my 13 yrs as a jw that congregations usually had a social clique.
in other words, there would be a group of people in a congregation that would only associate (and sometimes only go out on field service too) with people within that social clique.
if you were in the clique, fine.

I was told 1975 - which, upon that year drawing to a close, changed to 1976 (and I was young etc - most of you will identify with how I felt, so no need to go there) - and lately I have mentioned this ''1975 Prophesy'' to a JW, and they deny that The Organisation ever predicted this year!!

Women in the congregation
by fairchild inthe fact that women are not allowed to address the congregation directly is something that really bothers me.
is there a bible scripture, indicating that such should be the case?
furthermore, something as simple as passing a mike cannot be done by a woman.

Many Congratulations fairchild - and it's also nice to see that some Congregations are moving with the times (an oversized hat instead of a napkin - that's QUITE a big step).
I agree with Under74, I think the elders (mostly, not all) generally have something to prove.

The Bible Encourages Drinking/Getting Smashed out of your mind
by proplog2 inproverbs 31:6 "give intoxicating liquor, you people, to the one about to perish and wine to those who are bitter of soul.
let one drink and forget one's poverty and let one remember one's own trouble no more.".
does anyone here know how to integrate this idea with the other scriptures on alcohol?.

Oh - one of my favourite vices - but let us not forget Jesus turning water into wine. Now, as I understand it (and I haven't got a Bible at hand, so please feel free to correct me), it wasn't just your common Asti Spumante (7% abv) He was knocking out - it was the Good Stuff, 15% + abv....and was there enough to go round? I should say so - plenty left for Hair of he Dog the following morning!
And am I ALSO correct in thinking that there was better stuff for early in the marriage celebrations - and inferior stuff for later when all the guests were too pissed to know what they were drinking? - Or am I just remembering one of MY parties ....?

Ten Signs you're a fundamentalist christian
by IronGland in10 - you vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.. .
9 - you feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the biblical claim that we were created from dirt.. .
8 - you laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a triune god.. .

another memorial idea...more effective
by AloneinOh inrather than do something to physically disrupt it, why not do it on the sly.
equipment needed: permanent felt tip marker, clear shelf paper from wally world, small pocket sized spray bottle with some rubbing alcohol.. go into the bathroom right before the service starts.
spray a little alcohol into the back of the urinal to give it a quick clean so that the shelf paper sticks better.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses keep records on people?
by inquirer ini have known some people (i dont' know if it's true or not) [and i am the kind of person that doesn't like to cause trouble] who have said that jehovah's witnesses keep tabs/records on people.
all the things they have done like if they got babtized, personal problems/experiences, arguments they may had with people, and just their general conduct as well.
have any people here found out about a "black book" where they keep records on you?

Urgent! Need help - I told my parents.
by filip inwe have just gotten home from sunday-meeting, when my mom ask me if i believe in god and so on.
so i tell her, cause you adviced me to be honest.
and despite all my fears, she took it very calm, and then told my dad whos also taking it calm, and it doesnt seem like theyre hating me now or want to throw me out of the house.. the thing is.

Filip - In a nutshell - whatever you hear is believable, and most things are if delivered correctly - and this is your dilemma. Listen to yourself, not others, YOU don't know what to believe (and that makes you vulnerable). Surely if YOU accept that you can't choose, then you shouldn't (and people that Love you shouldn't expect you to) - leave things - people who care for you ought to respect that.

Be Gentle With Me - Virgin Poster
by TheEdge inchanced upon this website a few days ago, and perhaps spent most of my waking hours (since then) reading, and certainly identifying with, quite a lot of it.
i have also learned a few things i was unaware of - i know this is ''old hat'' to all of you, but i wasn't aware of the un ngo thing.. i was saddened reading many posts - mostly trying to get human compassion (from elders who hold the trump cards - dealt by....?).
i read with interest josephus's post no.313, and goldminer's 1st posting - both drawing attention to how lives have been wasted due to false prohesy - and i thought (after reading how the society is claiming compensation for surviving - or dead!

Sorry for waffling - I hope you understand what I mean, and apologies if this subject has been 'done' before - would appreciate feedback
