yes, in 1988, jws were so happy to learn that carbon dating proved the shroud of turin was a fake from the middle ages ... yes, once again, jehovah's alleged organization was forward moving in its truth ... ahhhh ... but wait!
it turns out, that while the carbon dating was accurate, it was not understood that the 1988 test inadvertantly used a repair patch from the 1300's.
so, yes, the carbon dating would show this date.

i just saw a news article listing organisations that had given to the tsunami victims.
it is interesting:.
"collections include: tenterfield shire council $2,500; rotary club $5,000 (both included in the total figure and tenterfield community tsunami appeal of $16,580.55 going to red cross australia); bowling club $2,080; golf club $250; seventh day adventists $500; st mary's catholic church $4,600; uniting church $750; anglican church $590; salvation army $457; jehovah's witnesses continuing to collect; assemblies of god church $200; lions club $490; drake red cross $3,645.".
i was just curious if anyone had any thoughts on this or perhaps a link to a previous thread.
jesus said the following according to the bible:.
mark 12:18-25 (nwt).
I was taught this means that the resurrected would be unmarriagable (is that a word?) - as onec resurrected their former partners would probably be wed to another. But THAT'S ok, as I also inderstood that they wouldn't feel any sorrow (robot spring to mind?) over this - I think emotion is what makes us human.
I suppose I DON'T understand that as death frees a party from a marriage contract, shouldn't it work both ways? The resurrected has paid for his/her sins by death.
On the PLUS side -can you imagine being married to ONE person for ETERNITY??
i actually went to the meeting this morning (okay, sumeone talked me into going)...........god it was boring.......something about jesus and the kingdom and frigging deuteronomy and hebrews and jeremiah-was-a-bullfrog...........and then they talked about old faithful: mathew 28:19 20 "go therefore and piss everyone off selling btochtower and asleep magazines to all the inhabitents of the earth.
an' look: i am with you every frigging saturday morning till the government bans your sorry asses.
i escaped after the first meeting and met the stares of several good christians wanting to know why i was leaving half way through......i told the asshole elder who followed me outside: " i've got my period!!
hi there i'm new here, my name is fiona i am not yet a jw and have not started to study yet.
i am very interested in doing so but since i am still new to all this i thought i should attend some meetings first.
i am going to my first one today at the kelvin hall in glasgow, i am quite nervous as i do not know what to expect but also excited at the same time since it could be the beginning of a huge change in my life.
Welcome Fiona (Bug) - I can only echo what others have already posted. Please take care, the teachings of the JW are very attractive - I am sure your appearance at the Kingdom Hall this morning may result in an offer (or 2) of a Bible study - don't get involved too quickly, do what YOU want to, at your own pace.
it could be the beginning of a huge change in my life
<sigh>
i never did become a jw but i did associate with them for a few years by attending meetings, going house to house, and all that fun stuff.
anyway, i have so much in my mind that i cannot possibly say in one post.
basically i saw/heard many things during my association with jw that i just didn't agree with or just made me wonder if they were truly teaching the "truth", which i have recently come to the conclusion that there is no truth.
well - there seems to be so much pondering about what the future holds for dubism - armageddon dates prophesied?
been there, failed to fulfill that - don't think another one would be appropriate - laughable yes, but not appropriate.
how about a re-hash of ancient wt literature?
If this was real imagine how weird it would be. You die in 1913/1914 KNOWING the end is THIS year - and resurrected more than a century later - eeeeek.
back to my book.....
2)
Q.I have risen, and am aware I am different from the other brothers - I died sporting a beard (which I had all my life) and now I have been resurrected into a facially-hairless world -HELP.
A. Although Jehovah approved the wearing of beards from Creation - and indeed for a further 6,000 years, the WTBTS deemed this inappropriate during the last days.
