You like Bruce? :D
It's sucks that not many people know about him -- he should be a lot more famous than what he is!

Is it me or has the WTS gotten worse?
by Lady Lee ini've been out of the jws for the last 20 years.
i remember when...the wts prided its self on having khs that were humble, practical and were't a showy displaythe wts was as militant as they are now.the elders weren't as cruel to their ownthe wts wasn't always puttong their hands in the r&f's pocket and demanding money.the conventions actually cared about the needs of the r&f by providing food and not making a bunch of rules about where they could eat and what they could put under the seat.. am i remembering things differently?
has the society gotten worse?

@Lady Lee
Is it me or has the WTS gotten worse?
inquirer -- Yes (more yes than no), but it depends on what "perspective" you are talking about -- If you are an ex-J dub on this board -- then most assuredly yes!!! But if you are like defd or don't participate on the board then -- ... Actually you might think things are better now than before! Look at the reasons why:
Things look grim now because none of those prophecies ever came true!
*The special annointed generation
*no organ transplants
*Joe "Nazi" Rutherford (imagine living under his regime! -- the man who never preached door-to-door),
*1925 -- that house Joe built for all the faithful people in the Hebrew Scriptures -- Enoch, Abraham, Moses... Beth Sarim I think it was called.
*1975 -- Imagine living back then that sold their houses and businesses.
*Preaching with megaphones -- if any of you remember that.
*Charles pyramidologist --
*I was also shocked to learn they were still smoking in the 1970's -- that's an improvement surely!
I also remember a really old person who's was a JW for 50 years tell me they use to have to go through a list of points on why they should be a JW AT EVERY SINGLE STINKING HOUSE they went to when they went and did door to door work. I was shocked when I was told that! They had to do this until the door was slammed shut! That's definetly an improvement!
*No UN involvement!
*Special annointed generation -- not a continuous one!
Surely if you are a J dub now you don't miss these things!
Look at JW's post 1975:
*Regarding the assemblies it might make things easy by not having to serve in the kitchen -- just bring your own lunch now -- simple!
*Stay in one room on the Kingdom Ministry meeting -- another simple!
*I think one obvious thing that has changed is that J dubs are sloppier now in theachings. They don't argue what their points well at the doors,
*No more false dates -- except 2034 -- I think quotes was streching this slightly... Anyway JW's don't talk about this much.
*I don't think they preach much these days
*I guess they've branced out a bit with their preaching -- now they write letters and do cold calling. At least it's something different. It's a step forward.
*Watchtower CD -- It's great for us and for them.
It's difficult to give points that are positive these days. Both eras are bad! People always think the past as the good ol' times! But I would probably would say that back then post-Rutherford til 1975 was the best era... I say that with butterflies in my stomach... With ALL IT'S FAULTS I would choose this era because they were more strict and more inline with their teachings and they had hope the world was going to end soon! THESE PEOPLE HAD HOPE!!! PARADISE SOON! BABYLONG THE GREAT AS FALLEN!! SELL YOUR HOUSES -- Hey it would have been cool if it was all true!
Now they have become a laughing stock on the world community because none of what they said ever came true. And they appear unsettled on this blood issue because they make exceptions for people in Bulgaria.
So no era was good! It was all bad -- None of it was true and we would have found out about it sooner or later and find helpful websites like this one! So really no era was good. It was all bad -- Charles was a psycho -- his teachings were insane! Rutherford ran it like an army barracks, and everyone after him were pretty weak as dishwater! Choose your poison -- it doesn't matter which one -- it's not going to taste very good! -

Catholic church says the bible is wrong
by Satanus inhttp://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13509-1811332,00.html
here are some excerpts:.
the hierarchy of the roman catholic church has published a teaching document instructing the faithful that some parts of the bible are not actually true.

They may as well throw the Bible away then!
Why add to this "unreliable library of books" by ADDING APOCRYPHAL as well? They really are stupid! -

Theocratic Ministry School Instructions for 2006
by TheListener infrom the october 2006 km [i put .... where i left out some text]:
during 2006 the following will be the arrangements for conducting the theocratic ministry school.
source material: new world translation of the holy scriptures (bi12), the watchtower (w), benefit from theocratic ministry school education (be), "all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial" (1990 edition) (si), and reasoning from the scriptures (1989 edition) (rs).

Gopher, you said:
"Serious question -- Does this mean the school overseer won't say whether the student gets a "G", "I" or "W" for their counsel points? Do they still give "G", "I" and "W" marks on the counsel slip to determine whether the student can move on to the next point?"
They revamped the TMS a few years ago so there is no more "negative counsel" given from the platform. They wanted to keep things "positive" feeling that many of the dubs were not in the school because they were nervous enough giving their talks but then to have the counsel was intimidating so they stopped it.
Now they have the "Benefit from Theocratic Education" book which you bring to every meeting and after the meeting when you did your talk you sit down with the School overseer and he privately tells you how you did and if there's anything to work on.
tpInquirer -- I totally forgot about the grading system! Last time I went to the meetings, I forgot about the previous time I went in the early 1990's where they made it more like a school teacher marking a student... It sounded really ridiculous last time when they kept saying "good delivery", "that was a fine presentation" -- when really these people could do with some constructive feedback at times -- there were some people who were quite nervous at the platform at times and some who struggled with proper English pronunciation -- these people would have greatly benefited from a couple of tutor lessons on how to speak to an audience, instead of having this "left wing" approach. It's very dishonest and it does a disservice to the person who is trying to learn -- how will they ever learn if no one tells them?
I recall the other time they use to use the little room where all the juniors or newcomers would go in and give a presentation as well -- then they changed it thought it was too divisive.
I remember a post on here by Scully who said since the 1980's the JW's have gone down hill with teachings -- and it's so true!Really, it's like an army barracks. In my short time with the Mormons (about 5 years ago) I noticed they did similar things like this where they have all the younger people in the room and having a Q & A question on the Bible and the book of Mormon! LOL

From the October 2006 KM [I put .... where I left out some text]:
During 2006 the following will be the arrangements for conducting the Theocratic Ministry School.
SOURCE MATERIAL: New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures (bi12), The Watchtower (w), Benefit From Theocratic Ministry School Education (be), "All Scripture Is Inspired of God and Beneficial" (1990 edition) (si), and Reasoning From the Scriptures (1989 edition) (rs).
The school should begin ON TIME with song, prayer, and remarks of welcome and then proceed as outlined below. After each part, the school overseer will introduce the next part.
SPEECH QUALITY: 5 minutes. The school overseer, the auxiliary counselor, or another qualified elder will discuss a speech quality based on the Ministry School textbook. (In congregations with a limited number of elders, qualified ministerial servants may be used.)
ASSIGNMENT NO.1: 10 minutes. ....It is to be delivered as a ten-minute instruction talk with no oral review.....
HIGHLIGHTS FROM BIBLE READING: 10 minutes. For the first five minutes, a qualified elder or ministerial servant should apply the material to local needs. He may comment on any portion of the assigned Bible reading for the week. This should not be just a summary of the assigned reading. ....He should ensure that five minutes are set aside for audience participation. The audience should be invited to offer brief comments (30 seconds or less) on what they have appreciated in the Bible reading and its benefits. The school overseer will then dismiss the students who are assigned to other classrooms.
ASSIGNMENT NO. 2: 4 minutes or less. This is a reading to be given by a brother. The student should read the assigned material without giving an introduction or a conclusion. ....
ASSIGNMENT NO. 3: 5 minutes. This will be assigned to a sister. Students receiving this assignment will either be assigned a setting or select one from the list appearing on page 82 of the Ministry School textbook. ....
ASSIGNMENT NO. 4: 5 minutes. .... When assigned to a brother, this part should be given as a talk with the Kingdom Hall audience in mind. When a sister is given this part, it should always be presented as outlined for Assignment No. 3. The school overseer may give a brother Assignment No. 4 whenever he sees fit to do so. Please note that themes with asterisks next to them should always be assigned to brothers to develop as talks.
TIMING: No talk should go overtime, nor should the remarks of the counselor. Assignments No. 2 through 4 should be tactfully stopped when the time is up. If the brothers handling the opening talk on a speech quality, Assignment No. 1, or highlights from the Bible reading go overtime, they should be given private counsel. .... Total program: 45 minutes, excluding song and prayer.
COUNSEL: 1 minute. The school overseer will take no more than one minute after Assignments No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 to offer some positive observations on an aspect of the talk that was commendable. His aim is not simply to say "well done" but, rather, to draw attention to specific reasons why that aspect of the presentation was effective. According to the need of each student, additional constructive counsel may be given privately after the meeting or at another time.
AUXILIARY COUNSELOR: The body of elders may select a capable elder, if one is available in addition to the school overseer, to handle the assignment as auxiliary counselor. If there are a number of elders in the congregation, then a different qualified elder may care for this assignment each year. The auxiliary counselor's responsibility will be to give private counsel, if needed, to brothers who present Assignment No. 1 and Bible highlights. It is not necessary that he offer counsel after each of such talks by fellow elders or ministerial servants.
COUNSEL FORM: In textbook.
ORAL REVIEW: 30 minutes. Every two months, the school overseer will conduct an oral review. It will be preceded by the consideration of a speech quality and highlights from the Bible reading as outlined above. ....inquirer -- Do they realize how boring all this crap is? It's too... theocratic! I seriously found it very difficult to read that post! They may as well put robots in there and tell them what to say where and when... Robots of Tara, Doctor Who -- ring a bell? Good analogy?

Does blood freak you out????
by dezpbem in.
i've had this phobia of blood and needles ever since i was given the anti-blood programming.. anyone else have his phobia as well?.
i'm wondering if i'm the only person to have this fear.
-
inquirer
Yes it does! It's yuck!* But what's worse is MEDICAL PROCEDURES!
I was freaking out when I had to watch the medical video on blood by the J Dubs! We had to watch it (last year) for the Kingdom Ministry meeting.
__________
*Might be a contracition because I use to love playing games like Mortal Kombat and Doom (This really doesn't have much blood in my opinion -- it's more "guts" than "blood" and they are alien creatures -- it makes you less conscious than if it was a human.) I would probably still play them again (especially Doom -- much preferred that too Wolfenstein) and enjoy it all the same. :) -
