I had the opportunity to talk to two JW's in service today. They were working a neigborhood that I had a job in. I really tried to get a good discussion going , but they made it hard. They kept telling me that the only wanted a "positive discussion". They just would not take the bait on any topic I wanted to discuss, 1975, 1914, lack of JW charity/soup kitchens, etc. Finally the 50ish sister cut it off and left with the younger sister. I tried walking with them and talking some more, but then they said goodbye and got into their car and left the territory. I am wondering what happened to all the fire that JW's used to have, apparently they only want a positive discussion (one-sided) with an uninformed person. Is this how they do their field service now?

Welcome
PMJjessie1023, I think jessie1914 is better- don't ever forget the original end of the world date that made Pastor Russell a big shot with the Bible Students- now known as Jehovah's Witnesses. Now a witness is just a bystander, they don't actually do anything important or even have the brain to have an original thought . So your ignorance about the Watchtower Society is understandable. I hope you have enough grey matter left that we can rehabilitate you. -

how smart are we as a civilization?
smart enough to control our destiny and avoid the cataclysms that may end life as we know it?

Welcome, betterdaze- glad to see you here. I have never read any article in WT publications about mass extinction events past or future occurances.
Meteor/comet impact, mega volcano, magnetic pole reversal, gamma ray burst from a nearby star imploding ( thought to have happened in N-America within the last 20,000 years), massive solar flare, runaway mutant virus, ice age, global nuclear war- well that's 8 - the virus wouldn't harm Earth just humans.

JW's won't watch it. Jehovah will come to the rescue. However, mass extinction events are bound to happen again, unless God alters the physical laws to protect us. Better plan on not getting any help to be safe.

Isn't resurection just you dying and leaving behind a really confused clone
by mkr32208 inphilosophy is becoming more and more interesting to me.
questions of existence of what makes you, well you!
i've been mulling this over in my mind for a while, and decided to ask your opinions on it!.

Ok so say he cuts out the first step, makes you a new body and resurrects you WITHOUT KILLING YOUR FIRST! Is this 'resurrected' clone YOU? You still exist right there next to it so is it really you? Or just a confused clone?
Society lacks a respected thinker like Aristotle or Plato to answer your questions. Come to think of it , it was the Greeks who started people thinking seriously about life after death.

Who are smarter - men or women?
by fullofdoubtnow ina friend just sent me this:

three women and three men are traveling .

Women might get away with more than men in general. But ,if you take away everything that makes modern life work that was invented by and built by men you would find yourself back in the stone age in short order. I don't think women give men enough credit for building and maintaining the modern world that they so thoroughly enjoy.
However, as long as women have the market cornered on sex and having babies they will never have to worry about society taking care of them.

I visited the Unitarian Universalist Church a few times. I could never see the reason people attended their religious services. My definiton of a religion is one that "has a belief system to explain the unexplainable" . Unitarians aren't even looking or trying to formulate a belief system that will answer man's questions about life and God.
Not that any true system has yet been devised or revealed to Man yet. Unitarianism exists as an altruistic outlet for decent nonreligious people- as such they do no harm to fellow man, but instead help the needy. I can't say that about Jehovah's Witnesses in general.

Concerning Watchtower Cash and Possible Changes
by metatron inif you've ever studied authoritarian regimes, you may understand that since access to honest truth is carefully rationed,.
all sorts of "reasons" for doing things may appear, that take the place of hard fact.
even worse, the leadership may .

I hope they announce a mandatory 10% tithe at the KH- the JW's are so cheap that half the brothers will do an "exit stage right" to avoid the expense.

what a revelation!
by solo inthis is my first post and what a revelation this site has been to me (excuse the pun) if only this had been available when i walked away from the "truth" in 1987, it would have made life a lot more bearable for me.. i was brought up a jw and was baptized at 14 because i thought it was the right thing to do, endured a very strict upbringing combined with the dreadful routines of worship, study and door knocking.
we were deprived of any enjoyment (tv, friends, outings, fun, etc).
education was a bit of a disruption, having moved to where the need was greater our schooling was interrupted so many times we never made any friends.

I'm so glad you are here, Solo. I left in 1988 and am looking forward to more of you life's story.
Shalom,
