by steve2 in.

the JW approach to sexual abuse
by spopeislandstyle ini was molested by a brother in my congregation when i was nine years old.
when i told my mother she went directly to a family friend and respected elder to seek advise.
a couple days later, he and another elder made a visit to our home and questioned me for hours.

Welcome to the board. You will very quickly realize you are not alone, and in fact will come to see there is nothing wrong with YOU, but there is very much wrong with any organization that would allow something like this to happen to a child without the full repercussions being brought to bear on the offfender. The more I hear about this the more I want to do something about it, I just haven't figured out what yet.
I grew up with a pedophile for a father, and was told the entire time by the cong that my mother was the bad person b/c she didn't go to meetings and I should "strive" to be like my father. Makes me sick looking back. The worst part is all the bad things I did to myself acting out my rage against them after I figured things out.
Just remember it's not your fault. Congratulations on finding this website, it helps a lot.

www.cogsci.princeton.edu/cgi-bin/webwnnot faithful to religion or party or cause
www.cogsci.princeton.edu/cgi-bin/webwnI used to think apostates were satan worshippers who decided they wanted as many people to die as they could possible get. Mental image was of a world ove Vincent Price's looking around for innocent witnesses to pounce on....
and then I received the NEW LIGHT!!! Now I see it is simply a term given to someone who has made an educated decision to not contribute to an organization they feel is less than truthful. In this groups case, it seems most have chosen to help others find answers to questions they have been unable to ask before without being judged. And for the most part I have to say everyone seems to give credit where it is due, even if (in rare instances it seems) the Society is right...can't think of any right now...but it looks good written here, doesn't it?
I like the "new understanding" much better than the old one.

just introducing myself
by adri2 ini never did become a jw but i did associate with them for a few years by attending meetings, going house to house, and all that fun stuff.
anyway, i have so much in my mind that i cannot possibly say in one post.
basically i saw/heard many things during my association with jw that i just didn't agree with or just made me wonder if they were truly teaching the "truth", which i have recently come to the conclusion that there is no truth.

Welcome! I assure you no one will ever give you a hard time for asking questions, that is what this site seems to be buit on.
Most people here are ex JW's and are for the most part even more informed than people you would encounter at the hall. Welcome again, see you around!

You sound like me. Most of the time I think it would be nice to just go to sleep and never wake up, would be easier. But then again I remember the few times I have been truly happy, and am determined to get back there. Target is goo dtherapy, tell wehre else is good, music stores where you can listen to the cd's...but that can be expensive, get an IPOD and borrow CD's to copy to it, I have about 4,000 songs so far, always something for any mood I'm in, that helps a lot, too.
The hard part to remember is you were injured, even if it is mental, and it takes time to heal it. Take the time you have been giving to others so much, demand it. If you don't you'll never get better. Even if you just go shopping (ALONE NO KIDS). Also i found that taking my vitamins, extra B12, and St Johns seems to help without the dependence you get when using prozac or the side effects from zoloft.
In the back of your mind you need to know you are OK, you are a gift and obviously people see you as that. And most of all, you are NEVER alone.

What was your favorite thing about service?
by Dustin ini used to love break time.
especially if it was afternoon service, and we stopped at taco bell.
i used to be damn good at eating tacos in the car without spilling anything.

Louisiana winters are pretty nasty, because it's always raining, so when I was a kid I used to really like it when we got invited inside where there was heat, and also when the householder had a christmas tree, since I didn't get to see many of them otherwise.
Later on...didn't like anything about it except the breaks.
