Does anyone have a listen of convention dates for Australia? Don't be concerned fellow friends I'm not considering going back to the vommit;) It's just that I couldn't afford to go to the commedy festival this year, poor student and all that, and thought I could do with a good cheap laugh:) Seriously though, I'd love a list of dates if anyone could provide one. Many thanks, frog

oh tsnumani, you're going through a rough trot right now aren't ya? Anyway it's good for you to go out and have fun. I suggest just diving at opportunities as they come your way at the moment. Even if these friends might have alterior motives, it's a good opportunity for you to get out of the house, and meet other people. Have fun with it, and enjoy yourself frog

XJW's And The Debt Factor
by hillary_step ina common feature many of us suffer from after exiting from the wts is that we are often left submerged in a morass of financial problems.
the 'live for today' attitude induced in us by the wts is certainly no help in building wealth, so few of us leave the wts without some damage happening to us financially.
in my own case it was a business partner who cleared out the business accounts when i was an overseas trip, no doubt justifying his fraud as i was now not attending meetings.

great advice hs:) I've had to fully re-educate myself financially since leaving the org as well. Not that I can blame the org entirely for the live for the day policy. My father was an absolute scrouge and my mother was never given a cent from him, so I never really experienced money until I started working, and it took the novelty of having money a very long time to wear off!Re: saving money on food by buying in bulk, my suggestion, although a very biased one, is to give up eating meat! It's bloody expensive to buy good quality organic meat, and it's not worth buying the horrible low grade stuff. There's plenty of great food you can buy to supplement meat in your diet. Perhaps just buying some fish whenever you can afford it. I find fresh food markets are the way to go for buying fruit & veg. It's pretty normal to pay half supermarket price at markets.
Don't have a credit card anymore, just can't seem to manage them properly. I tend to be able to invest in bigger and better things when I have to save up the cash for it.frog

Any "Miraculous" experience happen to you like the ones said at Conventions
by soundbox_guy ini had to sit through those experiences at the convention, i was wondering, did any of you used to be one of those people on stage giving an experience about how something miraculously happened like getting the exact amount of money you needed to pay your rent on the day it was due?
i always hear the stories, but can anybody actually tell me something like this has happened to them when they were a good little witness?
and if it has, did these sort of "events" stop taking place after you left?

I shudder at the very recollection of these parts on conventions/assemblies eeeek! There were some beauties weren't there, just like Chinese whispers, amazing how a story could get so stretched between re-tellings! The ever so common one about not having enough money for food/rent/petrol etc when you're a good god fearing poineer, and then it miraculously appearing. Instead of sitting on your ar*e and praying about it, why not just get of it and get a god damned proper job to support yourself! The fact that so many non-pioneer dubs were guilted into looking out for their 'fellow man' had a large bit to do with the fact that the pioneers were always so well looked after. I think faith in humanity, and the natural desire to give is a better explanation than a belief that god would provide for you so discriminately when he doesn't provide for those who don't even have the basics of life frog

Hi Mill,
Was great reading your post, thanks for sharing it with us:) I don't know if it's much of a comfort, but most of us here fully relate to where you've come from, and where you're at now. I like you have become completely dissilouised by my previously held ideologies.
When I left the org initially, about 3 years ago, I was full of enthusiasm for life and all the new information that I had at my disposal, and the mental freedom to be able to digest it all. As time has gone on though I have a become far more a realist, and agree with what you said on the 'truth must be known and not just believed[sic]'. This rollacoaster ride is a tough one that's for sure, it doesn't really stop, it just starts to slow down with time. When I first left the org I had to hold on to my ideals and belief in humanity, and the power of life experience to enact change, just to be able to get through it and remain optimistic. So I know what you mean about being grateful at times for this powerful life experience. There are plenty of times though when you just feel like 'why me?!'.
Well, I wish you all the best with your University studies, it's the best thing that you can do for yourself right now, really opens up your eyes and your miind. I'm starting my second semester in a couple of weeks time. I plan to major in Sociology, possibly Social Ecology. What course have you opted for then?
All the best matey, you'll do just fine, you're made of all the right stuff frog

Finally, I found the REAL truth!
by N at H inhello everyone, just wanted to say hello and let you know a bit about my story and tell you how thankful i am that i found this site!.
i was never a baptized jw although in the early 90's i studied for about 3 years and was an un-baptized publisher for about 1 year before my doubts about some of the beliefs and also my inability to overlook the constant hypocracy of the elders did me in.
sadly it was not before i dragged the love of my life into it, and also my sister (they are both baptized although she left after seeing the elders double standards when it came to doling out counsel/punishment to their own families, he is still in) anyway even though i couldn't bring myself to commit to the org because of the crap i saw going on in the 2 different halls i attended i still believed it was the truth...what an idiot!

Hi N@H, what a smart cookey you were for not getting dunked! The horrible guilt after leaving the org is difficult to deal with, if you haven't yet been through the process of disproving all of their false beliefs. That's a really important process to go through, to make sure you don't have any hangover guilt which can suck you back down during times of trouble and stress. The way the org works to manipulate people's minds is unbelievably simple, but incredibly successful. It's a completely closed society that cuts people off for using their own logic and common sense. You've made the right decision, most of us here are absolutely certain of that. Look foward to seeing you around the board! frog

How can a female go out with a bang?
by unbeliever inmy friend told me that she knows of someone who wants to make a grand exit.
it's just a matter of time before she is df'd.
because she is on reproof and well has a vagina she cannot announce her da from the stage.

I remember when I was leaving the org I had all sorts of crazy ideas about how I would like "go out", but they were just fantacies. For me I think it's best to keep those fantacies in your head. Sure you'd have a pretty good story to tell, but why play by their rules, why let them discipline you in the first place when they've got no good grounds to do so! She shouldn't stick around waiting for them to diss her, she'd feel far more empowered to take the reigns back and put in a well thought out DA letter. I guess you guys are just messing anyway frog
